A Vacation From My Problems (A Sept. 2010 Trip Report) - COMPLETED 12/14

I have to agree with Scotty. The Peoplemover is one of the absolute b-e-s-t best rides!! We all love it.

I also have to agree with you that Chip and Dale are one of the best character interactions in the entire World! I don't think we have ever had a bad experience with them.

That last picture is super sweet. That's one you'll have to keep as a souvenir to look at when your daughter is driving you nuts so that you remember she can be sweet and appreciative. (I have a few of those in my world)

Upon exiting Cosmic Ray's, a light drizzle started to fall. We all wanted another crack at Buzz Lightyear, so we jogged over for Fast Passes. At this point, the rain started to get a little heavier. This made it a perfect time to see the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor again. Thank goodness the kids were ok with that.
Almost verbatim from my last trip. We were coming from Adventureland, seeking shelter in Buzz, but it was a 45 minute wait, so we went to the laugh floor. Really, how hard would it be to put a retractable roof on the Magic Kingdom?:confused3

Unfortunately, I still didn't get to be "That Guy". Maybe next time.
Oh, Mark, you'll always be "That Guy" to me. :rotfl2:

Dave rode with me and scored a modest 20,000 or so. Once again, I complimented him on his accuracy, even though there were no statistics to back it up this time.
Nice Job, Space Ranger!

Somehow, Julie found us in that crowd.
Couldn't have been the bright yellow shirt, could it?

Ah, Dole Whip. I have been, and always shall be your friend.
mmmmmmmm........

I still maintain that Chip and Dale are 2 of the best characters for interaction. They were all over Scotty's Naked Chip and Dale dolls--grabbing them, playing with them, pointing at each other, etc. They played up amusement at having dolls that looked just like them. As you can see, Scotty hated it.
That's awesome!

Julie did a great job with this shot:

I'll co-sign that bill.

:cloud9: :thumbsup2

It's probably safe to say that people don't look at these pictures just to see my dashing figure.
Oh, you caught on to that, huh. Sorry...

I was sure we'd see an update when I was either busy or at lunch. I missed all the softball tossed quotes, but I think Barry and I still have points coming for bringing up quotes from Big Daddy earlier this morning... :rolleyes1

Did Barry do some photographic modifications for the pictures in this update as well? I was scrutinizing the sky in a couple of them and it looks like he did a good job.:thumbsup2

Can you believe it? A castle, right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom! Has anyone ever seen this before? We figured it must be another one of those hidden gems Disney is so famous for. We felt fortunate to have discovered it on our own.
 Really??? Where??? What is the world coming to? You might as well just tell me they have flying elephants too.:sad2:

David declared this to be his "favorite" ride, along with Test Track and Mission: Space. I consider this a success.
That's great news! Maybe he'll be the one dragging you on all the rides you don't want to do next time instead of Sarah!

Scotty was in Peoplemover Heaven, where they never stop paging Mr. Tom Morrow.
:confused3 There are worse things to have as a favorite ride *cough*ellensenergyadventure*cough* I can't think of a much more enjoyable thing to do on a rainy afternoon than take a leisurely ride around Tomorrowland. Maybe one of these days Mr. Tom Morrow will finally answer the page.

Julie caught this one of me and Sarah, and while it's a little out of focus, it's one of my favorites from the trip. I can only hope she's still looking at me like this as she grows up:
There were some really good pictures in this update, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that one leaves you speechless.

Coming Up Next: Dinner and a show at Tony's. And do we really have to go home tomorrow? Already?
Well, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay at POR.;)
I'm not ready for it to end... you'll just have to go back for the DIS Dad's meet so you can continue right into a new TR.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

+1 :thumbsup2

Toy Story.

+1 :thumbsup2

But this was actually a couple of quotes rolled into one. :scratchin

A lot thinner = Star Wars Episode IV

+1 :thumbsup2

Caddyshack

+1 :thumbsup2

heavy stuff not coming down for another couple of hours = Caddyshack

Just missed! Man, this is an exciting battle for first place!

squished like a grape = Willie Wonka

Ooh, nice try. But it's incorrect.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

+1 :thumbsup2

I logged in 10 minutes after you update and recognized the Deathly Hallows quote and somebody beat me to it!! Oh well. Still enjoying the TR can't wait till May when I can make my own memories!!

Thanks for reading! We all know there's far more enjoyment to be found in the stellar travel writing found in this TR than there is in stupid ol' movie quotes anyway. :rolleyes1

Squished, just like a grape - Karate Kid

+1 :thumbsup2

That's it! You stole one from Glenn there, which I'm sure makes it extra valuable toyou.

