A Tale of [family madness in] Two Cities - Final Thoughts & PTR Link!

Brook Prayers being said for the sale of your house. I hope that you get an offer soon. Yay for following your dreams. I know how Joe feels, I only have been driving for about 5mo. Before that I relied on people for everything and so did my girls. SO sorry about the DVC:sad2: Disney will still be there and you guys will have a great time no matter where you stay.

Brooke -

I was several updates behind, but now I am all caught up and loved every minute of it - the pictures, the commentary, the foot picture, Henry's cute comments about Mickey's house and butterflies.

MK looks extraordinarily crowded but you seemed to find your grove and make efficient use of your time there. I think the wheelchair definately helped. I was cracking up of the stares you captured in that one picture with you in the chair. The..."hmmmmmm.....What is SHE doing in that chair?" look you got from several people in the crowd.

I think you are doing a fantastic job being the fearless leader. That's a lot of pressure when the parks are so crowded. Anyway - great job! I'm so glad you got to see the parade. That was really nice!

:rotfl: Glad I didn't notice the stares at the time! We all felt a little bad about me riding in it, but my MIL insisted that I stay PUT and just be "the injured one" for a while. I knew though, we weren't doing anything wrong. FIL truly needs the wheelchair, and he just needed to walk a bit. Once we got to Tomorrowland he was more than ready to sit though!

It was a lot of pressure and work being the Tour Guide. I was DONE with it by the end of our trip....but, it was also fun to show the magic and wonder of Disney to the family!

Great update!

CHH looks so good! I really need to try that tuna fish sandwich!

I am glad you enjoyed the HOP I haven't seen it since it was refurbed

Great parade pictures! That parade is my favorite Disney parade!

Henry looks so cute with the mickey ice cream :cutie:

CHH is GREAT! That tuna fish sandwich is very, very tasty. The bread they pair it with is awesome!

I can see why that parade is your favorite! It was amazing!

Aww, how sweet of you to get these pictures just for me - two of my favorite things in the world! :thumbsup2

Gotta have a Mickey bar.
Also gotta have a couple dozen napkins.
Very cute pictures of Henry enjoying some creamy deliciousness. :)

I'm glad your family chose to give you a special surprise to stay for the parade. I'm a fan of all the parades, myself. This Christmas one is a great one. :santa:

:rotfl: You are very welcome MeMom! There is something about palm trees, isn't there? I love to spot my first palm tree every time we land in FL. :cloud9:

I am a fan of most all parades too! Too bad Joe isn't...! But that just makes them extra-special when he takes one for the team.

Wow! Great long update!

The CHH crowds are amazing! As were the Tomorrowland crowds! You are right! I was practically sweating just looking at them and contemplated crawling under that table!

Henry slept for a long time!!! How nice that he is able to sleep so long while on the go! Connor used to be able to do that, too. Once he was out, nothing woke him up!

Your wheelchair perspective photos are neat! It's a whole different view from there!

How sweet of your family to insist you stay to watch the parade! :lovestruc

Henry was too funny with the Mickey ice cream bar, and I love that he wanted more when he saw the picture. Me too, Henry! Me too! :rotfl:

The crowds were nuts - it was more what I expected for that week. Thankfully we did find them bearable that day and just cruised right through them.

It is wonderful that Henry will sleep that hard and in a stroller! It has made our Disney trips much more enjoyable. He sleeps late and naps well. :thumbsup2

It truly was a different perspective from the wheelchair - which reminds me we gave Henry a disposable camera this trip - I still need to get it developed. Now his perspective will be very interesting.

I'm with you and Henry, a Mickey Bar ANYTIME is good!!!

So cute!

What a sweet thing for them to do for you!

Pure enjoyment!

Me, too! Me, too!

I love that pic of him crashed out on the bench too! He was so OUT!

Those pictures with Henry and the Mickey bar? If that's not the perfect advertisement for the ice cream, I don't know what is! It would have to end on Joe's sad face!

:lmao: I should have taken one of him frowning holding the empty Mickey Bar bag!!!!

No her's never bothered her either....but they were reddish I think.

Love the updates. That parade looks so fun. We love parades. Claire an I just watched all the video and she asked why we haven't seen that one yet. I told her to as kdad if we can go for her birthday and then we can see it! LOL! I'm with Henry, if you gave me the first bite of the bar....it's mine! We have has similar experiences wit hClaire in the past...she picks something and then one of ours looks better so she trades...then eats most of it and wants her original back then. LOL!

:rotfl2: Did Claire's question to her Dad work?! ;) I like your methods. ::yes:: Henry is in that phase of wanting whatever is on someone else's plate. Even if it's the same exact thing!

Brook, you outdid yourself! So many pictures!!! Wow! I love all off the photos of Henry and his expressions. Very sweet picture of your FIL holding him while he slept. :goodvibes
You did a good job being the "director of operations'!! :thumbsup2 It's hard when all eyes turn to you and you need to have the perfect plan of action. I had that role with our family but it was just the 4 of us and not the holidays... I'm glad they all decided you needed to stay for the parade!
Love the palm trees! It's just so inviting to see them... especially with our 2 feet of snow still on the ground here!

And that wasn't even all the pictures! We get a bit click happy!

It was exhausting being the one in charge with the family asking questions all day long! It was fun in a way, but by the end of the trip I told Joe he had to make ALL decisions, I was just along for the ride.

