A Warning About ASMo Room Locations

Just back yesterday from 7 nights on the FTP at ASMo. I faxed a request for any two connecting rooms in the Toy Story buildings (I had specific rooms in mind but didn't want to be too picky). By coincidence, the room controller gave me what I thought (even before we got there) were the perfect rooms: building 10 (Buzz Lightyear side), 3rd floor, parking lot view. I specifically didn't want a room on the "Andy's Room" side of the building because my kids do occasionally take afternoon naps and I didn't want kids playing in Andy's Room to wake them.

So here we are at check-in thinking these rooms are exactly what I would have asked for if I had faxed in ALL my preferences.

HOWEVER . . . . . Be aware that this side of this building also faces the loading dock area of the main building as ASMo (the one with the front desk, food court, gift shop). Every night, we listened to truck after truck backing into the loading dock, and they all had those annoying beeping sounds when the truck is in reverse. It usually started around 2am and we heard it constantly until about 6am. It woke us up all seven nights of our stay.

By contrast, I never heard a peep from my neighbors and rarely (perhaps twice the entire time we were there) heard a toilet flush.

I realize they have to get deliveries, but dang it, if they're going to deliver at 2:00 in the morning, they ought to disable those bleeping beepers. I didn't complain because what can they do? They gotta get the food and merchandise in the door. And of course we had already unpacked 7 bags worth of stuff and the thought of repacking all that and schlepping it to another room (even if other rooms had been available) was more than I could swallow.

The hotel was great in every other way. We loved the theming, loved the pool, everything was clean, food was good. Bus service was OK (mostly short waits, except Monday when we waited 45 minutes in 90 degree weather with cranky children at AK to get back to ASMo).

Hope this is helpful to those of you contemplating room locations at ASMo. By the way, our rooms were 0948 and 0949.

This might come off wrong but here goes:

Did you call the front desk? If you didnt, they might not know that there was a problem unacceptable to you, and if they dont hear from the guests they cant correct it.

You said that the noise kept you up all 7 nights, well thats your problem, you didnt want to move. Some people might not be bothered by the sound, I know quite a few people who sleep like the dead, especially on vacation.

Also disabling the beepy dohickie is illegal i think on shipping vehicles on account that they cant see what is behind them, so i would wather them keep it on and save a life.

Well I for one am grateful that Sarivers told us what an awful location those rooms were. I would also hate to be awaken at two a.m. by beeping trucks. Yes, the reply to her post DID come off wrong!! That is what this forum is for, to share your opinion. She already had explained as to why she did not complain and the condescending reply she got really rubbed me the wrong way.

We had a similar problem at GF a few years back. We had always wanted to stay there and actually paid rack rate through a travel agent. The first night we were awakened by banging metal and beeping back up trucks but it was maybe 6-7 AM. Since it was still the beginning of our trip, we were ready to get up, especially since DS is 100% awake when he opens his eyes. Second AM, same thing banging and beeping. We complained at the front desk about the noise, and the manager didn't understand what we were talking about and said nothing was going on in our area, even though we could plainly see the loading dock area of the main building from our wing. We too were offered a change of rooms, but the thought of packing up and moving again (we spent our first night at the airport) was unacceptable. We didn't want to waste time packing and moving. Management said they would try to figure out what the trucks were doing that early and if they could be quieter. So next morning, it was even earlier 5:00 AM. Our dream vacation at GF was turning into a nightmare. Bottom line, to make us happy with all our complaining, they gave a free night. That made our rack rate into a discount. But we've never returned to the GF and now are definitely more fussy about our room location, the first thing we do is look out the window BEFORE unpacking and check for trucks, construction, loading docks, etc.
Last year at YC, we made them change our room even though they upgraded us to water view. We saw scaffolding right outside our window and didn't want to listen to painters in the AM. Best bet is to check out location before you unpack. Hope your next trip is better.
We have a woodsview booked for WL during Jersey week and I'm just hoping we get a good room because it's too booked for room changes.

