AAA Stinks

I like to have control over my trips, I made the mistake of booking with a TA(Not CAA - a Canadian chain) last year before free dining came out and they never applied to me, and I questioned it they said I missed it because I booked to early (Now that I know with Disney you can call and apply codes after I will never book a TA again) I didn't know better then

That being said I did hear that CAA (I'm Canadian) gave good discounts, I called the CAA three months ago and they still have not called me back, so I from that alone I know there customer service (or lack thereof) is not something I could deal with..

I just figure, I'll cut the middle man out.. But thats just me

Why didn't you just call AAA the next morning to change your dates? Any code CRO gives you AAA can book for you, too.

While what you said may be true.. please note this line from the original poster..

CM gave me a good deal for new trip a few weeks after, and said I couldn't get this rate with AAA.

Faced with potentially losing her great deal. She booked it. We've all seen the threads on here where a few days before a code expires, a guest is unable to get AAA to apply the code in time.

This could very well have been a situation like that. Or it may just have been a slightly overzealous CM who wanted to score a booking. Regardless, she was told that the AAA cancellation policies were the same as Disney and clearly they were not. She was mis-informed by a representative of AAA.

Perhaps, all those things are true, but this is what can happen when someone gets so anxious to make a change without sitting down and waiting for the next business day. Certainly waiting no more than 12 hours to POSTPONE (and not move up) a vacation is completely reasonable, and could have saved a lot of grief and disagreement and/or misunderstanding. On the one hand, she says she couldn't go on the original dates for work. In the next sentence she says she got a code and called at night. It would be an amazing coincidence if those two events happened on the same day, too late to call AAA but early enough that CRO was open. It sounds to me like she found a code she liked (which is ok) and couldn't wait until morning to call her AAA agent (impulsive) and change dates or book with the code.

The fact is, any code through CRO is available through AAA. Both she and the agent booking may have had a miscommunication about the cancellation policy, but the CM flat out lied that she couldn't get the code elsewhere. If nothing else, her confirmation paperwork from AAA would spell out the cancellation penalties, if there were any. And, like it or not, we are all responsible for reading what we sign and/or agree to. She should certainly be persistent if they want to charge her the cancellation fee and produce her confirmation that lists no cancellation fees.

Sometimes the immediacy of the information available to us via internet can do us a real disservice. We have 24/7 access to so much information, and we are fooled into thinking that unless we somehow secure this great deal NOW (whenever NOW is) we will lose out forever. That mentality is certainly pervasive on these boards, though I am only guessing in this instance...

YMMV

I think it's fair to say ... as with any booking method ... the quality of your travel agents / coordinator may vary wildly and that quality may affect your experience in using that particular method of booking.

You may be right about your points on impulsiveness. It's hard for us to know one way or the other from our view of the situation.

At a minimum.. the OP was given bad information from two different sources. It's unfortunate. But as Mike Brady said... "Caveot Emptor!" :)

:woohoo:

Well, apparently my husband's hell raising worked! I got a call this moring from AAA telling us that they were able to apply the ZHE discount to our reservation - yeah!!

Thanks for all the support, and sorry to hear others have been on the same boat... at the same time I will probably not be using AAA for future travel plans in the future, after all this grief.