I felt like the family staying for the parade was their big THANK YOU to me for planning the trip! I made sure to cover things I knew they would like, and this was not one of them they particularly cared about. It was very sweet!

The palm trees are a very welcome sight for us too. We've had a week of it being in the 30's now, so the snow is melting and I'm LOVING it! We still have several feet to go, but I can see the ground in some spots! :hyper:

Ha ha!! Claire keeps us laughing--that's for sure!! :lmao: She has begun asking everyday now when we're going to HER castle and when we're going to meet Ariel!! Poor thing has no concept of time!! :rotfl: Aww--I didn't know that!! Claire is a great name!! Great minds think alike!! :goodvibes

What an incredible update!! WOW! :goodvibesI love the pics you took while sitting in the wheelchair--very cool perspective! And we love eating at CHH! YUM!! I especially enjoyed seeing all of your pics from the Christmas parade and Henry eating HIS Mickey bar!! :lmao: That is classic Disney right there! Precious! I can't wait to watch the videos with my girls later today! Thanks for posting those!! :goodvibes Oh--and we love the CoP! I tried to get Brent to take pics last time but he wanted to sit and enjoy it. My girls still sing the song, "It's a great, big, beautiful tomorrow!" Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

That is so cute about Claire asking about WDW! "Her" Castle. Love it! Henry asking about going to Mickey's almost daily as well. Doesn't help that I cannot not talk about it...

I know I will treasure those pictures of Henry and his own Mickey Bar for years to come. It was a very fun moment!! If he ever gets married in Disney I'll have to put these in a photo album for his guests to look at.

I hope you enjoyed the videos!

Your last report was fantastic, I loved all the pictures and it was great that you were able to share the parade with family. CoP is a must for us every trip, it needs an update bad, but it brings back great memories of my past trip to disney with my parents and different friends.

Once again Henry put a smile on my face, enjoying the ice cream. I am more a ice cream sandwich person so I glad you showed a picture of that also. I wish I was there now, munching on a Mickey treat.

Great news that Henry got a good report from the Dr.

I wonder if they will ever update the CoP? I think it's cheesy fabulous. In a way I hope they don't ever change it...but I suspect I'm in the minority! If they do it right, it will be great.

I haven't ever tried the ice cream sandwich at Disney! I enjoy the fact that the other one is on a stick and I don't have to touch it to eat it. I suppose though I could use the wrapper as a "handle" of sorts...hmm...we might have to remedy this next trip!

Great Trip report. Can't wait for more.

:welcome: Thank you! I promise there is MORE coming! Lots, lots more!

Brooke - just had to tell you what happened to me this afternoon. I went grocery shopping, which was right across the street from McDonalds and the coveted Shamrock Shake. After shopping, I hopped into the drive thru line, practically salivating in anticipation. As I approached the speaker, I saw it, on the sign..."Try Our Shamrock Shake"! Oh yes, I plan on it! I got to the speaker, ordered my Shake, and then...

"Sorry, we don't have shakes."
"Umm, but it's right here on your sign..."
"No shakes today."

DENIED! With no time to drive across town to the other McDonalds!

Oh well. I'll try again tomorrow. Because now I am obsessed...I NEED that Shamrock Shake!! :lmao:

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! That is horrible!!!! I would have been so upset!! The other day I was at the Mall of America and went to their McDonald's - sure enough there was the Shamrock Shake, and it was just what I was craving - but the worker was HORRIBLY rude to me, so bad I walked away. I was slightly sad missing my shake, but there was no way that guy was going to get a penny of my money! :sad2:

Anyway, I hope you were able to get one and enjoy it to the last drop! I need to get to our local one again to make up for the missed one!

Hi Brook!

Loved the last two updates! :lovestruc You're making me feel better and better about a Christmastime trip... the crowds were there but not as bad as you would think!

The parade video was wonderful and Henry with the "stolen" ice cream was just precious!

Looking forward to more, as always!

Kathy

They really weren't that bad. It was very bearable if you worked the crowds right. Our AK day was rough, but otherwise, you'll find that it wasn't as bad as I suspected. You are a pro, you guys will be fine! :goodvibes

I don't blame Henry one bit. I'd like a Mickey bar right about now too!

How I love your mega updates, Brook!

The crowds did look thick at CHH- I'm amazed at how quickly you got through the line and that there were still empty tables. Would you believe I've never eaten there? And how adorable is Henry on the bench??

Love the unique view of the pics you took from the wheelchair!

The Christmas parade is fun, isn't it?

Loving your report, as always! :)

I would love, love a Mickey Bar right now. I'm slightly stressed about the house (but trying to let it go and just TRUST that it will happen!), so I have a hankering for anything junk food. Thankfully there is NONE in the house. The closest we have is nutella.

You've gotta try CHH! It's delish! I miss their old fries though, they had the big thick fries like at the Plaza, now it's the skinny ones. But, they do serve Salt & Vinegar chips which go wonderfully with the tuna.

Ya...I think I'm going to break out the nutella soon! ;)

Hey Brook, I had to share this because when I saw it, I immediately thought of you!!:lmao: It's the shamrock shake thread on the dis! And there's a link to website called 'shamrock watch'! I'm not kidding!

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2401891

Oh my word! THIS ROCKS! :worship: Thank you for sending me the link!

