A Word About Line Jumpers

There was I time I detested line jumping. I really resented it. After reading contrary opinions here on the disboards, I began to open up to the idea. However, on my most recent trip, I saw more line jumping than ever before, and it really bothered me.
I understand all the varying circumstances that could lead to a person wanting or 'having' to line jump. Ive read them already.
But the next time you line jump..turn around. look behind you to see the reactions. Look behind you and count how many children under the age of 10 you just made wait to ride. Some of these children, and adults, are at the parks for a one and only trip. Sometimes its 95 degrees that they are standing in. Some of them will never come back. Some have been doing more than their fare share to ride. Moreso than you, linejumper.
Ill share just 2 experiences I had with linejumpers this past trip. There were more incidents, but it was these two that were the final straw for me.

Incident 1: My son and myself decided to ride Expedition Everest. We got in the single rider line, hoping it would move along. Well, the ride shut down for about 30 minutes. We toughed it out. People began to bail out of the line, and we moved up..maybe 50 feet or so. Lucky us..because lo and behold..once the ride started back up, here she comes. Lady Linejumper. To be with her family..IN THE SINGLE RIDER LINE..

Incident 2: Near the close of Epcot EMH, son and I decided to try to ride Test Track. We had never ridden, and you know how the wait times can be. Fast Passes were not an option. Again, took the single rider line. The was a family of 4 ahead of us. Onward we trudged..Finally, we approached the loading area when lo and behold..Lester the Linejumper reaches down, unhooks the chain, looks back at his family, and they proceed to the STAND BY LINE..unhook that chain, and cut right in..I about died when they got to their vehicle, the CM put 2 in front and 2 in back, and called for 2 single riders..you got it..me and the boy.
So the cutters had to share the car with us, and basically gained no time. Made for an uncomfortable ride as well..
Neither of these scenarios were anything I had seen or heard of in my life. Just plain greed. NOT VERY MAGICAL.
While I dont think there should be security, etc all over disney, I would like to see linejumpers removed. In a way, it is stealing..

My worst case of line jumping in Disney wasn't for a ride but for the David Cassidy concert at one of the festivals in EPCOT.We were probably 10th in line waiting to see the last show of the night.There was a group of about 4 or 5 that were first in line and then there were like 5 or 6 men in front of us and as soon as the middle show finished about 25-30 women came in from seeing the middle show,went under the rope and got in the line with the men in front of us who were obviously holding their place.I mean it's a big theater so it's not the biggest deal we still got very close to the stage but I couldn't believe how many there were.Usually while waiting for these concerts people hold the place in line for 2 or 3 people who go to the bathroom or to grab something to eat but never 30.Overall Disney in my opinion doesn't have a very bad problem with line jumpers like you'll find at amusement parks but it still happens.

I don't have a problem with those who line jump due to the fact that a mother or father (or someone else) had to change a little one's diaper or that they needed themselves had to go to the restroom. However, for someone to jump like those in those pp's, that's ridiculous. We had a lady line-jumper ahead of us at Splash Mountain last year. She couldn't decide if she wanted to ride or not and then she just got too hot and had to go and sit down. She left the line (we were still making it through the ropes outside) and when her family got close to heading inside the "mountain", she got right off the bench, walk under the ropes, and met her family. They had no children with them and all of them were 30+ years old. That really ticked us off!

The CM's really need to monitor this more often, especially the most popular rides, so that this type of thing doesn't happen (at least as much).

It's Disney - everyone should just enjoy themselves!

I've been lucky enough to have never witnessed serious line-jumping at any park at Disney, or even Universal for that matter. At least not that I can remember. We usually go during slower times of the year, so that might be a factor.
When we used to go to Six Flags Over Georgia growing up, holy cow! The line breakers there were unbelievable. I'm not even talking about people being inconsiderate and holding places for one another in line. I'm talking about groups of teenagers and sometimes adults who would just elbow in and push their way to the front of line. Employees would do nothing, and if anybody dared to say something about it to the line breakers, a fight of some sort (whether verbal or physical) would break out. Only then would security show up and do something.

If someone has a little one that they had to change or take to the restroom... fine with me. Otherwise, I don't care about your family being up ahead, I am not letting you by nor do I have to- it's not going to happen, ESPECIALLY in the single rider line. If you don't mid riding single, you can wait single as well.

When someone is coming by going... excuse me, excuse me, I'll just say- nope.

I don't see anything wrong with what happened to you at Splash Mountain. Your place in line was not affected at all. She waited in line with her party but left because she wasn't sure she wanted to ride, then had second thoughts and figured, ok, let's give it a go.

That is not a line jumper, she had a place in line, her party remained in line, she left and came back.

True line jumpers are annoying and rude, and cause those behind them to wait longer. True line jumpers are those that were never in the line to begin with.

People who leave the line can (should) be allowed back in under the right circumstances.

I don't think this is a big deal at all. She couldn't decide, she went out to wait and changed her mind. i don't even care if 2 people from a party want to leave the line and get a drink and come back if there spots are being saved. It's just not that big a deal to me.
A group of 25 or 30 as a pp mentioned, now that's annoying.
(I think in my mind, spots being saved for 1 or 2 are fine. Any more than that....no way! )

People do this stuff because they know most people won't say anything to them. If I were in that Test Track stand by line, I would have opened my big New York City mouth.

Me and my boyfriend was waiting in line for a ride in Disney Paris, I was standing looking back in the line when I saw this mother pointing forwards with her two children walking through the line. Thinking that they was going to be meeting dad or someone, but instead they cut through the very long line and went to stand in front of us, and they was not meeting up with any one. It annoyed me so much, I would of said something but due to not being able to speak french I just walked infront on them and continued to queue up. We had been waiting for over 40 mins and still was no where near the front. It was just so rude and there was no reason why they couldnt wait like everyone else had.

