My 11 y.o. has 2 loose teeth. His bottom canines. One of them is very loose. I really thought he was pretty much done losing teeth and can't remember if he lost these or not. Are kids usually done losing teeth by this age? I will call the dentist later today but I was wondering if this is going to be a problem... :worried:

Don't worry Denise, it's normal.
My 11 year old son lost a tooth last month, and on his last dental visit the dr showed us his x-rays, we can expect him to lose another tooth soon- as he had a few adult teeth still under his gums.
When your son's tooth comes out- look underneath, you should see a new tooth poking through his gums.

My DD lost her last tooth a few months before she turned 12. She was at the Dentist and he said it was her last tooth and since it was very loose he just pulled it.

My soon-to-be 12 year old DD lost a canine tooth on the top yesterday. She wanted to know if the tooth fairy would bring her Jessica Simpson Lip Gloss! :rotfl:

The primary teeth (baby teeth) usually come out shortly before the underlying adult teeth erupt. In the normal eruption pattern of adult teeth, the bottom canine comes in at approx. 9-10 years, so 11 years is not considered abnormal.
Just a side note... there are 2 baby molars on bottom and 2 baby molars and a baby canine on top that are usually lost after the bottom baby canine. So, you may have up to 10 more baby teeth to lose. However, it is not uncommon for these teeth to go in a different order... so going off of the OP's information - the 11 yo is within norms. Your dentist can take x-rays and let you know exactly where your child is their oral development.

My DD11 was on the other end of the spectrum - she lost all her baby teeth very early. She was ready for braces at least two years ago.

my dd11 has lost all but 1 baby tooth, she had braces in 3rd grade for overbite, now 1 tooth has come in sideways, it looks just awful...... :confused3 :confused3 I know it means another set of braces but this time i think well try to hold off a year to do....well see .....just put her in private school and getting used to those payments. :earboy2:

Our pediatrician told me that since my daughter is a very late teether she'll lose all her baby teeth late too. She got her 1st 2 teeth at 10 months, but then no more teeth till 16 months. Now she's 19 months and just got her 11th tooth in so we still have many to go! I'm pretty happy about that though because then I won't have to worry about caring for permanent teeth as young as I thought.

Oh, and BTW, I got braces on when I was 10.5 and still had some teeth to lose then-they just weren't 'braced'. Once they fell out they took a long time to come back in so the orthodontisit had to put this springs on to push the other teeth away to let the new teeth come down. Once he did that they were on their way within a month or so. So I would say I was 11 or so when I lost the last of my baby teeth.

My 12.5 yr old just lost her last baby tooth last week.

My 11.5 year old DD has only lost 6 teeth. She does have 2 loose ones right now. She has a long ways to go.
My 6.5 year old DD has not lost any teeth yet. Not sure if she even has any loose ones.

This is almost embarassing, but I lost my last baby tooth at...19! The dentist yanked it. It was loose for years, but not super loose. I was a junior in college when the adult tooth started growing in. It was the right upper canine, FWIW. I think DS8 is following in my footsteps, he only has lost 6 teeth so far--including two (!!) he pulled out the other night (the two upper front ones, they were loose, but yikes!). He was a late teether and his baby teeth were huge--he's on "watch" from our orthodontist because there's so little space in his mouth already. Plus, the longer the adult teeth are in the gums, the stronger they'll be, so dont' consider this a bad thing. But feel free to consult your dentist for any questions--believe me, I do it all the time, as half my son's class already has retainers, as did his sister at that age.

DS13 lost his last baby tooth this past summer when the dentist "helped" it come out. He didn't get teeth until he was 10 months old. The twins got their teeth at 13 months old and have only lost 8 teeth so far, they were in second grade before they lost their first tooth. They are 10 1/2 and probably won't loose all their teeth until 8th grade or so.

Both of my DS as well as myself had our last baby teeth pulled when we were 16!

My DS is 15 and STILL has 2 baby teeth :earseek:
dentist said it's normal... especially if the teeth took long to come in as a baby (my son's did)

strong healthy gums...strong healthy teeth..
