Aaron vs. Erin pronunciation

Barry and Berry are pronounced differently here.

BAHrry - as in batch BEHrry - as in bench.

Marry - Mary - Merry are different as well.

MAHrry - as in match MAREy - like a female horse MEHrry - like the word Mental.

Same for Harry and Hairy.

HAHrry - rhymes with Barry and HAREy - rhymes with Mary

The Hendersons' Harry was hairy. Hairy Harry. Not hairy hairy, or Harry Harry.

If Marisa Berenson's sister had married the former mayor of Washington DC, she'd have been Berry Barry - not Berry Berry, and certainly not Barry Barry.

You don't wish someone a Marry Christmas, and a bride and groom don't merry. Well, maybe they do, but not during the ceremony in front of family and friends. Well, maybe they do...

ETA: Listen to the 2nd Australian pronunciation of Harry. The way she says HAH. That is how people from this area (Long Island and probably most of the Northeast pronounce it. Marry and Barry rhymes with Harry as well.

Because the combinations of consonants and vowels don't make the same sounds . I'm from central NJ but don't have a Jersey accent nor does anyone I know. No one who grew up in this area has any type of accent.

Not particularly the same. Here's how I do it:

Aaron -- The double "a" is like the a in cat, hat, fat, or bat. The "ron" part is like run, but kind of swallowed, with one of those upside-down e things (I believe it's called a schwa or something like that.)

Erin -- The "e" is like the e in pet or the ea in feather (which I pronounce the same), and the "i" is an ultra-short i, even shorter
than the i in minute.

Native Texan here, so your mileage may vary.

Erin is a girl's name, and Aaron is a boy's name. I could see a boy named Erin, but I could also see him catching some flack for it in school.

ITA... native Bostonian here! Aaron, for a boy, and Erin, for a girl. Names have completely different etiologies. Aaron is a Hebrew masculine name meaning "mountain." Erin is a Gaelic name meaning "from Ireland," and interestingly, although I have only ever heard it used as a girl's name, it is gender non-specific... it can be used for either a girl or a boy. (LOTS of references, just do a search, I'm not gonna list them all here.)

This thread is crazy . All those words/names sound the same to me, I even had DH, who is from FL read them out loud and he pronounces them the same as I do...lol

yup here too. Where I'm at in Central Texas these all basically sound the same. I've been sitting here for a while now trying to pronounce some of these the way people say they are supposed to be pronounced and I can't make it happen.
Now there is a difference when I say pin/pen. But the other words? the same.
