AAA discount vs dining plan

We would be able to save $100 on a 6night-stay at a moderate resort with our AAA discount. However I just found out that we won't be able to purchase the dining plan (for 2 adults and one 2yr old) which we originally wanted. Which is more worth it? Should I just not bother with the AAA discount? We are planning on eating out in a sit-down restaurant once everyday, so thought the dining plan would be a great deal since it includes tax and gratuity.

Thanks!

I don't understand why you wouldn't be able to get the dining plan. My AAA rep was trying to get it for me any way she could. It wasn't possible only because we are using a ticket for my DD from last year and everyone in the room has to be on the same plan. They wouldn't let us add it. Otherwise, you should be able to. If you have to check with a different rep. I have already given one person my reps name, I will be happy to do it again if you think it will help.

Why can't you purchase the dining plan and still get your AAA discount? We were able to do this when we booked our package through AAA. Perhaps you won't get a discount on the dining plan portion (I'm really not sure how they applied the discount since we purchased a whole package.) However, I know that the final cost was about 300. less than the exact same package would have been through Disney directly without applying a AAA discount.

I would think you could still get the dining plan, but it wouldn't be for free. I think you can only use one discount? When I called AAA, it was the same price as DIsney direct..

Dining plan is $38 ?? per adult per night, not sure how much children are. But if it is only one discount or another I would rather book dining package and spend $100 upfront, and have the dining plan for your vacation..

Its me again, I just reread the thread...

You said it was $100 more to book without the AAA discount right?

The dining plan works out for: $38pp/per night x 2 people=$76 per day $76x6 nights=$456 savings.

Looks like quite a savings!

I called Disney yesterday to book the reservation and was told that I can't get the Dining plan with AAA discount because the resort was already discounted. Maybe I should call through AAA travelling agent? Unfortunately AAA are closed for the weekend. Babba73, would you mind sharing your rep's info? I wonder if Disney has limited rooms with discounts and maybe they are all gone? I am booking for early June which is kind of late.

Thanks!

No, we are willing to pay for the dining plan since it won't be free for the dates we are going. However Disney told us we can't get it because our resort is at a discounted price.

Then you need to sit down and crunch some numbers. If you prefer CS meals and like to be as thrifty as possible, the DDP may not save you much. If you like a TS or character meal each day, then it's more likely to be worth it. I know that for DD and I, the DDP comes out to roughly what we'd spend on food, but allows us to eat at places we ordinarily would not be able to afford easily, which is a benefit in my eyes. :)

Try checking out allearsnet.com for restaurant menus and prices. Check out where you think you're likely to eat if you don't have the DDP. Add on tax and tip (both covered by the DDP) and compare that to the cost of the DDP and the $100 you'd lose in room discounts.

We travelled last month and stayed at BWI with a AAA discount and got the dining plan. You have to book through AAA and not disney to do this. Just book with AAA and cancel with Disney. You can call any AAA rep to do this - I used the 800 number found on AAA.com.

You can book a AAA discounted room with Disney. However, you can't call Disney to book a AAA discounted room with dining. In order to get both the dining plan and the room discount, you have to call AAA.

Yep, we get a great AAA discount and the dining plan, but we go through a AAA TA. We love the dining plan, and AAA saves us at least $200.