We were all going to be a lot thinner - Han Solo in Star Wars (the original) A New Hope

Glenn beat you to that one, though.

Star Trek III

I have been, and always shall be your friend - Star Trek II Wrath of Khan

You're both right!

+1 :thumbsup2 to both of you. I would also have accepted another movie in the series.

How sad that your trip is nearly over! But I think your afternoon at the MK sounds like you managed to enjoy this last day very much! My favourite is the TTA-coaster picture, looks like the kids had lots of fun. :goodvibes

And how wonderful that Dave conquered quite a few of the thrill rides and loves them now, he really was quite scared of everything in the beginning if I remember correctly?

Did Barry do some photographic modifications for the pictures in this update as well? I was scrutinizing the sky in a couple of them and it looks like he did a good job.:thumbsup2

He did a great job, didn't he? Now to find that other picture he did for me....

 Really??? Where??? What is the world coming to? You might as well just tell me they have flying elephants too.:sad2:

:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

There's a castle in the hub?? Right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom?! I dunno, I always thought the Tiki Room was the main attraction there. :confused3

TTA. 4 or 44 or 104; it just rocks. Nice shutter speed action. :thumbsup2

I had a similar squish-a-thon in Sept. Glad you only felt like a grape. Recycling exhaled air just really bites.

Laugh Floor IS a keeper- they've really done a bang up job on that one, IMHO.

Great update! Hey, I see that dorky guy in the yellow t-shirt in the naked Chip and Dale pictures too. Looking at that picture of you and your daughter, a speck of dust or something got in my eye. That's a keeper.

Good eyes! We had just exited the Emporium and saw Chip & Dale fooling around with Scotty, so we decided to hang around and watch.

You know, my allergies bother me sometimes when I see that picture too. Sometimes I wonder if people are spraying irritants into the air. I remember suspecting that in the theater at the end of Toy Story 3.

I have to agree with Scotty. The Peoplemover is one of the absolute b-e-s-t best rides!! We all love it.

I always liked the Peoplemover as a kid (ok, as an adult, too). It's a great place to rest and soak in the views of the park. I love the teasing glimpse of Space Mountain. And the electromagnetic motors appeal to my nerdy side, too.

And I'm glad you liked the picture. I can't believe you would think my kids would ever drive me nuts, though.

Now there's an idea. I always thought Disney would at least have worked out a contract with The Weather Channel to keep storms away from SW Orlando.

Oh, Mark, you'll always be "That Guy" to me. :rotfl2:

Well...um...this is awkward.

Couldn't have been the bright yellow shirt, could it?

Are you mocking me, Mr. Rafiki?

Oh, you caught on to that, huh. Sorry...

That's ok. I don't need to impress anybody now that Julie's stuck with me.

I was sure we'd see an update when I was either busy or at lunch. I missed all the softball tossed quotes, but I think Barry and I still have points coming for bringing up quotes from Big Daddy earlier this morning... :rolleyes1

Softballs?! Do you know how hard I work at incorporating these quotes into the story? This is a complicated process that takes several minutes of effort.

Did Barry do some photographic modifications for the pictures in this update as well? I was scrutinizing the sky in a couple of them and it looks like he did a good job.:thumbsup2

He did! Both castle pictures had the stupid crane in them. Barry made it disappear. I was especially impressed with the one with the storm clouds--I don't think that was easy at all. Don't underestimate the talent at FreezinRafiki's Ace Rendering Technology.

 Really??? Where??? What is the world coming to? You might as well just tell me they have flying elephants too.:sad2:

Oh, come on. Don't be ridiculous. I'll be done seein' just about everything when I see an elephant fly.

That's great news! Maybe he'll be the one dragging you on all the rides you don't want to do next time instead of Sarah!

Or they can go together, by themselves! :thumbsup2

:confused3 There are worse things to have as a favorite ride *cough*ellensenergyadventure*cough* I can't think of a much more enjoyable thing to do on a rainy afternoon than take a leisurely ride around Tomorrowland.

Agreed.

There were some really good pictures in this update, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and that one leaves you speechless.

Thanks, Andy. All credit to my wife.

I'm not ready for it to end... you'll just have to go back for the DIS Dad's meet so you can continue right into a new TR.

It's killing me that I can't go and hang out with everyone. Someday, I want to see the parks decked out for Christmas.

But we also want to see the rest of the country, too. And then there's that matter of cost, especially with a state government salary... :confused3

Softballs?! Do you know how hard I work at incorporating these quotes into the story?
Sorry... beachballs.

