AAA Can you use it anytime?

I am wondering if it is worth purchasing a AAA membership to apply to our vacation.

Are there time restrictions that you can use a AAA discount or can it be used anytime?

Should I call first and ask if I can use it during that time?

Will it be worth purchasing one specifically to use?
Does it usually make a good savings for those that use it?

The last two times I have made an AAA reservation (one 2006, one 2007) I have had to give them my AAA membership number at booking AND show the card at check in.

AAA releases all of their discounted inventory at the same time for the next year, so if you are going during a busy time, the discounted rooms may be booked. If you are going during regular or value season, you have a better chance. If you have any friends or family with AAA they can check availablility online to give you an idea of whether your dates will be discounted. Just remember, AAA will also show non discounted availability, so look for the odd rates (dollars and cents) - those will be the discounted ones.

I have AAA because I have a long commute to work and want the roadside protection. However, I usually manage to save enough on one Disney trip per year to cover the cost of membership (and then some).

You do need to be a member, but as to availability, if all the rooms at the discounted rate are gone then there is no availability if they are not all gone there is, simple as that. You could call Disney and ask what they have for when you want to go at a AAA room rate. You cannot however book a PACKAGE through Disney directly only through AAA but you can book room only.

Where would I check availabilty online? I already have a room booked for Jan 1st - Jan 5th. I wanted to see if I could apply AAA/ CAA discount to it
