The AA website states that AAdvantage Card members and everyone on their reservation is exempt from baggage fees. Has anyone done this? Just curious how it works, do we need to show them the card at the airport? We typically don't use the card but do have it; my DH is on a separate flight but each of us have others traveling on the same reservation. Can we each get the benefit or just the primary card holder?

Thanks for any information.

I know on Delta, it's all passengers traveling on the same reservation number as the primary cardholder. And it shows up when you go to check in online that you don't have to pay baggage

I am not sure what "AAdvantage Card" you are referencing. here is the list of those who are exempt from baggage fees from AA.com:

"The following passengers will be allowed a 1st and/or 2nd checked bag at no additional charge provided it falls within the size and weight limitations:

- Customers traveling to or from a destination outside of the US/Canada/PR/USVI if the ticket was purchased before September 14, 2009
- For tickets purchased after September 14, 2009, customers traveling to, from, or through an international destination that does not include Europe or India
- Customers traveling between Mexico and the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Europe and India if the ticket was purchased before May 3, 2010
- Customers who purchase full-fare tickets in Economy Class
- Customers who purchase Business or First Class tickets
- Customers flying on AA codeshare flights not operated by American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection® (operating carrier baggage allowance and charges will apply)
- Active U.S. Military personnel traveling on orders or personal travel
- Active U.S. Military dependents traveling on orders
- American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® or AAdvantage Gold® members
- oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby members
- Customers flying on the same reservation as an American Airlines AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum or AAdvantage Gold member or oneworld Alliance Emerald, Sapphire or Ruby member regardless of frequent flier status or fare type (not applicable to group bookings)
- First and Business Class MileSAAver® Awards
- First, Business and Economy Class AAnytime® Awards
- First and Business Class upgrades confirmed prior to check in "

Hope that helps. -- Suzanne

I'm afraid just having the 'regular' AAdvantage card doesn't get you free bags domestically (but does get you 1 on international trips). You have to have either Gold, Platinum, or Executive Platinum status with your AAdvantage account.

Having a 'platinum' Citibank AAdvantage credit card is not the same either. It's the frequent flier account that must have the status from flying so much each year.

HTH!
