and an explanation of sorts. We took this trip last June and it is really too late for a cutting edge up-to-the minute report. Why so late? June-July 2003: utterly sick of both Disney and my own children, especially the combination of WDW and beformentioned children. August 2003: Getting son into first year of college (not so simple as you might think). September-October 2003: no clue, just lazy I guess. November: Trip to Pensacola with high school friend and cruise with hubby. December 2003: Christmas (aaagh! already!). January 2004: Trip to Las Vegas (I was underwhelmed). That brings us to today. It's dreary. It's been dreary for days and it's going to be dreary tomorrow. I don't have any trips planned. In other words, I badly need a Disney fix and I need it now.

Anyway, my father-in-law sent us off on this trip. I don't know if that means he loves us or that he's sick of us or that he just wants a vacation from my cooking. Being a dutiful daughter-in-law I tried to keep costs down. I Hotwired, Pricelined and Connectioned our way. As a result our itinerary looked like this: Wyndham Orlando - 1 night, Hard Rock Hotel - 2 nights, Renaissance World Gate-1 night, WDW Swan - 7 nights and the Hilton in Disney Village 3 nights. We had 5 day Universal Passes, 10 Day World Passes for WDW and a slew of dining vouchers. This was going to be our longest and most elaborate trip yet and in it's way, our last. We've been going to WDW almost annually since my oldest was five. This August he's off to college and I can already feel the apron strings loosening. The idea of this trip came about because Sam was planning a WDW trip of his own, a trip without me! No Fair! He's supposed to go with me! So, we took this one last trip, if not the last as mother and son, the last as mother and child.

A unique aspect of this trip would be the lavish recklessness of our accomodations and dining. We're usually in more modest lodgings and eat sandwiches in the room. The Hard Rock Hotel and the WDW Swan promised an elegance which, to date, we were unaccostomed. Previous stays at Deluxe Resorts were either trips with my DH or, way back in the nineties, with my mom. The kids and I usually wind up at the All Stars or Ft. Wilderness.

For those of you are still here, I'll introduce our little family:

Me (43) Mom to Sam and Liz. Travel junkie and certified Disney nut. Nigh on hysterical at the thought of having a grown-up son. How can he be an adult? I'm not an adult yet!

Sam (18) My DS. Huge. Huge feet, huge mouth and huge personality. Technology buff, off to college in August. Loud and irrepressible.

Liz (16) If she gets any prettier, smarter or cooler will probably secede from the family. Clothes horse.

My DH stayed at home. He loves us very much, but can only take so much of us in one room. Not a theme park person, he prefers a campin', hiking, canoein' vacation. My Disney obsession is is something he is willing to put up with but not something he wants to participate in.

Our plan was to drive from my Mom's straight to Orlando. It's a long drive (about 10 hours) but our car can practically drive itself there. It's been down this road many times. We're going to sped 3 days touring Universal and 10 days at WDW. A full two weeks of vacation. WOO HOO! Let's load up the minivan and GO!

Looking forward to your trip with your "older" kids. My son is going to be a teenager soon, and I'm already worried he won't want to go to Disney World. Hope your kids enjoyed being with you!

I know the feeling I sent my DD of to college this fall too.
Then I planned a vacation to Las Vegas in Oct because I
knew I'd miss her and I be mental by then. After we came back she asked when we where going on vacation again. I told her I was thinking of a cruise again, she says no why don't we go to Disney. Hey who invited her.... She's gone, ... doesn't need me anymore, all grow up, What goes on at college, stays at college. and as my little neice says "Sarah doesn't live with her Mommy anymore, she lives at college." I just smile, my baby still wants me, she wants to go to Disney with us. Well the day school ends we are off.
letting go is so hard......

Sounds like everything is planed and ready...My dear nephew started College this pass Summer at UF I was so happy when he said He would like to meet me in Orlando in November first time he stayed in his own room...They do grow up fast I remember his first meeting with Mickey. He use to wear his hats from WDW to pre-K everyday.
Hope your trip is a great one can't wait to rad more.
