As a parent of two grown sons, I understand how difficult cold wet weather can be and how frustrating it is for kids to have to stay indoors. I would trade those days for what I have been going through tonight.

We have a HUNTING dog. A big, strong, muscular Irish setter who hates to get wet. He will bark to go out, stick his nose out the door then dive back in before you can give him a nudge to give it a try. I have been getting up and down for the whole evening and he finally went out to do his business. Good, so I thought. He runs back in and rolls around on the carpet to get his fur dry  cause he hates to be wet. He then starts his rough housing he tends to do a lot of in the evenings when he hasn't had enough time in the yard and on walks. He refuses to go for a walk in the rain and as mentioned above, isn't too keen on going out. I have been tossing his stuffed bird back and forth throughout the house all night and he has been running and chasing. Well, I just turned around and he has torn up a piece of foam into shreds that was on the cedar chest. My fault, I know but come on, give it a rest already. Oh yeah, when he came in he had muddy paws that I didn't see and I also have muddy foot prints all over the livingroom rug.

I have tried to tire him out for hours but he is full of energy. I can't fault my family as they have tried to get him out for a walk, even with his coat on and DH carrying an umbrella he won't go. I even made popcorn and shared it with him to coax him to mellow down. AUGHHHHH.

Please take me back to legos and hot wheels scattered on the floor. I am so tired of this dog right now and winter is just beginning. He also dragged his bed all over and is asleep with just the back half of him on the bed.

LOL, I understand your frustration.

But, I have to say...my ILs had an Irish Setter named Tory and every single time I see your siggie picture, it makes me smile. It brings back fond memories of what an awesome, sweet, intelligent, wonderful dog she was. She did the same stuff your dog does and caused TONS of frustrating nights just like you are going through. My FIL went into a deep depression when she passed away. You know, as much as a pain as she could be...she was always running away and coming back filthy from head to toe and you are right about the energy, it's unbelieveable the energy...but man, she had such a remarkable personality.

I miss her.

I hope tommorow is better....and thanks for having a siggie that touches my heart

Awww, now I feel bad for complaining. :confused3

I am luck he doesn't run off. He is pretty well trained but just such a bundle of...motion. He also hates to be clean, brushed, combed, bathed. He is such a BOY. I had my son hold him still so I could run a brush over him and he just trembles. You'd think I was gonna do a rectal temp or something on him. :rotfl:

Tomorrow morning he will climb on the bed with me after DH goes to work and nudge me till I rub his chest and then curl up with me to sleep...till the cat jumps on the bed then he will be off and running again. He is an angel most of the time and you are so right about the intelligence. Don't forget the stubborness. Best of all are the puppy kisses he gives me on the cheek. He is asleep right now so I can be nice. ;)

LOL, don't feel bad for complaining...our furbabies can drive us NUTS sometimes.

I dread putting my Christmas tree up because I know what all of my cats have planned....
