I knew this would happen. I've been planning this trip for 4 years and a week before my trip and now I get sick. I started getting the runny noice, the sore throat, and Tuesday night. Went into work from noon to 5 yesterday (half day) and am home today. I already had the flu a month ago, but I knew I was going to catch something with everyone comming into work sick, which is why I decided to stay home.

I'm sure that this looks really bad at work, since the only days I have left at work before my trip are tomorrow and Tues, Wed and Thur of next week. I didn't want to get anyone else sick since we will be short two people tommorrow and two people until March 2nd.

You better believe that I'm still going, but this is the last thing I needed to happen.

I'm a human resources manager and I have run into this type of problem before. If you are worried about how your supervisor will react to you being sick and then going on vacation, I suggest that you talk to him/her and explain the situation. Perhaps there is some work that you could do from home? Hopefully your supervisor will be reasonable and understand that people do get sick before a vacation.

Hope you feel better soon!

I'm so sorry you're sick! At the recommendation of people here on the boards, I tried "Airborne" to keep myself healthy and to shorten the duration of illness when I finally did get sick. I have to say it really worked. My husband and two sons were very sick with the flu/cold the week before we left for the World. My third son and I started drinking Airborne 4 times a day before we left and continued twice a day once we were there and I did not get sick! When I did finally get sick three weeks after we got back, I drank it again and have to say I never got as sick as the people I caught it from. It's kind of expensive, but might be worth it. I got it at the drug store in the cold remedy section, but I had to go to six different drug stores to find. I guess it was recently talked about on Oprah and it sold out everywhere. It was invented by a second grade teacher who was tired of getting sick all the time.

Good luck!

LukenDC,

Thanks for your advice.

I'm not so much worried about what my boss is going to say, because he knows that people have been out sick off and on for the last month or so in all the departments. I'm just thinking in general how bad it looks when someone is going on vacation in a week and they call in sick.

soccer mom,

I don't think it's serious or anything like that, just a really bad head cold, but the blowing of the nose and sneezing is driving me crazy. My nose is so red now I look like Rudolph the red nose raindeer.

Jason! Better to be sick now than during your vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be done with it and have a happy healthy trip :cool1:

Jason, seriously - go buy some Airborne. It really works. Every time I start feeling icky, I take one or two doses and it knocks the cold right out.

Hope you feel better soon and can enjoy your trip!

Betsy,

I'm sure I will be better later today, but this isn't how I wanted the week before my vacation to go.

I feel for you, honey. I'm sorry. I am at home with the flu, a sinus infection and bronchitis. Well, minor bronchitis. I hope you get to feeling well very soon...and certainly days before you leave for your trip. I think you should try the Airborne and maybe suck on some zinc tabs.

Jason---
GET TO THE DOCTOR!!!!
I wouldn't play around with this!!! Go see your doctor and tell him your going on vacation and don't want to have anything happen while you are there and maybe he can give you an antibiotic that you can hold onto in case you get worse. You've been waiting too long for this to happen!!!!
Good luck!!!!
Keep us all posted and let us know how your feeling!!! Wish I could send you some of my famous chicken soup. It works wonders!!!

Magickingdom05, One week ago today I was deathly sick with the same thing, and we leave on the 24th of Feb, so I was very worried. Today, exactly one week later and one week from my trip, I feel GREAT. I did end up going to the MD because I didn't want to mess around, and she gave me an antibiotic. Have faith, and go see the doc. I have also read from other posters that Zicam works well for bad colds, it's over the counter. Good luck!!

Lucy-
Thanks for agreeing with me. Hopefully enough of us will get Jason to see the doctor since it was the right decision for you too.
Glad to hear your better!
Enjoy your trip!!!!

Thanks for all your concern.

I called the doctor earlier and she already knew that I was going on vacation from my last visit when I had my recheck from the flu a had in January. She told me that since I wasn't running a fever or had any other flu like symptoms that I had before, I should just continue taking my cold and flu stuff that she gave me, along with lots of liquids and that should do the trick. Since she just saw me, she doesn't think a visit is nesessary.

I'm starting to feel better and its probably just a cold that a couple of days of cold caps should do the trick.

DisneyFans4,

I will do that. I have been waiting to long to allow a cold to keep me from going to WDW.

That's right and I know you will knock this out of you!!!! Just don't stress yourself this weekend and just lay around and do nothing except plan your vacation.

Jason, a word of advice from the wife of a doc and a mom of two: if you are even the SLIGHTEST bit sick before you leave, take new boxes of everything that you have been taking that has worked with you (in your carryon if you're flying). We arrived at the YC and DD9 immediately starts carrying on with her throat (scratchy) and DH has to have Tylenol (adult, the one drug that I don't have with me!) went to the gift shop and managed to find some Ludens coughdrops for Kelly and a bottle of 8 hour Tylenol for Jeff. ~$6 for a bottle of like 20 Tylenol. Well, I open the Tylenol and hand him 2, saying " these 8 hour ones were all they had, they'll last longer being 8 hour, right?" Well, he goes ballistic, 8 hour ones are worthless, seems the coating on them keeps them from entering your system for a long time, yada, yada, yada. So, remember, take any meds you might need with you. the gift shops have only the bare bones, and I do mean bare bones. Get better soon!

Jason, are you flying? That could cause some problems if you are still not feeling well. I would definitely check with an MD if you don't improve soon. Sometimes the darn flu just has to run its course. Take care!

Go to the store and buy Cold Eeze. They are lozengers. They really work and they shorten the length of your sickness. I caught a cold a week before I was supposed to go to WDW last year. I took that for a couple of days and it really worked. Try it!!
