I'm not too worried about my butt sticking out an extra 6 inches in the grocery store and offending the delicate sensibilities of a former nurse who ought to know there are myriad reasons people might feel better walking in that position. I guess you must have been absent on the day they taught compassion in nursing school :confused3

:thumbsup2

:rotfl2: are you kidding??? everyone on this board has waaay too much time on their hands! if you can walk through a grocery store and not notice people, you must be wearing blinders. you wouldn't make a very good witness, that's for sure! ;)

I beg your pardon! We've all been talking about world peace and energy conservation and the end to world hunger, thankyouverymuch! ;) :rotfl: We're only interested in the serious threads!

Oh, I notice people and things, don't get me wrong. I just try not to judge. And I assume that people have a reason for doing what they are doing and if they are not bothering me, in my way, etc, I don't give how they are walking a second thought. Back to the "There But For The Grace of God Go I", my theme of the thread.

Sure I notice them. I also notice that people in this world have enough self esteem and depression issues, they don't need my help to feel any worse about themselves.

having lost weight, i tend to forget sometimes that discrimination/humiliation of those with "ample proportions" is the only acceptable form of discrimination left, then something like this reminds me. i've been in that poor person's shoes, and although i don't recall ever "draping" myself over a shopping cart, i know all too well how your look of disdain made her feel...each time it happens, it crushes your spirit just a little more, until there's nothing left. merry christmas.

I agree.

It really amazes me that discrimination (or making fun of) against overweight people is still so accepted in this day and age of p.c. :sad2:

Dawn, how lucky for you that how people carry themselves is all you have to worry about in your world. God Bless You. I hope that you never have to worry about anything worse than that.

In Dawn's defense, I do agree that there are so many more obese people than there used to be that it's an american tragedy. I don't spend time thinking about it, or judging who needs the scooter things at WDW and who doesn't, but it does seem like there are too many of them -- not all of those people are medically in need - in fact a little walk would do them good.

Wow, just wow. How judgemental are you?

I, for one, don't "witness" people's butts in the grocery store... :rotfl:

(Unless, of course, it was Orlando Bloom piloting that grocery cart in front of me... :rotfl2: .)

"I'm sorry, officer, I won't be able to identify that behind in a line up."

You know what? I don't give a damn. I don't give a damn if you are offended by my posture. Frankly I'm offended by the constant holier than thou attitude I encounter in your posts on a regular basis but I'm fairly sure you don't give a damn about that ;)

I'll chime in with why I've been known to do it. Cancers of the pelvis can give a woman a "full" feeling, sort of like being 5 months pregnant but not showing and backaches are very common. To lean over some takes the pressure off. I've spent the rest of my day trying to look and act as normal as possible. I'm not too worried about my butt sticking out an extra 6 inches in the grocery store and offending the delicate sensibilities of a former nurse who ought to know there are myriad reasons people might feel better walking in that position. actually, you are wrong, i am NOT offended, it was an observation. i wasn't pointing a finger at you and most importantly, i am not A FORMER NURSE. i am a nurse who chooses not to work. obviously someone who is infirmed has a reason for leaning on a cart but that description does not apply to all.

But how do you know who it applies to? And why does it matter, anyway? I sure wouldn't want to be the butt-police!

Since you do know it applies to some, why assume the worst of people and stand in judgement instead of just reminding yourself that the may actually have a reason that you are unaware of?

you know EVERYONE has more to worry about than other people's posture, so i am no more "lucky" than anyone else. secondly, no one is making fun of anyone.

and did you forget the serious issue of "is paris hilton good for britney?" ;)

Hold on now! For all of you who are saying that you never judge people -- are you sure you've never done that -- right here on this board --??? Because I'm thinking of something very specific.

Dawn is talking about a general pet peeve, which isn't nearly as bad as picking out someone specifically.

Are you saying that isn't important? -- I would only comment on that because :sad1: sniff, sniff - I care so darned much!!!! :rotfl:

I said that I try not to judge. I'm a very non-judgemental person. Doesn't mean that I never judge, but I can honestly say that I don't judge someone based on how they push their shopping cart.

It would be a stinky job to have, for sure. :sad2:

Now I'm not saying you, and I'm not saying who, or about who, but I think that judging an individual who is an actual person is worse than judging a mere profile of people.

I hate it when people are driving slow in the passing lane, talking on the cell phone. I hate that. I'm judging them -- they shouldn't be doing that, IMHO. I freely admil to being judgemental at times. I just try not to pick on individuals (unless they start it, of course! :rotfl: )

I can't recall ever noticing how somebody pushes their cart. Pretty strange thing to focus on IMO.

On the other hand I have noticed what people are puting into their cart. Really hard sometimes not to judge the combination of what's in the cart and who is pushing it.

mike, i am NOT focused on it. i NOTICED it. your other comment however, i do agree with. now be careful because you are bound to hear that you shouldn't look at other people's purchases. there may be a ' health reason' why they need 6 packages of oreos.

Yesterday I had in my cart bananas, whole grain bread, FF milk and 2 Hostess Chocodiles. Since I am a fatty I wonder how many people took notice of the Chocodiles and nothing else.
