Has anyone ever had any problems with their tent and/or belongings being tampered with? I am flying and tenting, so won't have the luxury of a car to lock things in.

I know this topic has been discussed here before, and that there have been incidents of theft at the Fort. But, in today' society crime can and does happen anywhere.

Personally, I have never had a problem with anything be taken from my campsite, and we do not lock anything up. Truthfully, we have gotten a little careless with this e.g. the DD's leaving their i-pods and cell phones out to charge while we are away from the campsite. But, we have never had a problem.

I know Rhonda has an interesting story about her cooler being stolen and showing up in the canal.

It can happen, this is the real world in the end (as much as we try to make it not be when we're there). Chances are very slim that you'll have any problems, but I would still take precautions, just don't leave anything laying around in the open, if you have a car use it as a safe.

In 30 years we've never once had anything stolen, but like I said, it's doesn't mean it can't happen.

Other than the 4-legged thieves, the only things we've had tampered with was our Mickey lamp. A man in the site across from us, unplugged it one night. It was on a timer to go off at 10:00 but apparently he didn't like it being on that late. After that, DH then set it to go off at 9:00 so we would be considered considerate neighbors :sad2:

Wow, I can't beleive someone walked over and turned off your lamp post! :rotfl: Crazy!

How Rude!!

I planned on taking precautions, but was worried about people slashing into my tent if it is locked up. I feel safe because it is Disney, but at the same time I know that even thieves visit the happiest place on earth. Just was wondering if I should be extra concerned about anything. Thanks.

I guess my advice would be to not leave anything that you are not willing to lose. It's sad to have to think that way, but true. :sad2:

Does anyone know if your things are stolen while on vacation would it be covered under your home owners insurance.

We were there for 9 nights tent camping in Oct.
Not one single prob, never "locked" the tent.
Did put the important stuff locked up.. ipods, laptop etc in the SUV when not at site.

We camp alot and have never had an issue anywhere.

I have flown and tent camped and have never had a problem. One of my luggage items was a plastic footlocker and I brought a lock with me so I could lock my laptop up while I was out at the parks inside the footlocker, and also had a long cable (it was basically a dog tether line) and another lock and ran that cable out a vent in the tent and locked the footlocker to a tree.

My first flying tent camping trip I did lock up my tent with a small lock in the zipper pulls, but that proved more troublesome than worth it. If somebody needed my clothes and linens that badly, so be it.

My goodness, the nerve of some people, we were walking to out tt one night it was 8:20 ( ya we looked at our watch ) and some man screamed out at a bunch of us " there's people trying to sleep here ! " even though we were in a group it still embarrassed me, so from that night forward we used our whisper voices at night...hehe

Ok, back on topic :

I've had a thing or two stolen at other campgrounds thoughout my years but never at the fort, out of sight out of mind, if you know what I mean.

I've never had any problems in all of our camping trips be it Disney or not.

The best bet is to make sure you keep the important stuff in your car when you are not at the site. I personally like to put little locks on my tent zippers. I know they are troublesome ....but that's the point. It's not a quick in/out of your tent.

For the most part, everyone is in the same situation.

That's what I'm worried about -- I won't have a car with me to lock my stuff up in. Other than my souvenirs, I won't have anything with me that I can't live without if it gets stolen. Will FW hold my purchases with bell services until the end of vacation?

Yep, you can have your purchases delivered directly to the Fort from where you bought them, (or have them shipped home), then just before you are about to leave go to Meadows Trading Post to pick them up. It takes about 24-36 hours for stuff to get from the shops to Meadows Trading post so do your shopping early in the trip.

I've camped and back packed for 50 years and have never had a problem ANYWHERE with anything being stolen.

That was rude of that man to say that! Quiet hours at FtW are from 11pm to 7am. If they retire that early.... they need to get a motor home to shut out some of the noise! It is a family campground, and excited kids (and adults) return from the parks as late as 2am!! You were very kind and considerate, Terri!

I've also never had any problems, but I don't put out a neon sign at the front of our site saying "60 inch HDTV on picnic table outside and we're gone till midnight" :lmao:

We've had coolers stolen from sites in the campground we're seasonal in..it's usually just kids looking for beer.

Curious...do they have a safe available for use at the check in area?

If I remember correctly, I do believe there is a safe at the check in area that you can check in valuables at (obviously limited I would guess). I think in the other "security" posts people have talked about using it.

You calling us kids? haha, j/k ;)
