A story of renewed hope & the power of Dis

You know, Ruthie, I think I'm starting to love Maxine & I'm a pretty far cry from a horse person. Maximus is my favorite Disney Horse by a long shot and if Maxine is just as sassy....:cool1:

I have never picked up smoking and here's why: When I was in the "this looks cool and my Daddy does it" phase, my Daddy smoked straight up Pall Malls. The kind in the red pack pre-filter days. I'll tell you something, when you're a kid, trying to smoke an unfiltered Pall Mall will stop you right in your tracks. Nastiest thing I have ever had near my mouth. However, I have a sister who STILL smokes, even though she's had asthma all her life, so I understand how difficult it can be for some.

Rooting for the runner! Good luck with the muscle memory.

How sweet is this...

Kinda makes me feel bad for smoking around you during our trip!!! :grouphug:

No worries Mo... I followed you - remember? And Josh still smokes (outside only) - so if I ever want to talk to him , I have to sit in it too... No big deal - I am much less sensitive about it now than I used to be - and as long as I am outside - it really doesn't bother me at all.

I am proud of you D' it sounds like it was hard, it usually is When I quit I prayed about it gave it up for Dillon The oncologist told me there was no way of knowing what exactly we were dealing with w/him unless we did surgery and he could go on the table

I wasn't ready, he wasn't suffering, so yes I made a bargain and threw them out after we left the office I had my answered prayers.. I got more time with him Aug through Nov and he very surely told me when it was time walked around saying goodbye to everyone I will never forget it

I went immediately across the street after that in Nov and bought a pack no guilt with everything else that has happened I haven't just tossed them I will again I started when I was 16, no coughing, no shortness of breath, nothing BUT always in the back of my mind Daddy was a smoker, don't think I have one picture of him without one in his hand and died at 67 massive heart attack, his brother Uncle Joey had quad/bypass got about 10 more years out of it and died at 73 their sister my Aunt Carol a month short of 70 cancer I'll be 59 in Sept BP good all cholest #'s good should lose 20-30 lbs why push it right ? Plus I don't like it...don't think I ever have easier to just give them up like last time

A PERFECT fanny pack...did I just write that ???? :lmao: would have to have a Disney horse picture on it Maximus is my favorite he has Maxine's personality......1st day back at work, not easy glad its behind me tonight will be better :thumbsup2

Just so you know I will NOT be the reformed smoker when I meet you that is a pain in the rear, I may follow you around with a can of Febreze but I do that to myself all the time

YOu will do it Ruthie - I know you will. And LOL about the Febreeze.

Lois: Always happy when you check in sorry about the sleeping :( hope Dan is well Christmas movies in June, we've talked about this before I LOVE Christmas

Dee- I hopped right over to your ptr this morning after I got the fur-babies settled, they are settling into the "new" "old" schedule like clock work ...nice there is peace in the valley...and NO rain ...until this afternoon I'm sure

Yep-re: smoking see above that will happen very soon

OH August travelers no worries we get THIS kind of rain now, Aug you should all be fine

Yay - no rain in Disney is August - did you hear that Mother Nature? Ruthie said so... :beach:

Hi Ruth!!! OK - I can totally relate to this... Remember my "friends" post a few months back and how I was talking about BFF's dad - the one we were really close to? He smoked Pall Malls - filterless... Yup - we stole a pack from him... Smoked the whole thing... We were 12. We were really sick for days. :crazy2:

Mo-The incentive can NOT be look at the money I will save that's what I thought when the DDs were potty trained 36 & 34 years ago

I still don't see the diaper service and Pampers extra money :rotfl:

YES I said "diaper service" real honest to goodness cloth diapers delivered every week ..and had back up Pampers if truck ever was late ...General Diaper Service How is that still in my head ? I can see the truck with the little cartoon General on the side... wow this is scary the things we remember but forget something from yesterday I am starting to understand the recollections of older folks going back in time Somewhere in the future my kids are in for a real treat :rolleyes1

I prefer the Lavender/Vanilla Febreze myself The best is the seasonal ones warm sugar cookies and pumpkin scented In the fall/winter I intend to hoard a case or two of each

Ruth- YES Maxine is very much like Maximus know how he laughs & has that sarcastic sense of humor I swear this horse does too, she pouts, plays, and teases ALL the time You would love her

Hoping tonight is finding you surrounded by peacefulness & all those that feel inner peace as well.

glad your rains moved out, atleast for a little while. As for our Aug. trip, we are bringing ponchos.