HEYYYYYYYYY I am an Astoria Native! Woohoo! Born there- 29th street and 30th avenue. Lived there until I was 10 years old but I remember it like it was yesterday. Astoria is the new NY cause there is no more room in NYC! How exciting- I am going back to read now- I just saw Astoria and my heart jumped :woohoo:

YAY, Brooke, a great update ----and a very long one (I'm very impressed!)
Love the Christmas parade...the characters are so cute dressed in their winter garb!

The pictures of Henry eating that ice cream bar are precious! :goodvibes He's such a cutie!

I like doing the looooong updates. Makes it easier to think of less titles. ;) Really, we just take SO many pictures that I feel compelled to share, they end up being so long!

We'll be loving those pictures for years to come I'm sure! It was a very fun moment!

Glad Henry is feeling better! What a champion sleeper! Was it different bread at CHH?? Love the Christmas parade. Also like to see the characters "wintered up" Yummy ice cream bar! When is your next trip?

The bread at CHH is a toasted multi-grain. It's very yummy!

H is a very good napper, he's good at home and in a stroller! Which we greatly appreciate.

Our next trip is hopefully September. It was going to be early December, paired with the Podcast Cruise - but well, I'm sure you've read my recent updates on all that. :goodvibes We really liked September where it was still hot, but not too hot - and it wasn't high cold season here, so we have less of a chance of getting sick on the plane/before the trip. Plus the very last shuttle launch for NASA is September 16. We plan to see it!

This is so funny - I logged in a "sighting" for my town!! :lmao:

Me too! I love it! And I'm THRILLED to see they are now arriving in NYC! :dance3: When I lived there before there wasn't any in the City. There are two logged locations for NYC this year!

Great updates. I loved seeing the Christmas parade pictures from the day time. The only time I've seen that parade was at a MVMCP. It really makes a difference.

Do they have the floats lit up during MVMCP? I would think some details would be lost in the dark... But, it's almost like a whole different parade I'm sure!

your MK update was MASSIVE and great!

I loved the pix of Liberty Square which I....oh...gotta save that for my TR

Henry with the mickey bar...CLASSIC!

:hyper: I gotta get over to your TR soon! I've been off the DIS so much lately, in my reading you just got back! :sad2: I'm so far behind.

Thanks for all the pictures and video of the parade Brook. Love seeing that since I have no idea if I'll ever be able to talk DH into going during the holidays! :sad2:

How about early December? Then you can see it during MVMCP! And it's value season, so cheaper and low crowds! :thumbsup2 If we do NYE again (which I want to!), we'll probably arrive on the 30th, then start doing the parks on the 1st when it drastically slows down.

Arrgggg....finally I have time to catch up and I am pages behind!!:scared1: Life caught up with me and have had no time to DIS but I have been following you on facebook so I haven't been completely out of touch. So....back I go....40 pages and out of the loop.:headache:

Oh man! I hear ya though...I'm lightyears behind on all my subscriptions currently due to real life. I hope you've been able to catch up now!

Still reading....getting caught up in your adventures and loving your family :lovestruc

Having to drag myself away to tend to my own children - pick one up at dance, drop one off at volleyball, catch up on these amazing Olympic games..but I will be back to finish catching up tonight. I am on page 35 but have skimmed through alot of the comments or I would still be back on page 20 i am sure. Your TR's are so popular that there is soooo much to read.

Lots to comment on but will save it until I am caught up. :yay:

I'm looking forward to reading the comments! I'm glad to read you are enjoying it all. :goodvibes It's very fun to write and re-live it all with you!

Just joined you, but I love what I've read so far!:wizard:

:welcome: Thank you! There will be more coming!

Another great update!:thumbsup2 Henry's ice cream face was great!:goodvibes

I don't think I have had or seen a Shamrock shake in my part of the country since I was a kid. My sister and I are always on the look out for the Orange flavored one.

I googled Shamrock shake and actually saw that website where people post shake sightings! Hilarious!:rotfl:I think many people in our country have way too much time on their hands. Wait, I guess that means me, too, since I am the one who googled it!:lmao:

It was a great moment with the Mickey Bar. I love his expressions with the ice cream all over. Thankfully we had those wipes handy!

I love that Shamrock Shake sightings page! I'll be using it surely next year when we are living in NYC since they are so rare there. :rotfl: I haven't tried the Orange one...is it good?

Just wanted to say again how much I am loving your tr! Your pictures are fabulous and copious! But I think my favorite is Henry with the ice cream face. How precious!

I like your artsy shots of LS as well. :thumbsup2

How nice of the family to indulge your parade watching!! And wow! was it ever worth it!!

Thank you! I have your TR in my list as well, but haven't caught up yet - there is a lot there! :goodvibes Eventually one day, I'll have a nice big chunk of time and it WILL happen.

It was very nice of the family! I was glad they even liked it a bit!

I your little man is feeling better!! I love  how they want to cuddle so much more when they are sick. Like Mommy-meds are the best thing in the world!

Date night in Disney :cloud9:

BTMRR is my favorite MK ride--I don't do Space Mountain :lmao:

The queues at Disney are much better than any other theme park!! And the FP system--so fantastic! When we have to wait in line, at least there are things to look at and talk about at various points along the way.

The castle is just gorgeous this time of year!

I am glad Henry recovered from all the sickies!!

