Is it worth the $69 to buy a AAA membership to get a discount at a value resort? Or would the discount mean staying at a moderate resort for closer to a value resort price?

Do you have to have the card in hand when checking in or can a friend who already has AAA book the stuff for us (he would not be travelling with us)?

Also, should I go ahead and book a room only to secure us a spot and then do tickets and dining later? (We are going 10/23-10/30)

During that time frame, the values are in regular season. The standard room rate is aaa discount 99. The aaa discount (if there is availability) is 15%.

Rack rate/night with tax = 112
AAA / night with tax = 95
Savings/night = $17

Savings for 7 nights would be about 117. So yes you would save even after purchasing a membership. You would then be able to qualify for aaa extras if you book through them. Some of these are only if you book a package - AAA storytime with a character, Diamond parking, Diamond discount card (something like 10% off at some dtd shops), discounts on tours, etc. Not to mentin that for the extra savings (about$50 after the cost of membership is taken out) on your trip you will also have the extra benefit of having aaa for a year. If a better deal comes through it can be applied instead of your aaa discount.

I'm not quite sure what you were asking comparing mods to values but I'll show you 7 day pricing with standard rooms.

value aaa rate - 663
value rack rate - 780
Mod aaa rate - 1105
Mod rack rate - 1300

again though aaa discounted rooms are limited so no guarantees you will get one. Some aaa agents will put a ressie on hold for you before you purchase the membership so tht you can know for sure you will get the discount. Disney CM's will book a room only for you without proof of membership (some have reported they were asked by the cm for their aaa number but mostly from what i've seen people weren't) but you would be required to show the card at check in as proof. If you are going to get a room only you can book through disney or aaa but if you want a package with a aaa disocunt you must book through aaa - no one else can do it.

Booking a room only now does not secure a room for you for the package. Reason 1- you can not add tickets and dining to a room only. To go from room only to a package what ends up happening is room only is cancelled deposit is refunded, new package is booked and new deposit is taken. This can cause any number of problems especially if you wait too long and availability becomes scarce it not nil.
Reason 2 - There are x number of room only aaa room only's allowed, and y number of aaa packages available. If you book a room only now and wait, by the time you decide to do a package instead, all the packages may be sold.

As far as your friend booking it, the reservation must be in the name of the person with the membership, or atleast that person must be in the traveling party. Since that won't be the case you would not be able to use it.

You also get discounts other places. We saved $500 on a termite contract on our house through AAA. We saved on a recent vacation to SanAntonio with cheaper room rates, discount tickets to Six Flags, and some other stuff. Look at their web site and check out all the stuff you can get discounted and see where else you can save some $$$ besides just Disney. The $65 is well worth it!!:woohoo:
