Can someone give me some details about AAA or point me to a source of info? Any idea of approximate cost for the membership? How long do you have to have AAA before you can get their discount? Are they easy to work with? How long do you have to keep the membership?

Hmm...how many more Qs to get to 20 Qs? :rotfl:

Let's see if I can get any of this right. If you just want the AAA card for the discount you or your spouse can get a year membership for like $50. You don't have to renew it if you don't want to. I got one for my wife and we use it for the discounts, plus it is just good to have in case of an emergency. Mousesavers com has a listing of the discounts you can expect. I don't remember if you need the card when you make your reservations, my wife does this and she is sound asleep. I would think you can get your card pretty quick or maybe they can give you the number when you sign up.

Member First Year Dues
Primary Member $47.00

membership fee varies by state I know mine in Ohio is 49.00 for primary membership. I was asked number when I booked ressie with disney. and had to show card at check in but I had a new CM and I'm sure that played into matter.

We have had a AAA card for years. It is no hassle whatsoever. It has come in handy with getting flat tires changed when DH is out of town and also towing when we had some major car issues. As far as Disney I have been able to get a discount every trip. There was one time I was asked for the card number in advance when I made the reservation. While the savings are not huge (10-20%) every little bit helps.

You are supposed to give your AAA number and exp. date at time of booking and show it at check in. Sounds like that new CM was doing his/her job properly.:thumbsup2

Keep in mind that booking through AAA, or any TA, means AAA/TA own the res. Any changes, etc, will need to be through who you booked.
For some that is not an issue. For some it is.
We occasionally read where someone is frustrated because they went to make changes and their AAA/TA is not available due to weekend or holiday or whatever. Whereas had they booked with Disney they could make the change almost any time, 7 days a week.
You would be able to make your own ADRs if you wished. And that is about it once you book with AAA/TA.

I didn't have issue with it, When I booked room it just threw me that they wanted number as I didn't have card right by me and at check in I had card it just took min for me to get it out as it was buried in carry on. I agree Cm's were doing job it was just a shock to actually have someone doing it right that I wasn't prepared.

If you want a room only reservation with a AAA discount you can do it yourself by calling Disney, you do not need to go through AAA. You only need to use a AAA travel agent if you want a package with a AAA discount on the room. Since I find no savings in getting a basic Disney package, I always book the room myself with the AAA discount and get the tickets from an online broker.
As far as needing the card when checking in, although they say you need it, I have never been asked to show the card when checking in at ANY hotel anywhere in the country when using a AAA discount. I get the discount almost every vacation we go, no matter where it is. I always have the card with me, but have never been asked to show it.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I need something clarified...

If you want to use AAA for room only discount you can book thru Disney. If you want a package, you need to book thru AAA. So - if you book your room thru AAA, are you able to get the DDP?

AAA can book any plan that is available, so if you want a package that includes the dining plan, they can book this for you.

Correct that a AAA discount room only res can be booked directly through Disney.
If you want a WDTC AAA package, then you have to go through AAA. (And the packages include dining.)
Best bet is for you to call AAA and see what they can do for you. I have not booked through AAA, but my understanding is you will not be able to stack discounts.

You cannot get the AAA discount with free dine. Its one or the other. And even through AAA there has to be at least a one day ticket on there to add the DDP, they cant do a RO with dining.

Just wanted to clarify that Dreams Unlimited Travel can also book AAA room only discounts. I just booked thru DU and they were able to have a AAA rate applied to my room. (As you can see by my tag, I love DU! As much of a control freak as I am, I will never go back to booking Disney trips on my own!)

How many rooms can you book with a AAA discount? We need two for our family. Thanks!

We booked 3 rooms with our AAA discount. There are 7 in our party