Mickey's house!!! :rotfl2: Now funny--my DD would be sorely disappointed. Not that she does not like the main Mouse and his Lady but she is partial to her princesses.

I hope we have your mojo with waiting in lines with DD--how nice Henry did!!

Keens! I LOVE  my Keens!! Did you find they were comfortable for you? I am planning those as my main park shoes.

love all the parade shots--so glad your family was willing to give you that magical moment! :wizard:

"more of that Mommy" how cute!! My DD asked me for ice cream this morning--at 10:45. I have a feeling that ice cream is going to be a main treat for us during our visit in blazing hot September. Gotta use up those snack credits!! :woohoo:

I am all caught up! I am really enjoying your TR!! Looking forward to your next update!!

The queues are just awesome at Disney, I agree! I cannot recall where I was - maybe it was the Mall of America, and as we were exiting a ride the cement walls were just painted. Both Joe and I instantly started talking about what Disney would have done with that wall!

I LOVE my Keens! Yes, they are EXCELLENT park shoes. I have used them every trip, and only in the past few did I purchase Crocs and they made it into the rotation. At least 2 of the trips were Keens only, and an intensive 10 day touring in Israel, they were all I wore. I love, love them! And these are now 4 years old and wear like they did one day one. :thumbsup2

I hope to get an update done very soon. I feel bad I haven't been around here much lately due to the house stuff. Now that we have some serious plans in place and research done I can get back to some DISing too!

Just joining in and already loving your TR!

:welcome: Thank you for reading!!! I will have more soon!

another new reader! just read it all this am! love it! Your little Henry is adorable. We just took our 2yo son in Dec too (just a bit earlier than you). We are going back this Dec with my MIL and FIL, so interesting to hear how you managed with your size group! can't wait to read more adventures and see your incredible photos!:thumbsup2

Your little guy is adorable! I love the pics of him in your siggy - the one of him looking into the garbage can is hilarious! So, so cute. I don't recall it from your siggy, but do you have a TR going too? If so, I will be over there and will try to catch up soon!

It was an interesting task with a child in a stroller and a wheelchair...5 adults and a toddler is a feat. But it was fun! We had a great time, exhausting but great. Are you guys going over Christmas week, or in earlier December?

Yeah for all the updates - way to go, Brook!!! :thumbsup2

We saw the HoP this time; I haven't seen it for years so it was nice to go in and see it again. I can't remember the "before" either, but I thought it looked very nice!!

I LOVED your parade pictures!! I need to stay at more parades the next time I go. I usually am with people who don't like to sit still :rotfl: so we don't often see parades or fireworks. But that one looked great!! :thumbsup2

And Henry could not be any cuter with his Mickey bar....I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to share either!! :snooty:

And WOOT WOOT :woohoo: for Shamrock Shakes!!!

The Christmas Parade was great! I think it would entertain people who aren't big on parades, there was always something moving and music, etc. It was energetic and fun!

I never want to share my ice cream either! Especially when it comes to Mickey Bars!

We still have never had the tuna from CHH, I will have to try it one day.

We really enjoyed the HOP, you are really getting to see where Bill and I sit all the time in the shows LOL. That handicap spot is Bill's favorite parade spot in Liberty Square.

Isn't it nuts how people line up that early for a parade, especially in the handicap section? What did you think of your perspective from the chair? A lot of people don't pay attention and almost run into him or pay a lot of attention and stare.

Fantastic pictures of COP, does it say no pictures at all or no flash pictures? OMG you are so right about the cheese-fabulous!! We love it.

OMG the Noodle Station was open?? Wow, I have never seen that. We are going to be there in May I wonder if it will be open then?

It is so odd for me to see Christmas parade pictures in the daytime. I am so Jealous of Henry getting to meet Grumpy!! Your pictures were great even with the sun being an issue.

"No Mine" That is too funny. I absolutely adore the ice cream pictures, they are so precious! "More of that Mommy, more of that". That boy can not be any cuter!!!

These updates are fantastic, what a wonderful family trip you had.

The tuna is delish! I think it's just done so well with the bread it's on too. Yum, yum.

I can see why that spot is Bill's favorite. It would have been an EXCELLENT spot - better than where we ended up with the sun in the way over on Main Street. Plus, it's so close to the action there. I'm going to try and remember to head that way for future parades rather than Main Street. Spectro would be awesome there I bet!

I think it says no pictures, period, otherwise I know I would have taken some of it! I think that last scene is the best. It's so cheesy! :rotfl:

YES! It was OPEN! I couldn't believe it myself. But then again, the only thing I saw closed all week was "Sounds Dangerous" over at DHS. And we can pretty much assume that attraction is a goner anyway. In addition to that, you'll find out in a future update, they even had backstage open to route guests through MK. It was nutty! I really should have taken some pictures of the Noodle Station - I just was thinking "Fill Henry's stomach, get to parade" at that moment.

Brook, are you busy stuffing yourself with shamrock shakes??? :)
There is a McDonald's about one mile from my house, but I don't go by it often, since I turn to go to school and church before I get to it. I haven't even seen a shamrock shake poster in the window yet. I should be ashamed.

:lmao: I wish I was stuffing myself with Shamrock Shakes!!!!

