Any of AA people out there notice that AA has really restricted the awards availability? I am looking at flights for April and June 2011. I can't find any flights. The same flights for April last year were readily available this time of year last year.

For award seats, I usually start checking 330 days out. Then, it will vary for a LONG time (as the airlines release seats). Keep checking!!

I also recommend www.flyertalk.com for some other advice on FF seats (although their jargon is quite unique!). They have helped me a lot - I've scored first class to Hawaii twice now (for 4 of us) for only 75,000 miles and 85,000 miles on Delta! And those are almost lie flat bed type seats!!! Sorry, had to brag...

Definitely keep checking. I really like AA and hope you find something. The nice thing with them is, they allow one way booking.

I have also been very happy with their policy of letting me change an award ticket to another date with no fees. I have liked AA in general, but the awards availability is much more restricted this year, compared to the last couple of years.

Last week I booked an award ticket on American to Seattle for August. I'm glad I did, because the availability of 25K award seats is now limited to 3 flights each way or times I can't make. Just keep checking, as seats sometimes open up down the road.

By product of increasing amounts of business and leisure travel and overall reduced amount of seat inventory. This is the cause for general increasing airfare and on the same token, less low FF mile award tickets.

I have not noticed at all. One just needs to be flexible and check often. AA by far is the most generous of the airlines with award availability. Delta and US Airways especially are complete jokes.

We usually use our AA miles ot upgrade to first class and have found that, now that there is a co-pay, there is even more inventory. -- Suzanne