I ended up buying off the rack sneakers. Maybe next time.

I had two parties:
1 after formula
2 after diapers.
we did see the savings!!! then they went to school.. all down hill from there.

Your kids will love hearing about it all!!!
Smoke... Tom usually buys my cigarettes when he goes for gas.. Found out they are 6.00 a pack. I smoke a pack a day. that makes
42 a week or
2190 a year... I must quit.. the kids are begging me too.. It's time!

Hopefully your hip settles down as the day progresses... And I agree - the sooner mr. Angel registers, the better. Enjoy a few days off... :thumbsup2

I agree - diapers sucked... Didn't have any parties at the end of any of them though... They just graduate to bigger better things - and now that we are into Ipods, Ipads, Cell phones, laptops... I'd take the cost of diapers any day. :teacher:

$6.00 per pack. Don't come to MA, If I recall the last sign I saw posted was "lowest prices in state" ..... $8.54 per pk!!!!

Yeah, when I quit 10 1/2 years ago, they were $3.80 per pk.

Some weird tax that is supposed to go to patients with smoking related diseases. Which isn't a bad idea, IF it really goes there.

Congrats to all who have succeeded in quiting. AND to all who strive to quit. It is NOT easy, but as my friend says, if it was easy everyone would do it. :) You all are strong willed, wonderful woman.... you can do it!! Or you can do it like I did......get pregnant & nauseous every time you inhale. That is the honest truth. Like morning sickness, being pregnant at 40, having 11 year old triplets wasn't enough... not my stress release was making me nauseous. Very very thankful in all honesty, but I was an ever living b#@*:) at the time. My poor loved ones.

Hi Ruthie! So glad you're off now until next week. Also glad you made it through your second night. Good for you!

I know you can do anything you set your mind to. Quitting smoking won't be easy, but neither is running a half marathon. Your DIS sisters are here to help in any way we can. When you're ready, of course. And MO, that goes for you too. Your kids will be the biggest benefactors of you quitting. You CAN do it!!!

So, Ruthie, we may be meeting quicker than we thought.:rolleyes1 Last night Dan said to book a trip for September!!! Unfortunately their system is down and I can't book right now. I'll keep you posted if I am able to book.

Hope you are sleeping right now and have a wonderful day!

HOLY COW!!! Are you kidding me? $12.25 a pack? Boy you Chicago people must be wealthy. ;) When my Gram (i think it was Gram not mom), quit she said she would take out a $5. and put it on the table. While she smoked the cig she would envision the $5. going up in flames. Then she would put the $5 away. She said that helped her. :confused3

Ruthie, So happy you have a few days off. Hope you are painfree

Yep 12.. needless to say I don't buy them in Chicago. I go to Indiana..

I need to quit!!! Did the math I would save over 2,000 a year... That's a good chunk of change

Alright enough about the cost of cigarettes get over to your own PTR/TR
to talk about it WHEN you quit you will have plenty of support from all of us

NOW isn't it time I finished the long over due saga of the weekend Fred was home ? It has waited a ridiculously long time to be told popcorn::

We were dealing with rain off and on and each time it started up again it was more forceful..If you remember a sweet CM gave me a large clear plastic bag so that backpack Pluto would stay dry but still be able to see where he was going

Our goal ...ok MY goal more than Fred's ....was to go meet Pluto and yes :sad2: Goofy because they are together ..at Dinoland so off we headed Dodging puddles and guests that apparently wanted to ride in my lap

When we got to the M & G area for them the line wasn't too long If it wasn't for one of my favorite posters Kenny (www.kennythepirate.com) I wouldn't even know Pluto was here somehow that info has alluded me for years

A picture is worth a thousand words so take a look:

It always AMAZES me how non-speaking characters can say so much
As Pluto & Goofy approached Pluto saw "himself" and went absolutely crazy !
Goofy managed to "say" this was about Pluto and actually looked dejected and walked away

This presented an absolute photo op with just Pluto .........:lmao:

What a cute picture of all of you. I remember seeing these characters in Dinoland when the girls and I stopped for icecream - they were en route to back stage, so I never did find out their M&G location. I love Kennythepirate, and I plan to use his advice extensively in August... I am counting on him to finally get Allison's M&G with the Up characters, if they haven't gotten rid of that M&G again by then (of if they haven't already).

D~

Awesome pictures with Pluto!

That meet and greet area in Dinoland is my favorite place to meet him. The line is usually not too long and there is shade. When I meet Pluto there in March, he wouldn't stop licking me the whole time!