Have you made it over there to scope it out for the green delishishness? :goodvibes

I am embarrassed to be so very far behind again!!! I've had lots of stuff going on lately and haven't found time to be on the DIS, but I'm all caught up and hope to stay that way! :yay: Sometimes its just so much easier to do Facebook, kwim?

Thank you for your sweet comments! I am not very good at keeping caught up (obviously! :rotfl2:) but I think I will have them open it up again once I have the next few updates written out. I really do want to write it all down before I forget it.

I am loving your TR and all the wonderful pictures! David and I watched the parade videos this morning and he cried when they were over! :lmao: He is very into "Mickey parades" and was so excited to see one on the "puter!" We then saw the picture of Henry eating his Mickey bar and he said "oh, that looks good!" Too funny.

I know you said your shoes were Keens, but are Henry's Keens as well? They look really cute and comfy!

There were lots of things I wanted to comment on, but alas, I can't remember them all! I will have to go back through. :goodvibes Looking forward to more!

Oh no worries about being behind! I understand! I was pages behind on my own TR, not even to mention what I am on everyone else's TRs! It happens!

I hope you do open up your TR again! Let me know if you do! It's a job to keep up with writing a TR and managing real life sometimes, but it's wonderful to look back on. I keep meaning to print mine out (sans pictures), just to keep in a binder.

:rotfl: That is so cute about David! Smart kid, it does look good, doesn't it?!

Henry's shoes are JC Penny Clearance Rack Specials. I love JCP! I refuse to pay very much for clothes for Henry when he outgrows them so fast. He liked those shoes a LOT though, they must have been comfy!

Good luck Brooke - whatever happens and whatever you decide. :goodvibes

"I wish for you what you wish for yourself"

Thank you!!!

I'll be praying for you guys! I know that wherever God is calling you, He will provide a way. Moving is stressful, even it's only a few blocks away. Starting over completely is a massive leap of faith. I know you guys will land on your feet ready to run. Take all the time you need. We'll be here waiting.

Thanks GB - you are exactly right. We know we are called. He WILL provide in HIS good timing. It's the waiting that is frustrating. As of late, during all this with the house I have found myself saying out loud "I trust in you God!" I have to say it out loud (or sometimes almost yell it!) because I get so tired of waaaaaaaaaaaaaaiting my mind starts to go bonkers. He's got it. I know it. But can it be now, please?! :flower3:  He has begun a good work in us. He will complete it. (repeat over and over and over!)

What a wonderful update Brook!! The photo of Henry sleeping at CHH is priceless. He's so adorable. And speaking of CHH, your post sounded so good! It's definitely on the next time list. I also really enjoyed CoP. I know the scenes are sort of cheesy but it was just an awesome attraction. My kids even loved it and still sing "There's A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow...." all the time!! Great parade pictures! :)

A shamrock shake in on my agenda for this evening. Didn't we all have this exact same conversation last year at this time?! LOL!!

I hope you like CHH! We really love it. Yum, yum! I love how there is a ton of seating in there too, it's a nice quiet place away from the crowds.

I love the "Great Big Beautiful" song, Joe and I randomly sing it too! It's such a fun attraction. I hope Henry grows up to enjoy it and sing the song with us.

:rotfl: Did you get your shake??

I missed your last post!!! I'll miss you in Minnesota but you gotta do what gotta to do to be truly happy. Good luck Brook!

Thank you! I have friends who have said "Nope you can't move again!" but....they know its a good thing! :goodvibes

I was wondering what was keeping you tied up this last week.

I'm sorry that you are having to sell your DVC points, but like you said, although Deluxe is nice, it's not necessary to have a fabulous Disney vacation. And, Disney isn't going anywhere, you can always buy again in the future.

You have to do what you all feel will be the most fulfilling for the lives in your family. Good luck on the sale of your house, and on making your dreams come true!

I am a teeny bit sad about DVC. But, we know it's right. It will save us TONS right now when we need it most. And just like you said, we can always buy again in the future! :thumbsup2 Joe insists that we will!

Thank you for the well wishes! I will keep you guys posted here as time goes on. Hopefully we will soon have some exciting news to post!

What big things you have on your plate, exciting and scary all at the same time. And you seem to have such a good attitude towards the sacrifices in order to take this leap... You guys are in my prayers as you look towards this next step... it sounds like exciting things on the horizons!

Thank you! It is exciting and scary. All the things like schools that I never gave one thought to while living in NYC is now facing us. I've been a research FIEND lately! I love the internet!

The sacrifices haven't seemed all that bad in all. We desire to move more than anything, so we are pretty much at the "whatever it takes to get this baby sold!" mode!! We know things will settle down and the sacrifices today will be worth it all.

And I thought you were just stuffing yourself with Shamrock Shakes!!!

When something is your passion, you are willing to sacrifice much to take care of it. We'll be glad to let you stay at our Pop, and we're even having it newly painted and putting in new carpets and bedspreads for you! :thumbsup2 Check out the pictures on allears of the new rooms we're fixing up for you. :goodvibes

Prayers are with you for wisdom as you make the transition. We are going through a big one ourselves, and there have been tears and prayers, but hopefully dreams come true in the end.

You can ramble any time, you know. We're always here. Take care of your family first. The rest of the stuff will be there when you get to it.

And don't even think about being gone forever! It would be like losing family!

I still wish I was stuffing myself with Shamrock Shakes!

