Today is the Pirate and Princess party! The humans make me try on my eye patch and said I looked just the part as ship’s cat for a bunch of cutthroat pirates. Meeoooww!

They have a slow start to the day and catch up on these trip reports with me and do some postcards (they seem to send a lot of these to people!).

We have a quick trip to the Marketplace to post the postcards and to collect a sandwich for lunch. Mikki still thinks Earl of Sandwich has found ways to speed up their line.

Our friend Jeanne arrives after lunch and we set off to the Magic Kingdom. We carry our costumes for tonight’s party and hire a locker – the first time in 20 years of visiting that my humans have used this service. There is some relief when we find the swords will get into the locker – just.

Mikki’s main object in the daylight is to take interesting pictures, so she is not allowing me to give too much detail of where we went or where I had pictures. We did ride “Pirates of the Caribbean” with hardly any wait at all. We then walked down the other side of the queuing system just to check that the chess game is still there. It is.

About 5.30pm, we go to the Rose Garden where they are just setting up the system to give wrist bands to those going to the party. Seeing the lines later, we were glad we went when we did.

Soon, it was time to change into costume. The humans looked quite scary – and I’ll save the jokes about whether that was before or after they changed into pirate costume. Oh, and I don’t really mind putting on an eye patch. I am a Disney character so getting into costume is part of the show. There were lots of other people dressed up. For one family in the locker room dad had a superb Prince Charming costume he had hired. It was a little large for him but he looked quite grand.

We were back from changing in time to see “Wishes” from the Hub. It is an incredible show – but more abut fireworks later. Mikki tried to get the special pin for the evening and we also tried lining up for some of the “treasure” but – very correctly – the cast were not releasing anything until the party started officially at 7.30.

We had taken a calculated risk by not bring coats or ponchos so were apprehensive when it started to rain as the party got under way. We knew we would want to eat so sheltered in Cosmic Ray’s while the humans ate burgers and consulted the event guide for the evening. There were to be two parades, one special firework show, “treasure” to collect (“X” marks the spot) and lots of characters to meet. As we finished, the shower was over. Yes, all that noise you were still hearing was the fountain! We headed for Toontown Fair to find Pirate Mickey and Pirate Donald.

When working properly, Mickey was in his usual room and you met Donald and Goofy as you entered the Judges’ Tent. When we got there, the lines were still short and Donald and Goofy had not arrived. We went in to see Mickey quite quickly but had to go round a second time just to see the other two (who arrived just as we went in to see Mickey). They all looked splendid.

After leaving Toontown, we found the line for Ariel too long so rode Peter Pan’s Flight. That Hook is a treacherous fellow: he even fired on a ship full of other pirates (us). My crew waved their swords at him – while keeping them inside the vehicle at all times. Moving on to Adventureland, the wait for Jack Sparrow was also very long. It seemed like time to go and wait for the fireworks. Again, we took up a good position at the Hub.

The fireworks started with some “princess” themes introduced by Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. They were beautiful and varied rather like the shows in “Wishes”. It was when Captain Hook intervened that things moved to even greater heights. Brilliant rings of colour rose from all around us. Bright light and crackle sprang from both sides of the castle. We could even feel the pressure of cannon going off (was this the compressed air that DVD from the History Channel was talking about?). As the sky filled with smoke and fire, Tinker Bell flew from the castle. Oh, am I glad nobody suggested this kitten is scared of fireworks! Somehow Disney managed to excel themselves yet again!

We went to Frontierland to catch the parade (its second run of the night of the night) close to the start. By now, some people must have been leaving so it was not crowded. The parade was also excellent. Knights on horses led it and were followed by the princesses. Then came a grand pirate ship float with Captain Jack in command. The greatest innovation for us was a human Tinker Bell. She sat on a treasure chest waving to the crowds and sprinkling pixie dust (Mikki quickly went to collect some). We have seen something similar in the Disney Studios at Disneyland Paris but never before in WDW.

After the parade, it was time to stand in line for Jack Sparrow. Everyone seemed to think he was very convincing. He agreed to a special photo with me – but he did ask Mikki whether I tasted good. Not sure I like being ship’s cat after all!

After seeing Jack, it was getting late and the park was starting to empty. This meant short lines for the other characters. We found Captain John Smith with Pocahontas and Meeko and no line. Even Ariel – who was with Eric – had only a short line. After seeing her, we could not resist some Fantasyland rides. Who wouldn’t ride Dumbo with no wait. We also rode Pooh’s ride and the Carousel – with me on Cinderella’s own horse. She wasn’t there – it was well past midnight – but we had seen and had photos with her two ugly step-sisters. Mikki pulled her sword and the look of surprise on one of the sisters’ faces was lovely.

During the evening, we have collected “treasure” at various points. There are bits of chocolate and strings of beads – blue, red and black (black pearls). The humans even both get some put over their heads by a CM.

During the afternoon and evening we rode the Buzz Lightyear ride three times. My Mikki is a bit competitive, you know. I rode with Andrew while Mikki concentrated on the “Z”s. Here are two tips. First, if you score less than Andrew’s lowest score (2600) you might be better to get a blind (like Andrew) person to fire randomly in the general direction of the targets. Second, firing at the car in front does not improve your score – but it can make you feel good depending on which family member is sitting there.:rotfl2:

awww you look really cute in your eye patch, capt jack looks cute as well;)

The party sounds like great fun
Great report again
and it is lovely to see the humans too
any photos of Pirate Mickey Goofy and Donald please

Great report and pics. The party sounded great! Did a lot of people dress up?

I liked your eye patch and was glad Captain Jack didn't eat you.

A lots of reports suggest these parties are not sold out and hence the walk ons. I would have loved to have gone to one of these parties but they are not doing them in the summer (if ever again after this spring?)

Loved your report it really looks like you all had fun.

Wonderful report ~ I love your photos. :goodvibes

The party sounds great ~ I only wish it was on at the end of March too. :sad2:

What a wonderful day and lovely pictures too. Any chance of seeing the Ariel and Eric pic? They are my favourite Disney couple and I would love to get to see them in the parks. The party sounds like it was a lot of fun, great costumes too.

Anything to oblige - the picture was taken in her Grotto but Eric is not usually there.

Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Mikki. What a lovely picture, I am very jealous!