Or they can go together, by themselves! :thumbsup2
It isn't any fun if you can't terrorize Dad though.

Thanks, Andy. All credit to my wife.
Mrs. Knowitall has you trained well. Probably the smartest thing you've said in this entire trip report.

I know what you mean... money doesn't grow on trees and there's only so many days of vacation to use each year. Unfortunately, they can't all be used for fun and games. I'm trying to make something work for next December though. I really want to see Christmas, Disney style.

As Julie and Scotty wandered, they suddenly stopped cold. Scotty was immediately entranced: Naked Chip and Dale were here.

:lmao: "Naked Chip and Dale" They are too cute!! They really do ham it up :goodvibes

That is a great picture :thumbsup2 I love how he has the stuffed animals camera ready too!!

It was nearing the end of the day. We had reservations at Tony's Town Square Restaurant, so we hung around the area, wandering through stores and taking pictures. Julie caught this one of me and Sarah, and while it's a little out of focus, it's one of my favorites from the trip. I can only hope she's still looking at me like this as she grows up:

IMG_5777.JPG

This is a great candid moment, that is one to frame and keep, especially for the looming "teenage girl" years where we are pretty much all too cool for our parents :goodvibes

Are you mocking me, Mr. Rafiki?
Either this is a movie quote, or an actual question.
a. Movie Quote
My research shows this line is in several movies, including Maverick, Just Married, and Talladega Nights. If it were me, I would have gone with something a bit more Disneyish, such as "You're mocking me, aren't you?"
b. An actual question
Yes. Yes I am.

He did! Both castle pictures had the stupid crane in them. Barry made it disappear.
Let's see David Copperfield try that!
I was especially impressed with the one with the storm clouds--I don't think that was easy at all. Don't underestimate the talent at FreezinRafiki's Ace Rendering Technology.
 Aww, gee thanks!

Yes, he was nervous on almost every ride. He's always been very cautious, and I'm glad he pushed himself. Once he experiences something, he settles into his comfort zone, and the enthusiasm comes out.

And I'm sad it's almost over, too. I hate it when vacations come to an end, and I hate it when re-living them comes to an end as well.

I know the answer has already been posted but I love this line.

Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: Search for Spock

Good job!

Oh! Spotted another one! From Star Wars: A New Hope spoken by Han Solo

Now you're getting into the spirit of things. Soon you'll be ignoring the TR completely! :thumbsup2

He did a great job, didn't he? Now to find that other picture he did for me....

And I was nice to you in this installment, too.

There's a castle in the hub?? Right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom?! I dunno, I always thought the Tiki Room was the main attraction there. :confused3

Seriously. Every time I talk to someone about Disney, it's Tiki Room this, and Country Bear Jamboree that. They jump back in shock when I tell them there's actually a castle there.

Um...Dumbo?

+1 :thumbsup2

Wow! How did you come up with that one?

My research says "Blade: Trinity" and "Anchorman"

I've never seen Blade: Trinity, but I did confirm Anchorman.

+1 :thumbsup2

It isn't any fun if you can't terrorize Dad though.

If it was my Dad, or some other kids and their Dad, I would wholeheartedly agree.

Mrs. Knowitall has you trained well. Probably the smartest thing you've said in this entire trip report.

I'm going to bask in this one for a moment. It's not often anything I say is characterized as "smart".

I am so smart! I am so smart! S-M-R-T! I mean, S-M-A-R-T!

I know what you mean... money doesn't grow on trees and there's only so many days of vacation to use each year. Unfortunately, they can't all be used for fun and games. I'm trying to make something work for next December though. I really want to see Christmas, Disney style.

I hope you get there. For one thing, it would be an awesome trip for you and your family. And also, I'd get to make fun of your TR afterwards. :cool1:

That is a great picture :thumbsup2 I love how he has the stuffed animals camera ready too!!

This is a great candid moment, that is one to frame and keep, especially for the looming "teenage girl" years where we are pretty much all too cool for our parents :goodvibes

:thanks:

I grew up as one of three boys, so I have never actually had any experience with the psyche of the teenage girl. Frankly, it petrifies me. Any helpful hints?

Either this is a movie quote, or an actual question.

b. An actual question
Yes. Yes I am.

What if I replaced the word "Rafiki" with "Gambini"? I'll give you a point for the research anyway.

Let's see David Copperfield try that!

The Disney crane is every bit as impressive as the Statue of Liberty. I saw a special on how he did that, incidentally.
