AAA - Trip Insurance ?

It is for trip interruption or cancellation due to illness of your traveling party within the 45 day cancellation period. If your flight is cancelled, luggage lost, that kind of thing. I always drive, so I decline the insurance. But, if you fly you might want to buy. Try insuremytrip.com for price comparison.

Definitely price shop. We were quoted $120 through Disney and AAA. (Same insurance, AAA was just using Disney insurance) Find out what it covers etc. I was told that Disney insurance would only cover what we booked through Disney and AAA insurance would only cover what we booked through AAA. No airfare coverage if we didn't book through either of them.

Right now we have a AAA room only res through Disney and are waiting for codes like everyone else. We purchased travel insurance through travelex for under $100. This will cover our entire trip. So if there is a medical emergency, family emergency, the flight is delayed, our baggage is lost, etc. we are covered. I was even told that we were covered up to $300 if our stroller was stolen in Disney. Not sure how true that is.

If you sign up within 14 days of making your trip reservations preexisting medical issues are covered. We don't have any so it didn't matter. But say someone is ill and becomes moreso during the trip..you are covered if you need to come home early.

Best of luck!

How long does it take you to drive or are you planning on if you don't mind my asking?

We are in MA and have two toddlers so we'd do it at night..but I keep thinking that it might be easier..what with having the car, the cost, and we'd like to visit NC too.

Thanks,
Ruth

Ruth,

We have driven 2 times (2002 & 2003). It takes us approx 17/18 hours  to get to Disney from NYC. We do not stop however...we let the kids out for potty breaks & food but we drive straight through. Coming home takes almost 20 hours. (I guess we are no hurry to get back home! :rotfl2:)

I actually wanted to drive those times because 2 of my kids (who are just over a year apart) were both in diapers & 1 was still on formula. It was easier to pack EVERYTHING (packs of diapers, packs of wipes, formula - he needed special formula due to medical reasons & I was afraid of not being able to find it in FL.) I also brought crib sheets & bedding so basically I brought everything but the kitchen sink & driving worked best for that.

Any other questions, feel free to post or PM me! :teeth:

:confused3 make sure you get all the facts on the insurance--

we had to cancel our trip to Vegas last year--the AAA told us there were no hassles if we need to cancel even the day of departure--

when we did have to cancel Iwe were never told that you need a drs visit and hes the one to say you shold cancel (theres are form for the dr)

we found all this out when the claim was rejected!! :confused3

it was only after going through the manger of AAA he then went through the isnsurance did we get the money back

its not as easy as they make it sound :confused3

Driving doesn't necessarily negate the need for travel insurance. If you booked a package and had to cancel within the penalty period, it wouldn't matter whether you drove or flew...you'd still be out the money you paid for the package. Insurance covers the prepaid portion of your trip that you would lose if you had to cancel at the last minute. It also covers travel delay/trip interruption, baggage delay/loss, medical coverage, etc. I buy travel insurance for cruises, but not for my solo WDW trips because I don't pay for much up front - other than airfare.

Just our personal experience. Christmas 2002 we went for what was supposed to be 10 days. On the night of day 8 both my DS's begin violently vomiting and have to be take to Celebration Hospital. While there I collapse at the addmissions desk. All three of us were there for about 24hours getting fluids for dehydration. Meanhile poor DH, had to care for all of us. The night before we were to check out we get back to the room and is hasn't been cleaned. YUCK!!! ASMov can't move us because it is full. AHHH!!! So they do a quick, not through cleaning leaving the odor and we try to sleep. The next morning DS's and I are in no shape to drive. So we extend the trip 2 days. DH spends the days taking care of us and bringing us food we can eat. The night before our new check out DH wakes up vomiting. Yes here we go again... Extend the trip again 1 ore day and take care of him. Now on the morning we actually checked out, 3 ays after original check out the family is feeling bummed. So DH says lets move to CBR and get back our days. We stay 3 ore beautiful days and drive back. When Icontacted AAA and the insurance company about the whole situation they covered everything I had a recipt for, including all food, hotel, medical bills and even the days we added on to the end. This is why we when we do a package we always get the insurance. The bills I got were crazy and we could have taken an entire second trip for what it all cost. But everything was covered. I figure what I have spent over the years in insurance was more then covered by what we cost them that one trip. princess:
