So your saying if DH would have made about 200$ last year which would have excluded us from that whole 44$ I got from the EIC you wouldn't be telling me what I should spend the rebate on?? I think people should be more upset about tax breaks for the rich than EITC for the working folks who are doing their best. I'm all for a 10% income tax across the board. 2 line tax form: how much did you make? Multiply line one by .10. No deductions, no breaks, no gimmicks. If you make 12000/year, you are going to pay $1200. If you make $400,000 per year, you are going to pay $40,000. Unfortunately all the IRS agents and tax attorneys and accountants will have to look for other work (which is why it will never happen)

Do I think the middle class deserves a break? Absolutely. The middle class is shrinking in this country and it is VITAL that it not be allowed to wither away. ("Let them eat cake", anyone???) That break needs to come from the upper tax brackets paying their fair share to alleviate the pressure on the lower classes. Sadly, this nation is about me, me, me, I want it all and I want it now, so unless there is some kind of national revolt against the corrupt government, we can debate until the cows come home and nothing will ever change.

The EIC is a horrible idea and does nothing but continue the entitlement mentality that started with The New Deal.

Yes people who earned no income will be benefiting. Those who are on social security and filed a return even if they reported no earned income will in fact be getting this "stimulus" check.

Oh, so people in the armed forces, fire fighters, policemen, teachers, etc. have an entitlement mentality? Just so you know, a lot of them qualify for EIC. It doesn't mean that they feel like they are entitled.

Well some have insulted people who are less fortunate. Some have pointed out that pretty much anyone who is eligible for EIC, has an "entitlement mentality." Sorry, but that sums up a lot of people. Even people who pay their taxes according to IRS requirements.

This is not true. I qualified for EIC due to the amount of money I made this year, which was not much as I was in my final year of college. The money from this as well as from the stimulus check I should receive will either all or mostly be going towards my student loans.

Personally, I don't think the stimulus plan will do what the government is expecting it to do. Instead, it only increases our debt to foreign nations. Most people I know will not be putting it directly into the economy, but will be paying of student loans, credit cards, car payments, and the like.

Why don't you go out with my DH one week and see how "lazy" he is. By the way his week goes like this- Marine Corp job ( which is Crash, Fire, Rescue) 24hrs on/ 24 hrs off then 48 hrs. on / 48 hrs. off. Then in his off time he also works at the local fire station in town.
Oh yeah I forgot we got extra back last year in our tax returns cause he was deployed over in Iraq.
Yeah he's real lazy

Sorry for not answering your question. I believe a lot of people are either going to put it into savings or pay bills. I think that most of them will use it to pay bills. I don't think it's going to help the economy. If it does, it will be very little.

No, and I think the 40 percent of americans that don't pay taxes should have to pay something even if it is just 100 bucks a year. I don't think anyone should get away with not paying something in tax if the biggest burden falls on someone else.
