A vent about a cruise message board.

I just read the thread on Cruise Critic and in my opinion you were super duper defensive. You were practically shouting. I think Cruise Critic is a great resource and I would hate to think that others wouldnt go there simply because of this thread.

Some of the people on the Cruise Critic Carnival Board are just plain awful. I quit posting there a long time ago.................... :rolleyes2

Cruise Critic is a great resource... very true! However, if you mention bringing children aboard or the dreaded "dress code for dinner question" you will be immediately pummeled! You know what's really interesting though... once you get on board whatever ship you have chosen, you realize that all that hoo-haa on the message boards doesn't even exist on the ship.

I have enjoyed every cruise I have been on and yes, I even changed my clothes after the formal dinner without being chastised! :teeth: Not one person so much as glanced at me twice. People are just too busy having a nice time to give two hoots about what someone else is wearing!!

Just remember, the attitude you get on the message boards and what actually happens on board are really different.

Oh and Camp Carnival is a kids' absolute dream! They have so much fun, they never even want to hang out with you! You practically have to beg your kids to have dinner or hang out by the pool with you.

What? Why would you even bother checking out her post, and then commenting on it? I too would be super duper defensive if someone were critizing my parentings skills.

Check out my posts, I have nothing to hide and stand by everything

Hmmm... lemme guess. Cruise Critic?

They can be vicious and very opinionated over there. I've read responses that would make even the toughest DISer blush. :sad2:

LOL I just told somebody the other day that the Cruise Critic board is a bunch of child haters.

Yes, your baby monitor should work just fine. I'm taking ours next month on the Liberty. If you remind me when I come back, I'll be able to report how it worked.

My 12 year old and 15 year old will be in an inside room across the hall from us. My children will have a curfew, but also be allowed to visit areas of the ship by themselves such as the Video Game room and my 12 year old will be allowed to sign himself in and out of the Kid's program as he wants for swimming or watching a movie or going and grabbing some pizza. I see no reason to make them attend our fancy dinners and shows - they have generally proven themselves to be well behaved children, the follow their curfews and check in with us as we require --- plus if they tattle on each other like crazy. :rotfl:

My 3 year old will of course be firmly attached to an adult, or signed into the Toddler program at Camp Carnival at all times. No seperate room from Mom or roaming the ship for him.

I am on Cruise Critic all the time - we're going on a cruise in May. Since I frequent both boards I recognized the similarities. I didnt go over there just to read her post. I go over there several times a day (like I do on this board).

For the record, this is the first response that was given and Jackie jumped all over them:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm one who firmly believes in leaving as much "stuff" home as possible. Since there will be one adult in each cabin, you don't need the baby monitors. If your kids are very young, they should never be left alone in the cabin at any time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I dont think this response was all that mean.

Ok, I just went and checked out that thread too. Jackie had every right to be defensive, the other posters were being plain out rude to insinuate that she may leave her children alone and that they were superior b/c they would NEVER do such a thing.....

Let's see how defensive you would be if some made erroneous assumptions about your parenting.

Gosh, I didnt mean to start WW3 over here. I have never had a problem with that message board until now. If I asked "What are your opinions on taking baby monitors on a ship", or asked would you take them and what do you think about them. Then I would fully expect to get a full range of answers.
Since I asked a simple question I was a bit taken back.
To me its the same as asking "Do 2 way radios work on a ship". If I would of posted that nobody would of said anything negative. But, because I mentioned baby monitors "some" people assumed It was because of leaving my kids alone.

I have heard that before. Its such a shame. Now a days , cruising is geared so much towards the familes.

Yes please let me know how they worked. Will you be bringing a stroller? To me baby monitors dont take up much room in the big scheme of things. Heck we are taking a stroller and carseat with us.

Yep I can understand that.

Don't worry Jackie, it's not WW3 at all. Anyone who has spent any time over at the Cruise Critic boards knows that they have some serious issues with children, tipping, on board dress codes, and people from a certain Caribbean island that get deals on cruises and then take over the whole ship. And God forbid you think about maybe bringing some of your own water or soda on board!! :lmao: Really, CC has some of the most outrageous people on it. You just have to take the good with the bad. I always feel sorry for newbies over there.

At least at DIS, no one expects you to leave your children at home when you go to Disney. princess:

When the "entertainment factor" expires on the baby monitor, start a thread about "walkie talkies" and another about irons. Those always require flame suits. ;)

Oh and when that gets old, ask if you can bring your coffee maker or possibly a crockpot. That really gets 'em riled up. Tell them you like home made appetizers and are planning to bring your crockpot with you! :stir:

They'll :furious:

I guess I am a bad parent as far as people on that message board are concerned because DD11 went all over the cruise ship by herself over Christmas -- even to get me refills of Diet Coke. :teeth:

As far as your question on baby monitors they should work fine. We have used the little walkie talkie things on several cruises.
I agree, I must be a bad one too...I feel it is a shame that I (or others) cannot comment on things that I might be able to offer advice on, because I feel that people will flame, or criticize on something that is NONE of their business anyways!!!

So did my 9 year old (accompanied by her 9 year old friend) on our last Disney cruise. We had no worried on that ship, she was usually in the Oceaneers Lab and carried a radio so we always knew where she was - however I don't know if I'd be that comfortable on a different cruise line.

To the OP - don't worry about it. There are always people lingering on boards that are just waiting for something they can twist, turn and run in the opposite direction with. It amazes me how many "perfect" parents exist in the world!