That's exactly it. Exactly. It is our passion. The sacrifices aren't much in the big picture! I have seen those pictures on Allears and was telling Joe all about them! We both want to try Pop again - our first experience wasn't exactly magical, but we know how to work it now. I'm thinking we'll have a much better stay the second time around. And I know Henry will just LOVE it with the big icons and the wonderful kiddy pool! I'm really looking forward to it! I hope it happens in September. We've been literally saving our pennies!

Thank you for the prayers. And prayers right back to you - I assume you are speaking of Trent moving, correct? That is a BIG one, for both you and him. Joe's Mom is facing the same with us moving - all her kids are still within 30 minutes of her house. Plus she has Henry...she's not exactly thrilled about the move...but she understands and supports us.

Thanks for letting me ramble here and understand! I do see you guys as wonderful friends and family. I never made too many friends here in our small town, so I miss you guys when I'm gone! And no worries, I will NOT be gone forever. No way!!! I would miss you guys too much and NEED that Disney fix.

Prayers and pixie dust coming your way! pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:

Thank you so much!

Awww, praying for you and Joe and Im sure that everything will work out in God's timing. NYC sounds great. We love to visit there. Sorry you have to sell the DVC, but at least you can still go to Disney:thumbsup2
Looking forward to hearing updates on the house and TR!

Thank you! You are exactly right - it will work out in God's timing. It's just the waiting for his timing that gets to me! I know people who have waited much longer than 2 years for things, so this is nothing. Trust and faith!

I hope to have a TR update soon, and...hopefully a great house update too! :goodvibes

Lots of prayers heading your way, Brook! I hope the family loves your house so much that they are willing to buy it at the current asking price. I hope you are able to move to NYC very soon! What a fun place for Henry to grow up.

I am sad that you are selling your DVC contract, but if it will help you realize your bigger dream than it's all for the best! Like you said, you can have a great Disney vacation at a mod or a value. Your words helped me to remember that! Thanks!

Thank you! I would LOVE to get our asking price. Man, that would be amazing. But we'll take much lower even!

My aunt doesn't understand us wanting to raise Henry in the City. But, I really truly look forward to it. Some things WILL be harder, but there are so many rich opportunities for him there. The culture, the history, the education, the people... I know people who have been born and raised there and they think it's a wonderful place to raise children. It truly can be.

I'm so glad my words helped you too! I know it couldn't be easy to give up the Grand... But, it is true. Magic is all over that property! I think we could have a good time camping out on lawn chairs at the Hippy Dippy pool! Though, I don't think Disney would like that too much...:rolleyes1

Oh Brook! How exciting and scary at the same time! Wow, you and Joe have quite a full plate right now. I'm so sorry to hear that this crappola recession has hit your area too. Man, does it ever stink! But I think it is ultra-fabulous (I remember you liked that phrase!) that you're going back to New York!:woohoo: I love love love New York:love:, I really do. But DH isn't as keen on it as me so we won't probably ever live there. But we like to visit! When we were first married, we wanted to move to NYC so badly, although we were watching 'Mad About You' a lot so maybe that had something to do with it!:lmao: I am so glad to hear that making a move like this will make life easier for Joe as well. And Henry is so cute that he'll fit in anywhere you go! I'm wishing you and your family the best. And I'm praying that God will bless your family and sell your home! Keep the faith Brook. I'm totally crossing my fingers for you too! Ugh, did that sound like valley girl 80's to you? Like it did to me, like totally!:goodvibes Take your time with your TR too, I don't mind waiting one bit! And good news that Disney will still happen for you too. Like others have said, you can still have a wonderful, magical time even if you don't stay deluxe. Take care and keep us posted!:goodvibes:goodvibes

It has hit our town so hard. I feel awful for so many families. There is a gal I know in town, her and her boyfriend have five children and he was laid off. Thankfully he was able to get something part-time elsewhere, but still! 7 people on a part-time salary! I haven't a clue how she does it. But she does. She is the coupon QUEEN! It's amazing what deals she finds! And thankfully she shares them with me.

I'm so thankful Joe likes NYC as much as I do. He's very excited about moving there and just as ready as I am - in some ways more! He looks forward to the career opportunities and having independence. He also is excited about doing something he has NEVER done! It will be life changing for him, I'm sure!

I totally didn't read your Valley Girl sentence as Valley Girl, but laughed out loud when you commented about it! :lmao: Thank you for your prayers and encouragement!!!! When you (and anyone else for that matter!) comes to NYC for a visit, we'll have to line up a meet! :yay:

I miss Mad About You, that was such a cute show! I forgot they lived in NYC - what part, do you remember? Their apartment was a bit over the top, but not nearly as unrealistic as you find in Friends or other shows!

Just caught up on your TR...a lot has gone down at your household!

I am honestly so excited sitting here reading about your dreams. I don't think people follow their dreams often enough...and yours is an exciting one! I love the city, I would like to live closer to city life than I do. And NYC is beautiful! I looove it there, I don't think you'll ever be bored living there! I believe 100% that you will find your dream home in Astoria and live happily ever after! :thumbsup2 Good luck to you guys, you're in my thoughts! Just make sure not to stress and enjoy the moments you're living right now. Ya never know what you might end up missing!

Thought and prayers are with you, Henry and Joe.

Thank you!!!

I'm so envious of what you guys are trying to do!! I so wish we could sell everything and move!! I wish you all the best luck in your adventure and truly hope it all works out for y'all, as it's intended too!