I remember the days when Disney monitored and did not tolerate line jumping. I also remember people being more considerate.

Not very magical I like to spread out in the queue myself.So if someone tries to snake past, and is obviously line jumping, they have to forcibly move me.

This is really funny. Why not just take them out and shoot them. Or better yet, make them go to Universal for the day. I have no problem with one person catching up with a family member who is already in line. Its all part of the Disney experience.

I accidentally line jumped once and never will again!

At AK several years ago...dh was still a 'newbie' and we had a plan where I would get a FP and meet him and kids at the safari and I did stipulate OUTSIDE the line. Well, DH figured I was 'right behind him' and since you have to walk a bit first thing in the morning to even reach the beginning of the line after entering the queue entry point - he started walking. Well, no surprise here - he ended up with LOTS of people behind him by the time I got there. And the thing was - I didn't even know if he was in that stroller drop-off section waiting for me (since I figured he might have made it that far with no line since he was there before me). Anyway - I did excuse myself figuring when I got to the stroller section I would just wait for our 'proper' place there, but, of course, the family wasn't there either. Now, I got a bit worried and did continue to move up in line because I was concerned that they weren't in line at all (fully thought I would walk right through and not ride the ride since now I thought they weren't there) - but lo and behold - there they were near the front of the line. At this point I was very irritated that dh hadn't followed 'the plan' but I did finish the wait and ride the ride with them. Although, honestly I did not increase anyone else's wait time since our whole family fits in one 'row' in the cars. But I have never been so embarrassed in my life and dh and I have discussed it several times since then - reminding him that IN THE LINE is not where we meet. He and I both learned our lessons.

That's why I can't believe people who do this as general practice - it practically ruined my morning when I did it once due to guilt and embarrassment.

How do that was the reason? When me and my wife and sister were waiting for splash mountain the second week of May, the heat started getting to her so i told her to go sit down and when me and my sister get closer, go under the rope and join us.

We've spent the last 2 summers and "Worlds of Fun" in Kansas City. It's not tolerated at all there. If you line-jump, you can expect to be removed from the park.

We were in line for TSMM last August (newly opened). I waited in the FP line at rope drop, while DW and DD waited OUTSIDE the entrance for me. Well, we started going through the line and MANY people decided it was OK to have someone wait in the FP line while their family got in the standby line. Then, the FP person cut through the entire line to catch up with their family.

The first time it irked me...by the fourth time I was really starting to get p.o'd. I had basically decided the NEXT person that tried to cut by me was NOT going to, and I was going to say "Well, I guess your family will have to wait for you." Fortunately (or unfortunately) their never was another person that did it. I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't let someone through. Seems to me if a real row resulted that brought the issue to a CM attention, then the "cuttee" would be the victor over the "cutter". Though at least one person in this case was sanctioned to do this by CM...they were allowed to come in through the closed FP lanes (it was too early for valid FP)and cut over when their party caught up to them, said the CM told him to do it...possibly lying about that though.)

This is the only time we really saw a problem with cutting in line. If someone gets out of line for an emergency (bathroom / child) and needs to get back, I will usually cut slack there...but the "my family is up there" thing.

Last year my dh & I were waiting in a very long, very hot line for Dinosaur. There was a man in front of us that appeared to be alone. Shortly after we entered the bldg., he made a phone call & in about 15 minutes his family of 6 (no small children) showed up to join him! I was just livid, but much to my surprise, kept my mouth shut while I quietly seethed! People can be terribly rude & inconsiderate

For the most part line jumpers don't bother me. But when I am in line and looking at the que area, TSM, and there is a gap between the person infront of us and because we are takeing some quick pics and others behind us find its ok to just pass by us and get in line infront of us I have a huge problem with that. Just because there is a gap does not give you the right to butt infront of us. That happened to us at TSM last year.

I understand that sometimes a family member has to meet up with their family already in line. However, on our last trip, we were waiting for Dumbo with our 3 year old. We began a converstion with the family in front of us, so we knew exactly who was in front of us in the line. DD became fussey and we were talking and playing with her to calm her down. Next time we look up there are two young boys (they looked to be 6 and 8) in front of us - not the original family. And the next thing you know the boys' Mom and sister begin coming up the line to meet them. We told the Mom what had happened, she questioned the boys, they denied it, and they stayed in line. We didn't want to cause a scene so we let in go, but of couse that made DD and all the other small Dumbo riders wait that much longer. It seems to me that this parent sent her children to cut - it's a shame.

This happened a lot while we were there this month. It was very annoying. I'm sorry but if you need to go to the bathroom or change a diaper then have the whole family wait for you. The wait times for most rides were insane anyway. Whats it going to take 5 minutes at the most? I've taken 3 kids to Disney for years and never would've gotten in the line unless we were all set to go esp a line with over a 50 min wait. If one of them had to go while in line we would've all gotten out of line. You've planned your trip for months and you can't plan a potty/change break? Not buying it. Flame away.

Also several times people were saying they were meeting up with family and guess what? No family but they were at the top of the line. This was more than aggravating.

I agree that CM's should be seated throughout the lines to stop this from happening. This would effectively deter this from happening. O, I'm sorry you're family is up there, they should've waited for you because you are going to have to wait at the back of the line like everyone else. If not, we are going to enforce the no line jumping rules that are posted and you will be asked to leave the park. Have a magical day!
