So...do you only eat turkey at Thanksgiving or do you eat it all year round?

I was watching the Today show yesterday and they had a segment on cooking turkey. The host said something along the lines of, "Since most people only eat turkey at this time of year, cooking one can be very intimidating."

I thought that was weird because we eat turkey once every couple of months or so--usually when I find one on sale.

I only cook it once or twice a year, and it is usually around the holidays. I do order it sometimes throughout the year when I am eating out though.

We eat it throughout the year. We also eat pumpkin pie on a continual basis, too.

I might make one if I am in "the mood" but usually it is just too much food.

I do not find cooking a turkey intimidating. ;)

Now we do eat Pumpkin Pie throughout the year, since it is a good vitamin source.:thumbsup2

I make a turkey breast once or twice during the year, but never a whole turkey. As far as the thanksgiving pies, we never have those either, only during Thanksgiving.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I don't make many of the things I make during Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years. I don't know why not, I just never do.

we only bake a turkey on thanksgiving
the rest of the year we drop it in the Fryer

its a typical game day snack...as the boys like to play with fire when watching football

Only on Thanksgiving. I might buy deli turkey slices for sandwiches once or twice a year too. Obviously we're not into turkey :rotfl: but on TG we must have one!

We always make a turkey for the Superbowl, regardless of who is playing. Then usually a couple times during the year, we either smoke or fry a turkey.

have turkey deli slices for lunch occasionally, but other than that, just Thanksgiving

A whole turkey only on Thanksgiving. We use ground turkey or bake breasts during the rest of the year.

We eat it year round - dh & I both love the dark meat turkey, but really don't like turkey breast, so we have to cook our own turkey usually. It is often hard to find a small turkey the rest of the year though.

A whole turkey, pretty much only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. I don't like turkey and even eating it on those 2 days is pretty yucky to me lol. I always make myself a turkey sandwich instead since it doesn't taste as bad between a couple slices of bread and smothered in mayonnaise. :teeth:

However, I do have ground turkey year-round since I don't care much for ground beef. I probably have the weirdest taste buds ever lol.

I cook them throughout the fall & winter, DH loves them.

I don't do my dressing, bourbon yams etc. just more regular sides.

Growing up if my mom found a good deal on turkeys around T-Day she'd buy extra and pop a few in our deep freezer to eat later in the year. We usually baked them on our Weber grill (yum!). I think we stuck to the winter months though, I can't remember eating turkey in the summer months.

These days, since it's just DH and I, turkeys are too much food (we tried last year and we had to eat turkey two meals a day for 5 days straight to eat it before it went bad. Guess I should have frozen some of it). Anyway I'm just making a whole chicken instead. I never could tell the difference in taste between a turkey and a chicken so I don't feel I'm missing much!

We enjoy turkey all year round. We buy deli turkey meat, turkey burgers, ground turkey, I will occasionally make a turkey breast. Love Turkey!

I usually make a turkey or turkey breast once a month. I LOVE turkey! The only month I hold off is October so I can look forward to Thanksgiving.

I bake a turkey every few months. We usually just have mashed potatoes, gravy and a green vegetable unless it's a holiday. Then I save enough in the refrigerator for another meal, put some in the freezer and dice the rest for casseroles. You can also boil the bones to make great stock. It's a real budget stretcher.
