I agree. I can't understand how Barry and Berry could sound the same to anyone. They are completely different! Although the mental image of someone trying to order a Barry smoothie is hilarious. Poor Barry.

Aaron, pronouncing the Aa as in "action", ron prounced as run. It's my eldest nephew's name and the family all pronounced that way, tho I have heard people say Airrin, but then I have people call my daughter Tara "Teirra" too.

Aaron = Aa-ron - with the "A"s pronounced as in "black", and drawn out slightly.

Erin - Eh-rihn - with the "E"s pronounced as in "best". My daughter's name is Erin, spelled Eryn.

A lot of people around here pronounce them the same though - there's an Aaron in DD's grade, and sometimes she gets confused whether she's hearing her name called, or his.

Don't worry -- I pronounce most of them the exact same way...I had to ask my DD how she pronounced Barry/Berry because they are pronounced the same way to me.

The only one I pronounce differently on this thread is Dawn/Don and the pin/pen

But otherwise -- pretty much Harry/Hairy/Berry/Merry/Barry/very all rhyme to me...this is fascinating to me but adds a whole other dimension to the "look what crazy name someone named their child" -- maybe in their heads it wasn't so crazy because they pronounce it differently than what some people are thinking.

Apparently I do! LOL!!!! Mary & Merry are pronounced the same too.

As I said them out loud and yep...Very & Vary come out sounding the same.

All I kept coming up with pronouncing it other ways sounds British to me.

What do I know...I'll blame it on my parents (one from southern part of IL and one Chicagoland). Apparently everyone around here understands me and at least in small town, MA people assumed we were from around there during a college visit and gave us a completely shocked look when they would find out we were from Chicagoland area.

Aaron = Air-un
Erin = Air-in

Aaron is a boys' name. Erin is a girls' name.

I think it depends on where you are from. I am from the south, they are all pretty much pronounced the same. I have many friends from up north and I know that they would pronounce them differently, I can hear it in my head. So I guess what I am saying is if I heard a distinct difference in the two. Barry/berry and Aaron/Erin. I just think the person has a northern accent and nothing else. Around here Aaron/Erin are pronounced the same. We have a very good friend named Barry, and he pronounces it sounding like Berry, he is VERY southern. Southern gentleman accent. Again, I think that is the difference. Like like people formEngland say pasta differently from us, us should like the "a" in the word cat.

Aaron = male. Erin = female, both pronounced air-in.

I've only ever heard them pronounced the same. I've had lots of Aaron's/Erin's in my life and they've all pronounced them the same.

As some of the others have said, more like Err-in. And if you can't say it right, don't say it all. They are different names. As I've stated, it's for this reason, I've always really disliked my name. Glad it amuses you, though----must not take much.

Err and Air are pronounced the same around here. So me calling you Err-in vs Air-in sounds the exact same..

This is how I pronounce them, too. Although maybe a few less A's in Aaron.
