I would like an “elevator access” category at HH. It seems to me that it would mean you knew what you were getting when you booked. I booked at 11 months and requested access to the elevator, and for the first time in around 7 visits with that request, we had a walk up. I was told to book a HA room, and that would guarantee the elevator, but that would effectively take a one bedroom HA out of inventory, when I do not need it. It’s my DH who has to carry the stuff, I do need to hold on when doing steps.

Our first visit to HH was on cash, we were in an elevator access building, we liked the resort and bought points. When we had a dedicated two bedroom with our family is when I learned about the lack of elevators. Our son, daughter in law and grandkids helped with the stuff and we were 8 years younger.

Anyway, they offered to switch us after two nights, but really, Tom only had to carry the stuff one more time anyway and we were settled. We declined, and for Tom’s sake I will be booking the HA if that’s what I have to do.

Do they not have a bell service or someone to at least provide assistance in moving things if you do get one of the buildings without an elevator?

I had a similar problem at HHI 3 years ago. I had requested a room in an elevator building, as I was going to be having a hip replacement soon and simply needed it. When we got there, they assigned us to a walk-up, but I inquired if indeed there was any chance they could put us in an elevator building. The CM became very irritated and begrudgingly moved us into an elevator building. It was honestly my only negative experience EVER with a HHI CM. I'm fine now after my new parts, but in the future if I had any doubt, I'd book a HA room ....... lesson learned.

I requested a first floor room with a view of the marsh. We were 2 60 yos, a 70 yo and an 80 yo. All of us in good enough shape to do a few steps. We checked in and our room was not yet ready, but it was rather obvious we were in the main building and I was a little disappointed. Just a few minutes after we left the CM followed me to our car and said she moved us to the first floor in building 27. I had heard how great the CMs at HH were, and I was impressed.

But what really impressed me was when we started to unload our wooden wagon of stuff. Out of no where about 4 CMs appeared and gathered everything up and carried it in for us. They even refused to take a tip. So even though they do not have bell services, if you request help to bring stuff into your room I am sure they would be happy to help.

Oh, Bobbi, I'm so sorry for you! And now you've got me scared for our next visit. In our previous visits we've always gotten the elevator building (most of the time we even get the same villa-an added twist to "welcome home!"), but who knows for next time.

Yes, an elevator building category would be nice.

Very nice!
Truly cannot count on it. We were checking in around 9 PM, and no one offered to help.
I booked the HA unit for our next stay.
I have not heard from DVC regarding the email I sent with my suggestion. I actually really like being in the main lodge area. If OKW can have a HH area designated, I think HH can have something similar.
