A few weeks ago I had a pain in my back - chest high and slightly off to the right. After a day or two it felt like I'd been hit with a pipe. Two more days pass and I look in the mirror - looking for bruises and wondering who's been beating me while I sleep. Saw some red patches.
I began to worry about a staph infection. We'd had a couple cases at work and I use the health club.
I went to work Monday and called my doctor's office as soon as they opened. They could get me in at 11:30. I arrive at the Dr's office at 11:20 and am in the exam room by 11:25. Nurse looks at the red areas which have now raised into bumps, "did you have chicken pox as a kid?" She writes down shingles.
The doctor comes in. Takes one look and writes down shingles. He wants to discuss stress - I admit to some ; )
He writes a prescription for an anti-viral drug. I fill it and have enough time to have my oil changed. Within a day or so the spots begin to fade along with pain. After a week on the medication all pain is gone and the spots have healed without ever getting ugly/crusty.
Everything that could have gone right, did. I feel lucky/fortunate to have dodged the potential problems that can come from shingles. As an added benefit I got artwork from my niece in the mail because I didn't feel well.
