Ok, as I’m sitting here listening to the Broadway channel on Sirius Satellite radio, I got to thinking if I could any role on Broadway, what would it be? I thought this would be a good question to ask my fellow Dis’ers. So, a Broadway Producer comes up to you and gives you the chance of a lifetime to play the lead role in a Broadway show, any show, and not just musicals, it could be a play, which role in which show would you do? This is a tough question for me because I’d be happy with any major role on Broadway, but if I had to choose? I’m thinking maybe Jean Valjean from Les Misérable. I would also love to do Curly in Oklahoma. Julian Marsh in 42nd Street would be cool as well, also Billy Lawlor, the young male singer/dancer who sings “Young and Health,” and starts the song “Dames.” So who’s next?

ETA: I'm changing this to any role you'd like to play on B'way. Because I would love to be Skimbleshanks the Railway cat in Cats

PHANTOM! I  Phantom of the Opera, but I SO would not want to be Christine. The Phantom rules!

Probably J. Pierpont Finch from How to Succeed in Business without really trying. Or maybe Perchik from Fiddler (though I'd love to do Tevye, I'm small and a tenor so it wouldn't work). One of the leads from Sugar might be fun (the musical verson of Some Like it Hot). Nothing by Andrew Loud Webber though.

Ooooo, I never thought of Phanton. I would love to play the role of the Phanton. :thumbsup2

It's not exactly a lead, but I'd love to play Grizabella from CATS. She is one of my favorite characters from Broadway.

I would love to play Fantine. There aren't many starring roles for mezzos and I love her songs.

Also maybe Elphaba in Wicked, she has a couple of good songs, and it would be cool to fly ;)

And even tho it is a male role, I would love to play Gene Kelly's role in Brigadoon.

Good question! :thumbsup2

What a great question, and an incredibly hard one!!

My choices would be Mary Magdeline in Jesus Christ Superstar

OR

Pumbaa in the Lion King.

Elphaba in Wicked!! I could Defy Gravity!!!!!

Jo-Ann in Rent-I would get to sing Seasons of Love!

Velma in Chicago-I could dance Fosse!

Nala in Lion King-just because the costumes are cool

Now of course all of this is contingent upon my having the body and the talent somehow miraculously given to me...

Hey Galahad, I did this role last season at a small community theater group on Cape and it was a great role to do...especially when my newlywed wife was cast as Rosemay. :teeth:

Oh, of course. As soon as the B'way Producer saw you, you had not only the body, but the talent :dancer: to go with it. All is right in my little world. :thumbsup2

That must have been great!!!

I've played in the Pit for How to Succeed but never was in the cast. A great show!

Eva in "Evita". Would love to do the balcony scene.

I love the music to this show. I must listen to it at least a dozen times in a month. I have it in my MP3 player, along with ever B'way show I, and my wife, own, and I'll just listen to it over and over again.

Either Galinda or Elphaba in Wicked. I love both roles. I can't hit a few of Galinda's notes though-but this is a fantasy, right? :goodvibes
I'd also like to play Maureen in Rent. My husband says I sing a good Mimi but I'm not hispanic looking-I am a freckly redhead :wave2: !

Gentlemen. Gentlemen.
A secretary is not a toy,
No, my boy, not a toy
To fondle and dandle and playfully handle
In search of some puerile joy.
No, a secretary is not,
Definitely not, a toy.
