I'm a regular here, just wanted another name b/c what I'm asking is confidential. My dh wanted to know if there were AA meetings right at WDW and if so, where and when. If not, any recommendations as to the closest place for such meetings - when and where? Thanks for your help - I'm really proud of him for asking - he especially asked me to post the question on Dis boards. If you want to pm me with the answer instead of posting - that's great too. Thanks again!

You should be proud of him! My DH is an alcoholic but not willing to get help yet but I remember reading in one of the guide books while there is not an AA meeting onsite there is one close by, the guide book said to talk to guest services and they would be happy to arrange something for you. Maybe you can call the 800 number for WDW and ask for the guest services number and go ahead and call to make sure. Good luck

thanks for the supportive words - I am very proud of him - he's working hard - day by day. any other advice is still appreciated!

I just wanted to pass on a Hug & Hello from another recovering Alcoholic. I'll be down 2x this year & am always willing to meet up for an impromptu meeting if y'all are there in Aug or Dec. PM me & let me know if that'll help.

I'm Blessed & Proud of my 19+ years of sobriety by the Grace of God & Fellowship of AA.

My brother is also an AA member...I went to a meeting with him and it's so amazing seeing the people involved working so hard. I hope all of the family members mentioned already continue to improve and heal. Happy thoughts your way.

reprinted without permission, but I'm hoping, under the circumstances, they won't mind. I didn't want to paraphrase.

"Friends of Bill. A Linthicum, Maryland , mom suggested this: We went on this vacation with a recovering alcoholic. He was able to attend daily 3-4 p.m. meetings that were held just outside the park in one of the hotels. It would be helpful if you mentioned that there are meetings available for Alcoholics Anonymous. Disney does not sponsor them. This is a very sensitive issue for many that are too afraid to ask for fear of public ridicule. The person in our group took a cab from the resort the first time and never had to after that. There are regulars in the meetings that will pick up anyone from their resorts that needs a ride. Thanks for letting me include this. I wouldn't want someone to be afraid to come to Disney because they feared a setback in their recovery."

Good luck and God bless.

Radio Fanatic, look for meetings for "Friends of Bill W". For example, they have one every morning on DCL. Bill Wilson was one of the founders of AA and many "blind" mtgs are called "friends of Bill W." it's like code I guess. My DH and I have been involved in the recovery movement for awhile now and it has blessed our lives. Good for your DH. If he says he "needs" a meeting, believe him. It is good for everyone -- and while we all love vacationing and Disney in particular, it is impt to remember how stressful we sometimes make "vacations" -- plus, if you become more involved in the recovery movement, you will find an amazing commaraderie, not unlike what you find on these boards, that welcomes you home, no matter where in the world you are. From my own experience, any encouragement you can give to get your A to a mtg, the better life will be for you in the long run. I could go on and on. AA changed our lives. Feel free to pm me.

Just sending PD your way, RadioFanatic. I've seen far too many problems with this in my family, and it's tough. Good luck to you and your DH.

thank you again to everyone for the great advice and warm wishes. he's doing great - but as you know, it's a day by day thing and I really am proud of him for asking this question. we'll be there the third week of october if anyone wants an impromptu meeting as well. I printed this thread out to him and he was happy for the info. thanks again - anyone know what the exact hotel is?

:grouphug: for you RadioFanatic, Leota, and everyone else affected by this disease. Best wishes to your DH, RadioFanatic. :goodvibes