I always go to the room and check it out right away. It drives my kid nuts, but I think we pay a lot of $$$$ and should be happy with our accomodations. I never thought to look for loading docks tho, thanks for the heads up on that! Also I don't unpack everything the first day anyway, maybe by the 2nd nite. If I don't move the first day, it's usually a keeper!

Oh no! It's not enough we have to worry about the flushing toilets and the cheerleaders and the teenagers in the pool, now it's the beeping trucks! ;)

I agree with Pretzel's logic about calling or moving and safe trucks. The poster who felt rubbed wrong should find her rubbing elsewhere, in my non-condescending opinion.

I've made a note to request room 0948 or 0949, sounds perfect. ::yes::

This will probably be difficult for people that arrive by any way other than their own personal auto. However, I always bring a fan with us wherever we go. We always set it on high, and never hear a sound from outside. Basically, I can't sleep without that noise from a fan, because I've been sleeping with one on for at least half my life. Without that fan on, the silence is deafening!!!!! LOL So, try a fan to drown out the noise from outside. ::yes:: ::MickeyMo

When you're in a hotel, you're going to get noise almost anywhere. We stayed at CBR 2 weeks ago in a room close to the lake, second floor, you would have thought it would be quiet. Some people are really inconsiderate, kids running on the walkway, people talking at all hours outside. The topper was one night about midnight, I heard this loud banging several times. I looked out and someone was dragging a stroller up the steps, the staircase was in front of our room.

Pretzel:

Thanks so much for your helpful contribution to this conversation.

To address your question, I did not contact the front desk about the loading dock noise because, as I stated in my original post, I am aware that food and merchandise must be delivered and I determined that for my family, changing rooms was more trouble than the nightly noise. Therefore, there was nothing the front desk could have done to eliminate the problem. A phone call to them would have been a waste of my time and theirs.

As you say, the noise waking me up all seven nights of our trip was, indeed, my problem. I appreciate you pointing this out as I had not realized it before. Let ME point out, however, that the purpose of my post was to keep it from becoming someone else's problem in the future. That's why the title of my post was "A WARNING about ASMo Room Locations" rather than a rant or vent about ASMo room locations.

Again, thank you for participating in this thread. I'm sure everyone values the relevant, useful information you shared with us.

This is exactly why I always bring ear plugs on vacation. You never know who or what will disturb your sleep.

Sarivers,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us in particularly me and my family. We are heading to ASMO Nov 14th-21st we requested on our ressie to have 2 of the three rooms connecting and on adjoing at the Buzz Lightyear bldg. After reading your post I called WDTC to also state that we would like "Andy's room" side of that bldg. I would rather my little one get a good night's sleep and take a so-so nap.

Again thank you so much for the info.:teeth:

Thanks for your post Sarivers :D , exactly the type of info I look for when reading these boards. I don't like to move once I've unpacked either ;)

Sarivers - I too am happy you let us know about this. We will be at ASMo the first week of December. We always ask to stay as far away from the pool as possible (we have no kids and only paln to be at the hotel to SLEEP and shower), however I never would have thought about the loading dock. But it makes sense. They have to deliver the food and supplies at some point. Thanks for your comments!

Thank you for this post.

From now on before we unpack we will look out the window to make sure we are not near loading docks, etc.

Again thanks for your post.

Renee

For future reference for anyone with upcoming trips, Disney is not responding to faxed requests anymore. Due to the overwhelming number of faxes they have been receiving, the room assigners have been instructed to only attempt to assign rooms based on requests noted on your reservation given to CRO.

This information was shared by several friends that work the front desk at resorts.

I travel with a white noise machine that I got from The Sharper Image. You can order them online. It really helps with noise.
And it's not as big as a fan!

Disneycrazymom - A few years ago, we had connecting rooms, facing the parking lot (covered by trees) in the Dalmations building. It was great. It was a short walk to either pool. We ended up spending more time at the Mighty Ducks pool as a result. It was a quick walk to the food court, etc.
