AAA membership

I have always understood that you only get AAA parking if you book your trip as a package through AAA. You are then issued a special parking permit for that trip only. If you don't book a package through AAA, you don't get to park in the AAA spaces.

It seems to depend on the office. Our local AAA office only gives out diamond parking passes if you purchase a package through them. That said, people in other parts of the country have reported that their local office will give them out just as a perk of membership.

I think IMHO has spoken and answered the question. Since AAA only works one way then others will never need it.

In another thread I just outlined how I got $96 worth of discounts at the Fort in 2011 by applying the AAA discount. For my membership which is $65 or $70/year (can't remember) it covers itself clearly. Plus the roadside assistance and towing around town (free for short pulls) that we've used an average of once a year. So it continues to be worth it for me.

You're name is not IMHO so your post is meaningless. Glad you find it helpful Ed. I do as well. Just saved me about $10 for a stay at Crystal Isles in Crystal River, FL. Not much but it was only a 2 night stay.

Each time I save a few bucks here and there it adds up and pays for itself. Throw in a jump start or tire change and you got your money back.

We joined AAA at the cheapest level just for Disney. I don't remember the exact savings on our site cost, but I do know it was a greater savings than with an AP. It more than paid for itself not including the small savings on the tickets. (Which was enough to pay for one of our lunches in a theme park). It was nice having the tickets in hand when we got there without having to waste WDW time standing in a ticket line.

We've done this for the last few years and have felt it was well worth doing.

It's nice to know that we've got a little roadside service available on our other smaller trips during the year as well.

Of course, we were also going to try to hit Universal for a couple of days and we would save a little there as well.

If you are going to Universal, you can get 10% off at most restaurants and gift shops. We use our AAA card there on every trip and the savings there can really add up.

For roadside, we switched to Good Sam, but I kept my basic AAA as a single because usually my 2 week December trip to the Fort saves me my membership fee. Historically over the past 5 years, the AAA discount on a partial in pre-holiday has been better than even Passholder rate.

(I switched because Good Sam had better rates for the 4 cars and my camper than AAA+ RV) Good Sam also is guaranteed to have RV service in every state, where AAA+ RV "service" is not available in every state. I didn't want to get stuck in a state where AAA is not available to tow my camper.

I book the December trip far enough in advance that I have always gotten the AAA rate for that trip.

I agree. I just took out a basic AAA for me and I saved about an extra $50.00 (even after paying my dues) on my upcoming trip. The AAA discount was better than my AP discount. I will still keep my Good Sam ERS though, its coverage is better & cheaper than AAA Plus that includes RV's.

You can always call Disney Reservations & find what the AAA discount is, then do the math.

Well, I look at it the same way as I look at an annual pass. The annual pass gets me in the parks at a good price for a year. Any discounts or perks are just icing on the cake. I have AAA for the road service, because my car insurance doesn't include road service. Any perks or discounts are icing on the cake.

If I weren't using AAA for the road service, I wouldn't have it. Yes, it has saved me money on some Disney trips, but they could take that perk away tomorrow if they want to. It would be just my luck to buy in for a Disney discount, and they would do away with Disney discounts at that very minute!

We have AAA and wouldn't be without it. I like that it covers you..not the vehicle. Meaning if you're in someone else's car..and it breaks down, they come. I've had my daughter be in a friends car dead of winter at 1 am in the morning and the battery was dead. (okay, at first I thought it was a story..)..but no they really couldn't get the car started. She was at least 60 mintues from home. By calling AAA they were able to get to her faster than we would have been. (best part was I didn't have to wake my husband to go and help her out). AAA was to her in 30 minutes.
I've also used them twice when my keys were locked in the car. (don't even ask)There's a local AAA shop, and they were to my house in less than 10 minutes and the second time I was in the bank parking lot. Same thing..really quick.
I've used them while camping with the kids..when my husband wasn't there, and the battery on my truck died.
I wouldn't be without AAA.
Now, if I get discounts..that's gravy. Which they did used to offer a discount at the Disney marinas when you rent the mouse sprites and pontoon boats. While there wasn't a sign indicating so..when asked, they did offer a small discount. I'm not sure if they still offer this, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
