I added an update post last night about the two people in our lives, Tommy and John, both who passed away this past weekend, about the services and such. And again thank you all for your many kind words. In the post, I mentioned this about Tommy's service.......
....There was a song that was played, just before the final viewing, I have to ask his mom what is was, it was beautiful. It had the lyrics in it, saying along the lines, 'We are better for having met you'. It was beautiful, moving, so appropriate for Tommy. I feel that it was from a Broadway play. The voice sounded very similar to Little Mermaid female voice. I sure wish I knew the name of it now to share here...

Well, Suzy, known here as Suzy Mouse, along with several others, sent me a PM rather than on the thread I had posted. In her PM, among her thoughts, she asked me if this was the song I was referring to, For Good, from the musical, Wicked, The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz. Suzy thought maybe it was not this song, as I mentioned a singer and this song actually has two. However, the voices sound very close, and not being familiar with it, I did think it one. And Suzy was correct, that was the music.

Listen to the song (I downloaded from iTunes and then uploaded to my site), read the words, it really, really is a wonderful lyric, and so very fitting for young Tommy, and appropriate as the many folks at the funeral home passed by his casket yesterday morning, for a final good-bye, just prior to heading to the church for his Mass of the Resurrection. I too was, as were many, changed for the good, having known Tommy during his all too short life.

And Suzy, thanks so very much, you saved me from some sleepless nights, trying to figure out what this song was. :goodvibes

ELPHABA

I'm limited:
Just look at me - I'm limited
And just look at you -
You can do all I couldn't do, Glinda
So now it's up to you
(spoken) For both of us
(sung) Now it's up to you:

GLINDA

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

ELPHABA

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:

GLINDA

Because I knew you:

BOTH

I have been changed for good

ELPHABA

And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

GLINDA

But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

BOTH

And none of it seems to matter anymore

GLINDA ELPHABA

Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood

BOTH

Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?

GLINDA

And because I knew you:

ELPHABA

Because I knew you:

BOTH

Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.

I'm not familiar with that song. I love the lyrics though.

Dan, this was the show that DD Jennifer saw in Chicago at the Oriental Theater last fall with her school choir.

She loved it!!

I got her the soundtrack for Christmas and she's been listening to this song on her CD player ever since.

You and Marie should see this show . . . even though that means you'll have to go downtown!!! ;)

Wonderful lyrics! I will be seeing Wicked on Friday with my mom and younger sister, I look forward to hearing this sung.
Thanks for sharing it, Dan.
