Is American Airlies in trouble also? I lose track of who is on strike or going to be or bankrupsy??
THANKS
American Airlines is only one of the six legacy carriers (American, United, Delta, Continental, Northwest, US Airways) that has never filed Chapter 11.
American Airlines has piled up huge losses over the past few years, due to brutal price competition, sky-high fuel prices, and the acquisition of the assets (and some of the troubles) of TWA. But AA is well positioned to prosper if fares go up and fuel prices come down.
American Airlines has been able to cut costs substantially, without resorting to Chapter 11. On domestic flights, AA has eliminated free meals, pillows, and blankets. AA has trimmed their schedule to achieve fuller aircraft. AA employees have seen their wages reduced. And AA, which used to have the best legroom throughout coach in the domestic airline industry, has squeezed more seats onto every mainline aircraft so they can sell more tickets.
I would not hesitate to buy tickets on AA.
