A Wigdout trip report, DISmeets, Flashing Jelly Rings and Manpris, Oh MY!

And the fruity drinks with straws...

Oh I love the fruity drinks with straws and umbrellas!:goodvibes

Oh, there will be a new PTR of some sort...

No doubt!;)

You know what I am thinking, Wigd...or am I killing you because I can't make up my mind?
I'm impatient!:rolleyes1
I followed you over from Laura's TR. I'm hooked in!

Can't wait to read more. :)

Hi there! So glad you are here! :yay:

We had a great trip but Laura's pixie dust was the best by far!

Wow, look I made the report! :) To answer all your questions, yes, FLChick's Tour of the "Other" Side of Orlando is open for business. You too can have a day in the real world during your vacation to Mickey's world. Tours can be customized to your group. Florida treat packages are available with all tours. LOL ok I'm just kidding - who knows, maybe one day I will.

Alright for answers to all your questions I believe I had the tortellini alfredo with meatballs. And yes I know how tragic it was that we didn't get to go to the cm warehouse. When people call over for their hours they need to have someone who answers the phone that actually knows what they are talking about! As far as the outlet it is called Orlando Premium Outlets http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=17.

Anything else? I found a picture from later on. I have no clue how to post it though. Haven't figured all that out.

I haven't done later on yet, I'll update tomorrow!:cutie:

Yes! I think we need a cruise PTR. :goodvibes And hopefully I'll be joining you by writing a cruise PTR in the somewhat near future as well...!

The upside down building is called WonderWorks. We have one here. Well, not in Knoxville, but in Gatlinburg. It's a lot of fun - filled with all kinds of games and cool hands-on activities for kids. My kids love it! (not that we'd leave the Disney grounds for it....we're some of those who take that ME bus and never leave too :))

That sounds really fun!:thumbsup2

At first we were reluctant to go, had never left property, but Charlotte insisted, so we said, sure. I'm glad we did, the earth didn't shake when we left property or anything like Marc expected. The CM warehouse would have been great, hopefully next time.
You will need to extend your stay to take it all in, no park days should be sacrificed....:sad2:

At the moment it's the child's rocker in our living room and a stuffed bird that he's playing basketball with. We had to remove the hoop on his door because of the slam dunking going on and we were afraid the aquarium would be a basketball tragedy.
The boy loves his basketball, baseball, and he might start tackle football in August...
I hope he can take one of his sports as far as Trent did, it's not easy to make the high school teams here. I'll bet Trent was really good to make it there. Baylor has his sights set on playing for the University of Kansas then going on to the NBA, we've told him that he needs a back-up plan (we're not tall people) so he says teaching PE and coaching
.

I keep saying we're upping our ten day trip to a twelve day to get in SeaWorld and a day trip to the Atlantic Coast. If I add milling around Orlando for a day, I better make that thirteen, huh? And that's too unlucky, of course, so we should round it to a full two weeks!

Anybody want to hire me for another part-time job? I'm free between 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m.!

If I may be a bragging mom for a moment, Trent did very well in his high school sports. He played basketball (his passion) and soccer all of his years. Lots of travel, long summers at camps and tournaments, lots of money, but lots of thrills and good times. He loved every minute! He had/has natural athletic ability, and he worked hard. He was very short until he reached about ninth grade, so he had to really prove himself. At one tournament, the lady at the gate said, "Yeah, right!" when he said 'player' as they walked through. He had to pull open his coat and reveal his warm-up to prove it. I think it gave him a little spark, though, because that little point guard who wasn't big enough to be a player ran circles around that team and we (our team) tore that team up big-time!

Trent ended up getting several MVP awards, including in his senior year for both basketball and soccer, had district and regional honors in both and college scholarships in both. He was named Mr. Athletic in the Senior Superlatives.

His playing days were ended in a soccer match the last two minutes of senior night when he went to kick the ball into the goal and the goalie's knee hit him in the stomach. The school trainer let the campus doctor see him, but they said it would probably be fine. It was not known until the next day the extent of the injuries. In the middle of the night, he got sick, which worried me a little.

The next morning, he said he was staying home, and I knew he felt bad, because he had not missed a day all year. He became increasingly ill during the day, went to school to see his trainer, and was sent straight to the hospital. Turns out that that kick had busted every organ in his stomach! It was a freak thing that the doctors could not explain - just the way the guy hit him just tore him up. He had liver and spleen damage that they could see, and when they got into surgery they found a hole in his stomach, as well. They said every organ in there was torn or bruised, as in injuries they see in 80 mph car crashes. They said they had never seen anything like it and never would again! They also said another two hours and he would have collapsed (at his senior banquet) and died.

