I just wanted to share a quick story regarding American. I had a trip scheduled for March but was unable to go because I got very sick with pleurisy. I of course didn't by flight insurance because I never get sick LOL.
American has extremely high change fees of $100. I emailed their customer service department with my sad story. They ended up being very compassionate and waived a good portion of my families change fees and sent me a voucher. So far they are being very good about rebooking the trip.
The lesson from the story is that it never hurts to ask, all they can do is say no.

Wow! That's great to hear!! Sometimes things do work out. I've had pleurisy a couple of times. I'm sure the $100 was the last thing on your mind at the time, but it was sure nice to get some relief on the airfare.

American is really nice. A long time ago, my husband and I missed our flight to a cruise, and it was totally our fault (to make a long story short, hubby had me waiting at the wrong gate with him). But they got us on the very next flight to Miami, even though they had to pay someone to give up a seat! I couldn't believe it! They were so nice because we told them we had to make it to the ship, and we were the ninnies who missed the flight ourselves...it wasn't even American's fault. That really impressed me.
