I truly do not know the answer to this one.

DH and I are going to the west coast in a few months for a week. We'll each have a roll-on and a "small personal item." We also want to each take a standard size bed pillow. Our first flight leaves at 6:00 am, and we've got a red-eye home, so we will truly be using the pillows in our seats to get some sleep. I refuse to use those skanky, festering airline pillows. :scared:

We are flying CO. So will they give us a hissy fit about the pillow being a third carry-on, or do you think we'll be OK?

I have done this on SW and Jet Blue. I carry my pocketbook, and a small rolling carry-on. Usually I buckle the pillow on the bag to make it easier. Never had anyone say anything.
I totally agree about using those airline pillows!:scared1:

The airlines do have the right to conside rit a 3rd carry-on item and insist it fit in the roll-on or the roll-on be checked. It is at the discretion of the gate agent so no guarantees either way.

Buy some travel space bags and squish them each down to fit the carryon. You can pop them out once on board. Carrying a bulky pillow is a major pain, IMO -- squash 'em if you've gotta have 'em.

Great idea! I "might" be able to stuff them in the space bag into the front pocket of my roll-on. It won't zip shut, but they'll have to get over that.

We're in first three of the four flights, it's just that first flight from MCO to HOU that we're in coach, and that's where I think we might get hassled.

I always bring my own pillow when I travel these days. I'm allergic to so many things, various detergents, molds, featehrs/down, etc. and sleeping on hotel pillows seems to be a good way to wake up with swollen eyes and breathing problems. When I've brought my own pillow from home I've never had a problem.

If your personal item will fit into the pillowcase with the pillow, that's another option.

Possible but doubtful. I'll have my camera bag, DH will have his laptop case which is a small backpack style.

Unless we put the pillows into the space bags, then put the space bags and our carryon's into the pillowcase... :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Since your pillows are not going to take up any precious cargo space in the bins or under the seats, I don't think it will be an issue.

I've never seen pillows not accepted as items in excess of your carry-on allowance. Many people (including my DD13) travel with their own full size pillow these days.

Good idea about the space bag, though. Nice way to keep the pillow fresh and clean when you're not using it as you travel.

I don't think anyone here can answer this definitatively, as it really will be up to the particular gate agent. However, I did want to mention that it is very likely you will be asked to stow the pillow (either under the seat, yuck, IMO, or overhead) for takeoff and landing. So it will be taking up the space of a carry-on. (To address a previous response)