I totally understand you want Joe to have more freedom! AND I understand wanting something down to your bones. I admire your courage to go for it!!

We'll be here, waiting, for as long as it takes!!

I am :sad1: for you, though, having to sell DVC!! But Disney will be there, and buying back in will be there at some point, too, I'm sure. I've had thoughts of adding to our family lately, and Disney crossed my mind as a reason not to have another one. Harder on budgets, and we'd have to get a bigger room, etc.

And then I realized I was letting one week a year, mayber two weeks a year dictate a decision that affects my family 52 weeks a year, for the rest of our lives!

I had to adjust my priorities a bit and not let a Disney vakay influence our family's choices!

So I get it. And I wish you guys all the best.

:goodvibes

Sending prayers and thoughts y'all's way!

Thank you gelly! Ahhh, those big life decisions - isn't it crazy how Disney directs them?! Kinda funny in a way! But it's true, don't let it stop you! (and keep us posted on that possible addition! :cutie:) Besides you can always buy/rent DVC for a larger room - usually renting is just $10 a point, go in the value season and it's pretty cheap!! I am a teeny bit sad about selling DVC, but like you said, one week a year cannot dictate life decisions. It was easy to give up in light of the Dream!

Good luck with the sale of the house and realizing your dreams. You can always buy DVC again in the future, and Disney will always be there waiting for you. Sending loads of pixie dust your way...pixiedust:

Thank you!!! And exactly what you said - it will always be there. We can (and will!) buy again. I knew quitting my job would require some sacrifices, and then paired with wanting to move, but it's worth it!

Here's hoping there is lots of good news, and an exciting move, in your future!

Thank you!!! I hope for good news SOON!

I think it was Manhattan? I'm pretty sure it was. DH and I used to watch it every single week and dream of living there! We loved the variety of restaurants, shows, museums and the diverse culture. I actually just told him that if he wanted to do something special for me ever (hint, hint;)) he could take me to NY for the weekend!:woohoo: Wonder if he'll take me up on it?

Seriously though, I think your attitude is awesome. Believing that God will make it happen in His time is the perfect outlook. Your earlier quote impressed me too..He began a good work in you and will complete it.:thumbsup2 Totally agree! Keep strong and have faith that it will work out. I'll be praying for it to happen to!

A little OT, but it must have taken you forever to reply to all of us! You are a truly dedicated TR writer!:goodvibes

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. I would be sad about selling the DVC, but like others have said, Disney magic occurs in the value resorts too. And that is actually part of the reason why we haven't bought into DVC, because we always stay at a value and just can't wing the monthly cost of the DVC right now. So I can totally see that.

Even though I have never lived in NYC, I always said that I would love to live there. I have only visited once and fell in love with it. My hardest part would be getting rid of stuff, like you talked about, so good luck on that one.

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Even though we don't know the reason most times, there is a reason. And what is meant to happen will happen, as long as you are open to it happening.

So take care and feel free to ramble all you want and keep us up to date.

It is a lot of money each month unless you have DVC paid off. I'm sure we will buy it again in the future, but hopefully we will have more money saved up for a down payment to bring down those monthly out of pocket costs.

I know Henry will love the Value resorts! What child wouldn't with those huge icons? :goodvibes The one night we stayed at Pop I was really pleased with the facilities, it was so shiny and pretty. I truly look forward to staying there for a longer stay.

When I first moved to NYC I got rid of almost everything I owned. All my belongings fit into 2 suitcases and 6 boxes. I had a blow up mattress as a bed for a year! I wanted to move so bad, getting rid of stuff wasn't too bad. This time it's different because we have Henry's baby things. I can easily give away a couch, a nice coffee table or a lamp. But the rattle he played with, or his first pair of shoes? :sad1: But, we have OODLES of pictures to capture them, we don't need the stuff. I have to remind myself of all that when going through his things! And I will keep a couple things that are special. :goodvibes

I agree with you about the everything happening for a reason. There IS. It's hard not to know what those reasons are, but they are there. And I gotta stand by that!

DISsing is what happens in between REAL life, Brook. We will patiently wait- so please! take all the time you need to take care of the home sale, the finance stuff, Henry and Joe (your hands-down priorities!), and everything else that is on your plate right now. I'll be praying for this very stressful and full situation you have right now!

Liesa

Thank you! Things are starting to settle a bit with some research and number crunching done. Once we have a real offer in our hands things will move back into full swing...! I do have a lot of organizing for the garage sale to do though, we are starting to majorly PURGE our things in hopes the sale will happen this spring.

Well I was a few updates behind but all caught up now!! First off:

So glad Henry is back to normal & feeling better!!

So nice of the family to stay & watch the parade. Great pics!! I have got to get there for Christmas one of these years!!

Henry looked so cute going thru the cue lines. What a big boy!!

Love the pics of him with the ice cream bar. If someone gave me one I would not be giving it back either:)

Best of luck selling your home & making your dreams come true. We will be here & wishing you well. NY is such an exciting place!!

Tomorrow I will be off to McDonalds for my Shamrock Shake!! I did not realize they were out yet.

WDW at Christmas is wonderful! I would recommend for anyone to go during that time, it just all seems extra magical and exciting.

Thank you for the well-wishes on the home too!

