We are grizzled WDW vets (~20 trips). We went to Universal once about 9-10 years ago. It looks like DS15 and I are going to make a quick Universal trip October 23-26. Probably stay offsite and do two days (Saturday and Sunday) in the parks. Some questions:

1) DS will want to ride Hulk coaster; I will not. Do they have a single rider line?
2) What is Rip Rockit Rideit coaster like? I enjoy RnR but am feeling too old these days to have my guts slung around too much
3) How far in advance do I need to buy HHN tix? Is it already too late?
4) What is the best way to experience Harry Potter attractions without maximum waits?

1) Hulk will be closed for refurb.

2) I'll leave this one for someone else. Hulk is the only one of the big coasters that I have ridden since DD won't ride them with me.

3) You'll be fine on tickets for HHN. You'll be able to do the add-on tickets for a discounted price since you will have day admission. http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando/

4) I advise doing the full queues for the main rides (Gringotts and Forbidden Journey) at least once - try first thing in the morning or late in the day. If you want to ride more (and we definitely do), you can use the single rider line to get on quicker. You won't be seated together, but DD and I are never more than a ride vehicle or two apart.

ETA: Meant to tell you to have a great trip! We love Universal.

The Harry Potter rides have only been about 30-45 minutes for most of the summer. The parks have amazing capacity right now, so wait times for most things aren't terribly long.

make sure to compare prices of staying offsite and paying for parking @ U vs cabana bay (look on 3rd party sites such as cheap tickets for often discounted rates). CB offers 1 hr early admission...helps to get a jump start.