Needless to say, Senior Banquet was not quite a happy occasion. His tux went unworn, and his friends wore their tuxes and gowns to the hospital waiting room. His date went dateless, poor girl, after he insisted she leave the hospital and go to the banquet for at least a little while.

He was not able to finish his senior year, but he did walk ever so gently and very bent over to receive his diploma with his friends. His story was on the front page of The Tennessean, it was that unusual! He had an eight month recovery, and by that time, college ball was out of the question. That's when he got into his weightlifting stuff, as he recuperated, He thought about getting back to playing basketball, but then he just got into adult life and let it go.

That changed our lives, and it's one of the reasons I cherish every day. Sorry for running way away from Disney topics, but I need to get this out every so often just to relive it and re-appreciate my kids. Thanks for giving me the opportunity.

I wish Baylor all great things in all of his sports days. It will make for exciting years ahead!

wow MeMom, I've heard you say before that Trent had an injury that ended his athletic career but didn't realize what it was. What a story! As another Mom who almost lost a child, I can imagine how scary those first days were (and the thoughts about "what if" that haunt you at times!) Thanks for sharing

You can get a lot done in two weeks, but if you are taking time to relax you can't get it all done, we sure found that out, but that just leaves something to look forward to next time!

Oh, MeMom, that just breaks my heart for Trent! So many injuries in sports but I would have never thought soccer to be one for those types of injuries! He must have been a well loved kid with all of his friends coming to visit him on that special night!:goodvibes Sounds like you raised him well..... must have got all that natural talent from you, right?

Those "what if" moments must be horrible! That story really makes me nervous for Baylor to start football this year. I just hope the pads keep him safe and he doesn't get sick from the heat when they begin in August.

Did something happen to one of you little boys? I need to go over and read your trip report, I just peeked at it and love the beginning with all those old Disney pics!:goodvibes

All this cruise talk. Giving me ideas. :rolleyes1 Although I will have to admit that while I don't feel quite as strongly as MeMom does about submarines, seeing the Titanic once was enough to give me some pause. Weird, I know. :confused3

And speaking of MeMom (sorry for the hijack)- what a story about Trent. I had no idea. Thank goodness he's so happy and healthy now. That must have been very scary! :goodvibes

Finally. :worship: to that McDonalds. I love McD's. I really do. Such a cheap date, I am.

I hope you enjoy it. I had a lot of fun reliving the vacation in this way, a first for me!

My younger son was born with a heart defect. It went undiagnosed until his 2 week "well" baby visit. (there were lots of little symptoms that afterwards we understood was because of the defect but by themselves didn't send up any red flags) We were sent to Des Moines to have a test run that our local hospital couldn't do. Within 15 minutes of walking in the door, they handed him to me and said "hold your baby now because we don't know when you will get to again" then they wisked him away into intensive care to be hooked up to dozens of IV and monitors and scheduled surgery for 3 days later in hopes that they could medically make him stronger in advance. That first night in the hospital, he nearly died and I have no doubt that if he had been home one more night, we would have woken up with a dead baby.

We were fortunate that there was no decision to be made...either we took the risks from the repair surgery or we lost him. This is when the "what ifs" happen (what if the doctor hadn't taken the warning signs seriously, what if she had said it could wait until tomorrow...)

Fortunately, he is 100% normal now and there is only a tiny chance he will encounter any issues down the road!

My oldest daughter saw Titanic twelve times at the theater......:lmao:and she went on a cruise, I know you can do it. It's a big ship plenty of room for you to join us!

I have never been through anything like that with a child, it would be so frightening!

I'm so glad that it turned out well for your little guy! We are so lucky to be living in a time that those problems can be handled! Good thing that everyone was taking his symptoms seriously, I hope he continues his good health.

Now I need to get some trip report reading done.:surfweb:

Of course! Right now though I am kicking around another idea. :goodvibes

I think I know what it is, too.
You guys are going to get the ship to stop one day in Nashville! :cool1:
Would a Disney cruise ship even fit in the Cumberland River???

It was crazy alright! I'm glad it's just a bad dream of the past now, but every once in a while I get a little misty-eyed thinking of it. I didn't realize the severity of what the surgeons were telling me, but when we had a prayer and Trent's trainer left the room crying, I knew then it might be pretty bad.

