A two Bedroom vs 2 studios?

Hi everyone! I plan on taking my parents and younger siblings to WDW next year and of course, want to start planning from now. LOL! :D There will be 6 adults and 1 child. Am I better off trying to get a 2 bedroom or two studios? I would think that the 2 bedroom would work best BUT didn't know if I would find one available...which leads me to my NEXT question: we typically go the first week of May every year and usually stay in a studio or 1 bedroom...would a 2 bedroom be tough to book at that time? I'd like to stay at the BWV or the BCV--anyone have any thoughts or experiences? We own at VB so we are working with the 7 month window...THANK YOU!

If you get a 2 bedroom:

a) In the master bedroom? and if so, where does that put you?
b) In the 2nd bedroom with the other couple and the one child?
c) On the sofa bed in the family room area?

If 2 Studios?

Either you or your parents would have to share a studio and a single bathroom with the other 3 people.

Is a GV or 3 studios out of the question, either that or 1 one bedroom and 2 studios or a two bedroom and 1 studio. I just would not want to share a room with my parents or my siblings.

IMHO, a 2 bedroom would not be hard to book at the 7 month window for the first week of May.

I'd recommend the 2 bedroom so that you have the kitchen.

I'm sure you could figure out satisfactory sleeping arrangements. A GV would be wonderful, but the points required would be quite steep!

Best wishes -

Personally, I'd go for the 2 bedroom due to the kitchen and laundry facilities...not to mention more space to hang out. However, that kind of depends on how old/what sex your siblings are and where you would want your own child to sleep.

If it were me, DH and I would keep the master with my child on an aerobed in the room with us. The grandparents could have the other room, and the siblings sharing the sofa (or one on the extra bed in the 2nd bedroom). Sounds a little tight to me. I'd opt for an extra studio for the grandparents! :)

We're planning on a GV (or a 2BR + studio) for next May for our family of 5 plus my sister, BIL, toddler neice, mom & stepdad (10 total). I can't imagine making do with less space.

FWIW, I don't think a 2BR would be any more difficult than a studio or 1BR. BWV has more total rooms, so at 7 months your chances are better there than BCV.

I think the first thing you should look at is points. How many points do you have to work with, and how many points two studios would be as compared to a 2BR.

Keep in mind there are no Grand Villas at BCV, but for what they charge points wise for them, I don't believe they are a great use of points, unless it is absolutely necessary.

A standard studio at Boardwalk for that time frame is 107pts for 7 nights. A preferred view studio at Boardwalk would be 123pts for 7 nights, which would be the same point value at BCV.

Now... a 2BR would be 314pts at BCV, and at Boardwalk the standard view would be 286pts, and preferred would be 314pts.

So...in reality you could end up with 3 studios at BCV or 3 preferred view studios at BWV for 369pts for the week. The standard view studios at BWV could be had for 321, which is only 7 pts more than a 2BR. If you're not worried about having a kitchen, then you could split up the adults two each in a studio. The studios do have a microwave, wet-bar, and mini fridge as well, so you could store some food items or drinks in them.

Keep in mind though, the studios are like being in a regular resort room, size-wise.

Hope this helps.

Brian - Good thoughts. However, the OP said she will be booking at the 7 month window. Chances of getting standard view anything at 7 months (even in May) are not good. I would venture to say that getting 3 standard view studios would be very, very unlikely. Even a standard view 2 bedroom would most likely require time on the waitlist (which may or may not come through). Anyway, I don't think it is wise to plan on getting the lower cost rooms.

Again, JMHO, but I think she has a good chance of getting preferred views at BWV or rooms at the BCV at the 7 month window.

studios go faster than 2-bedrooms - you should be able to get a 2-bedrooms some where on property.

or as you said 3-studios - but these would be harder to get - if you can't get them all at BCV - would you consider some of your party staying at BWV?

if so tell MS when you try to make the reservation.

Carol,

I totally agree with you. Just on the chance that she might be able to I put them out there, but even the point value for 3 preferred view studios makes more sense in the long run than doing the 2BR + studio, or a Grand Villa.

WoW! Thank you everyone for all your input! I didn't expect this many responses but now I have so much information that my head is spinning! So much to consider! LOL! Well, it will be myself, DH and our DS (who will be 3), plus my parents and my little brother (15--no so little) and little sister (25--not so little either! ;) ). I love the idea of a 2 bedroom or larger because of the kitchen--yet Brian's suggestion for 3 separate studios sounds great too!

We have traveled during the first week of May to the BWV for the past 3 years and I have never had a problem getting studios or the one bedroom. I didn't know that 2 bedrooms were in LESS demand-- I thought that it would be the opposite in fact!

I want to thank everyone for responding! What I need to do now is poll my family and see what THEY want too! Maybe they would love the idea of splitting off into studios. Or maybe not--lucky for me I have very easygoing family members and a wonderful DH would do anything, as long as we were at WDW. Thanks again!!

I'm taking my parents and younger brother with us (myself and two young daughters, hubby has to stay back and work) in July. We opted for two studios instead of the two bedroom at BCV.

1 - We won't use the kitchen, the kitchenettes will work fine for us for breakfast and snacks, maybe a quick and easy lunch.

2 - It gives us our own personal space in case my youngest who is a little 'strong-willed" needs some time out away from everyone else.

3 - My Mom can come over with us if need be since my dad is quite good at snoring.

4 - LESS POINTS!!!

It just made sense.

Since my brother hasn't been in awhile to WDW this trip will be alot of park touring. The studios will be just fine for sleeping. :)

Now, when we try to go to VB and HH next summer I think the two bedroom will be a must.

With six adults I think your best bet would be a two bedroom in OKW. As you describe it you, your husband and your little one could share the master bedroom. Your parents and one sib could share the other bedroom and the other sib could use the couch.

Six adults in a BCV, BWV, VWL or SSR 2 bedroom just seems like a tight fit to me. At least with OKW you could be sure the second bedroom had two Queen beds and you could ask for a unit with a lock-off. Plus, and I'm sure Richyams will support me on this one, the unit is huge. Also you probably could add another studio just to make sure everyone is comfortable.

A two bedroom at OKW would cost you 263 points. Adding another studio at OKW would be another 98 points for a total of 361 points...you get all the space, the full kitchen and the ability to separate from the group. Actually I'd give your family the two bedroom and hie my little family to the extra studio.

Another possibility is to start and end with a 2 bedroom and add on a studio for the middle non-weekend days.