Did you get your shake? :hyper:

This is very exciting! Everything will work out, I am a big believer in what is meant to be will be. The great thing is that Disney will always be there.

I am so excited for you to be back in NY. My DH and I left NY about 4 years ago, DH and I both worked in Manhattan. DH grew up in Brooklyn, and I grew up in Queens. While it was great,we needed a change, something more laid back. We do miss the food terribly, and the culture as well. I could go on for hours about NY, it was my birthplace, my home town for 32 years and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Maybe one day DH and I will move back there as Andrew gets older and has his own family. For now we are staying put though as I do not miss those winters. In saying that though, NY's winters should be a breeze for you guys compared to those MN winters, brrrr!

Sending good wishes your way for everything to work out just as you hope for! Please keep us posted as you get a chance.

Oh and I just posted some pics over on my thread from one of our family visits to MK back in 1978, if you need a good laugh! I thought you would enjoy them as I remember you found that book of old Disney pics I think? at a book store maybe?

Oh, thank you for your words! You understand the passion for NYC. :goodvibes Where in Queens did you grow up? I lived in Woodside before I moved back here to MN. We are looking at Astoria now - it's still pretty cheap, and with a short commute. :thumbsup2

The winters there do feel MUCH shorter than here - but sometimes that wind is wicked!!! I remember getting tears in my eyes a few times due to it being so cold as I was walking toward my office that was near the waterfront. But overall, it's much more bearable!!

I will make it over to your thread hopefully soon! I love the retro Disney pics - and yep, it was me with the old books! Those will be 2 books that come with me to NYC, I think they are so neat!

Wow Brook! I just finally got a chance to come read your update!

:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

I think you are doing what is best for your family! Henry will grow in leaps and bounds with all the culture and education that will be at his fingertips!!

And Joe being able to just be independent and job opportunities will be amazing for your family!!!

I think sometimes to move away from Chicago, but it is really nice to be here with all the culture and things to do so close! I do miss the country sometimes though. I am still trying to figure out what is best for our family.

That is so awesome that you are one step closer to your dream! I will be thinking and praying for you and your family! Even though we won't be meeting this December, I hope you are still coming this summer to Chicago, if not, I know our paths will cross again!:hug::hug:

And Disney magic is alive even if you have to....should I say....stay off property! :scared1: JK! Jason and I stayed off property all the times we went and our 1st stay on property wasn't until 2008!

The plans for Chicago this summer are still there, we aren't quite sure how we will pay for it - or if we are in NYC by then how it will work out, but we'll figure that out as time gets closer and we know where we are at. I'll keep you posted! I hope it does happen, I'd love to meet up with you!!!

Off property?!?! :faint: :lmao: j/k! Yes, I agree, it would exist even off-property! I hadn't even thought about that in the past, but if it's drastically cheaper, we might end up doing that even...we'll see!

Thank you for your words and well-wishes! :goodvibes

Brook, I missed your real life update so far! I so hope that everything works out the way you hope for! :goodvibes

Selling DVC must be a very hard decission, but it really sounds like the best thing to do. Your holiday plans should not dictate your real life. And moving to NYC sounds so much like the right thing to do for you and your family. I don't like driving myself and I love living in a city where I can be independent from my car. How much more freedom that must mean for someone who doesn't have the ability to drive, I can only try to understand.

When I visited NYC in 2008 I immediately fell in love with it, so I can very well understand you on that level, too.

It would be so fantastic if you could get out of that state in your life where you feel like you are on hold until the next step finally happens!!

It didn't seem like too hard of a decision when faced with keeping it, or our dream. We know Disney will be there, and DVC will be too. We can buy again. Right now, if we want to move, we need that cash - its worth it! :goodvibes

I don't like driving either! I don't like it ONE BIT! I do like our car - it's the only car I have ever liked, but I'm much rather just riding along in it. :rotfl: Many people don't understand that, they think I'm crazy for not wanting a house and a car.

I forgot you had visited! I remember you planning that trip. It's a fantastic City, isn't it? I miss is SO much! If the house doesn't sell soon, I know we'll be planning a trip out there sometime just to be there again-we haven't been back since 2008.

:hug:Good luck with the house sale, and hats off to you and Joe for having the courage to follow your dreams and build the life that is right for your family.

Thank you!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Hope all your dreams come true.

Thank you!! I hope they come true soon.

What a blessing to have a dream and a passion and a partnership w/ Joe where you can make it happen! :goodvibes:hug: I am sad about the DVC contract too, but as you said, the magic is alive everywhere at WDW and you WILL be back. Fingers crossed and prayers said that you will get everything that you're looking for. Please keep us posted!! :)

It is a HUGE blessing that Joe is just as into this as I am. It would be awful if he had no desire to move. We are both very into this and ready to do what it takes to make it happen.

I will be sure to keep you updated. I hope we will have news sometime this spring!!

Bummer about having to sell DVC but Disney will always be there. :goodvibes

Hope everything all works out for you.

And DVC will be too! :goodvibes

Prayers to you and your family. I hope you will be able to sell your house and move to your dream city soon! I'm sorry you have to sell your DVC. It is still very magical to stay in a value, just being able to go to Disney and who knows what the future holds!

Thank you! I agree - there is Disney magic at all the resorts! I do look forward to trying out a Value for a full trip - or even off property if it's drastically cheaper. I am certain we will still have a GREAT time!