They put him on a closed wing of the floor because the trainer told them there would be 600 kids up there! :grouphug::crowded:

Trent got very little from me, I think. He's a people person, and I'm pretty reserved in real life. He's handsome and athletic, and, well...
I'm not!

I did play church softball and a year of volleyball. I played basketball, way back when basketball was three-on-three and the guards only went to halfcourt! I also played a year of junior college basketball, but that was just a freak thing. I think they were in dire need of players and they took whoever walked by! :rotfl:

I'm just very glad there is no video evidence of my fabulous play! ;)

Thank you for whispering about those things. :)
I've never seen Titanic. I guess I shouldn't either, huh?

He's happy and healthy now.
He's especially happy about his upcoming Wilderness Lodge visit.

I remember that feeling. My child was totally in the hands of strangers.

Katie, we are both very blessed that our boys are fine now. Trent is strong as an ox. He does have stomach issues depending on the foods he eats sometimes, but considering everything he went through, that's a tiny thing.

Those 'what ifs' help keep us grounded. :thumbsup2

Now, about that cruise stop in Nashville. It'll just be a tiny bit out of your way. We have friends that have a fine house right on the river, too. We can meet you there!!! :dance3:

You found me out, MeMom!

I don't know -- is the Cumberland River pretty wide and deep? I don't know how big the Disney Wonder is, but I would imagine it is pretty big.

Hey Wigd. sorry for the delayed post about your late update. We have been out of pocket most of the weekend.

I would say I was shocked that you had pictures of Shocker in Publix grocery store with the buggy.......but I do recall from your pre-trippie the pictures of cup-o-soup taken at your local grocery store........so, I really was only surprised to again find Shocker the one in the picture and not so terribly surprised that you had some of the grocery store itself!! :rotfl2:

Chicks church is pretty and pretty fancy too........don't see many with fancy water fountains out front around here.

Who would have thunk, a Mickey D's would be soooo much fun, with CS prices on fancy food for a CS meal!!! :lmao::rotfl2::lmao: I was so thrilled to see my buddy Baylor getting to shoot some hoops!!!

I am sure you would have had a blast at the Cast Members Connection or whatever it was called.........I bet there have been lots of VB left behind!!! :sad2: Though, who knows you might have run across Lil' Red.......he is still somewhere around Disney World. :sad1:

I take it that Shocker has booked the cruise? Oh, I wouldn't worry about splurging on the high price passports. If what you said about Shocker is true (that he never likes to leave your side)...if for some reason you were stranded and needed to fly back............well, I would think with HIM with you, whatever country you were in would make it happen pretty quick!!! Beep, Beep, Brother.........I sure have missed you!!! :lmao::rotfl::rotfl2:

MeMom, what a scarey time for your Trent. I know it must have felt terrible to have his sports career shortened suddenly, but I'm glad he's okay, and God has bigger things for him.

Wig'd, I know you're scared for Baylor to play football. I felt the same way about my very athletic but average sized son. He was an all conf. catcher on a two time sate champ baseball team. I talked him out of football every year by saying, "you don't want to be hurt for basketball." Well, he quit the basketball team his Jr. year because the coach was a jerk, so he decided he was playing football his Sr. year. He hadn't grown that much more, but he had so much fun!

He got to be a starter on the varsity team - they won their conference and took 3rd at State. It was really fun for all of us, and he regretted not having the experience all through HS. I regret it too. :sad2: So, there you have my "mom to mom" talk of the day.:goodvibes

Katie, thanks for sharing your story. It reminds us how precious life is.

wow that is so sad, yet happy at the same time since he is alive and well. I started crying. :sad2: I am so thankful to have such healthy babies. I do have a son with cp but he is still healthy for the most part. He just has problems with getting tired and is weaker than a normal child from the spongy upper body.
Now when I was pregnant with my last baby we found out that he only had a 2 vessel impelical cord and that was scary. They are suppose to have a 3 vessel. Normally they are missing or have a nonfunction kidney, but they found out after several ultrasounds that he had both and they appeared to be fine. They are also usually low birth weight babies and he diffently was not that at a wooping 10lbs 8oz and 21 3/4 inches long. :scared1:

I believe it's your turn again. ;)

MeMom, my goodness what a scary time for you and your family! I can't even imagine going through that.

Katie, even though I have heard your story about your younger DS, you deserve more hugs.

Is "out of pocket" a Southern saying? :cool1:

Out of pocket, to me, means having to pay for something without being reimbursed or paying for something that was not part of the package...

I just love the colloquialisms from the South! :thumbsup2
