I just got off the phone with a AAA TA about booking me a package, and was told that AAA now charges a $15 service fee. I questioned whether this was AAA wide and she said it was because Disney had cut their commissions. Anyone heard of this?
Never even heard of a fee from AAA, that's what the yearly membership is supposed to be for. The paper work is for our trip next year. Maybe you should call the toll free # or send AAA an email inquiring about the fee and when it started being charged.
I questioned the charge, saying that I assumed my membership fee covered travel agents.
I was told that it was a service I was paying for, like a repairman fixing my dryer. Huh? I told her that while the service person wasn't getting any benefit from fixing my dryer, the AAA TA WAS getting a benefit in a commission from Disney. I don't like the idea of paying for bringing someone business.
Oh well. Since I did in fact save $100 on my package through AAA, I'm not too upset about the $$$. It's the principal of the thing!
Our AAA agent says that now they charge $15 per ticket to book airline tickets.
I told her I could book my own bleepin' airline tix, thanks.
I liked booking our package through AAA because I was able to look at the different package prices easily -- the WDW website is way too glitzy for my 5-year-old computer. Half the time, I can't even get into the resort information, let alone try to book anything; even looking up the park hours is an exercise in patience since it takes so long to load the fancy pic at the top of each page.
So at this point, I don't mind going up to AAA. I do think, though, that it's a shame that they're starting to charge fees in addition to the annual membership fee, which as you know isn't exactly chump change.
