A story of renewed hope & the power of Dis

Chatty thread. Just managed to catch up in between Saturday morning chores.

Sounds like you and Fred are doing okay, Ruthie. :thumbsup2

I can't believe that you go so long inbetween getting to see him. That's really rough.

I'm glad he will come to our meet, that further reinforces my plan that we need two tri tips! I'm going to test one out on my grill soon.

Its too cold for me to test out cooking on the grill outside.

Looking forward to seeing the outcome.

It will be a challenge, tomorrow night. I have to use charcoal and not have a cover. I will try with indirect heat and tin foil. I bought another one tonight and was going to try tonight, but we would have eaten too late. So tomorrow I will test out the whole charcoal, no cover cooking of tri tip. I'm thinking that I will sear it for 10 minutes, 5 on each side and then move it to the other side. If we can't cook the mushrooms on the tri tip side, we'll need a second grill that is not meat tainted. Otherwise if we can clean it sufficiently, we can cook the mushrooms on the tainted side of the grill.

Am I going to lose you all to the board to discuss Criminal Minds :rotfl: ??

Having worked for 2 police depts and having a degree in Criminal Justice ..wanted to be a cop and got thisclose back in 1983 (another time for THAT saga :sad2:) I like to watch all those shows:

Law & Order (all of the series), Numbers, House, Criminal Minds, Body of Evidence, etc etc usually I shake my head and pick apart what they're doing wrong  but I still miss NYPD Blue YES Bobby was terrific eye candy  ( Jimmy Smits ...Det. Bobby Simone) but (and I think those of you who know me best) I really related to Dennis Franz....Det. Andy Sipowicz I am most like him I believe dry wit, street smarts, mixed with compassion (a marshmallow within a tough exterior aka a Brooklyn NY Girl ;))

Fran- what you say makes sense BUT this is the TSA we're talking about  I'm sure it will be fine and it sure gave us good laughs here ( me personally I would be tempted to take off the store labels and see what happens but I am a trouble maker :rotfl:)

Let us know how the cooking went !

DH and I laugh at most of the NY cop shows because of how unreal they are and how much money they spend on one case.

We do watch Criminal MInds or at least I do. DH finds it too disturbing some weeks.

I am too much of a baby... Used to LOVe, LOVE, LOVE CSI/Criminal Minds... But then I started having nightmares - only it was my family as victims... Stopped watching - haven't watched for years...

I will stick to The Middle, Last Man Standing, American Pickers, American Restoration, Pawn Stars & Kounts Cars. :) None of them give me nightmares...

I can't do the marathon... I wish I could... I know - I know - if only I could run an inch for everyone who has told me "you can do it if you just try" - I'd have run across the US by now... But due to several knee injuries that were never properly rehabilitated - I just cannot ever run. I've resorted to that fact... Maybe some day I will try again - but I live in fear of trying - because no matter how slow I go or how little the distance, I can't walk for weeks after. :(

I wish I could commit to being in your cheering section though... If I could find someone to split a room with me and share the costs, I would love to be there to cheer you past me!!! :lovestruc Mo????

I am doing other things for my health though... Just because I cannot run - does not mean that I cannot work out hard doing other things, and my overall health and well being has become a primary focus in my life. Eating better foods and foods not laden with weird stuff is somthing I try very hard to do... Some of it is unavoidable - but I do the best I can.

I've almost accomplished my first mini-goal... I wanted to finish my first round of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred before Suzi and Mo got here - I will finish it on Thursday morning (they arrive Thurs night - nothing like cutting it close)... I hope to start round 2 the Monday after they leave. Ideally - I would like to finish 3 rounds of it before our trip in August. Not really focused on the "losing weight" portion as much as I am focused on the getting healthy and building strength portion.

There is another lifting program I am looking into, I am not sure if I will begin that after we return from our trip, or if I will not do the 3rd round of the 30DS, and do the lifting instead? I will decide on that when the time comes.

I also want to start walking with the girls at least 3x per week, I'd like to start conditioning us for all the walking we will do in WDW. I know a lot of people who do this - and I feel it's a very smart thing to do. ::yes::

Thanks for being an inspiration to me Ruthie!

This thread went from Fred return home to cannibalism to grilling to marathons to working out...

My kind of mass confusion.
I will cheer on!!! I'm not running unless there is an ice cream truck with oberwise peanut butter chocilate... rofl
I have been working out too!! Everyday doing something different.. mostly Sean T work outs.. I hate him.. anything to get healthy, get this stupid thyroid back in check.. going to doctor today... Again

:rotfl: so now I fit right in with all the other reports ;) to update I think the title still fits all the planning and the doing and the hoping and the praying

I have never run an official race in my life BUT I was always a runner so I can either wallow in depression and self pity NOW (which believe me I fall into that attitude many many times a day) OR I can set a BIG goal which honestly seems impossible at this moment in time ...........we'll see

so for this PTR I will continue to update re-last weekend, then post pictures D' wanted to see part of the Pluto collection Fred & I had fun setting up, and then on to the future planning: Fred home & WDW in July and the DisMeet in Aug (D' & girls, Dee & family, anyone else ???? perhaps T- IamtheQueen in Sept our birthdays are days apart ) and the DisMeet/MNSSHP in Oct Wait until you see what I got for Fred to wear Its cute :thumbsup2 I am so excited to be planning such fun things after all the bad things that have happened

Aw D' :flower3: very nice to say..hope I can live up to it :) Working on health is the best thing to do I am seriously considering changing the way I eat too actually I am seriously thinking about going vegan after opening up my mind to it (and seeing pictures/food porn and posts from princess: PIO (PrincessinOz) who repeatedly tells us about her DH the pesky vegetarian) :rotfl: I am intrigued by the whole thing...not much of a meat eater anyway so don't think I would miss it at all.....which makes me wonder how DisneyChic2 (Lois) is doing with the lifestyle/change of habits having to go gluten free hope she tells us

Keep up the good work with all things physical...believe me I know how that goes

If you and Mo' really could I would LOVE to have you :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: now THAT would be MY inspiration :grouphug:

We used to love NYPD Blues, or even further back...what about Hillstreet Blues. I too thought Dennis Franz was a great character. I was surprised he didn't do much after that show ended. Remember the big deal about his "shower scene"? :rotfl:

Oh yeah, they have some pretty disturbing episodes. And what baffles me as it does with Stephen Kings writing....what would make one think of this kind of stuff???!!!:scared1: My DH loves American Pickers & American Restoration. We used to like Pawn Stars, but I get aggrivated with some of the characters.

Ruthie, I think it is wonderful you are aiming for the marathon. I have said time & time again, if I ever get better, I would run a marathon. DD keeps telling me we will do one of the Disney minimarathons. That would be nice. But, doesn't look promising. I would like to come cheer you on, but that just wouldn't be possible this year.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! To all who serve/served and all their loved ones who also sacrifice, THANK YOU. To all who have made the ultimate sacrifice & their love ones....Peace. And to all who's lives have been changed due to their service or their loved ones service.... Comfort. Thank you all for it is due to you all that there is so much GOOD in this country. God Bless you each.
And to those of us, who are remembering those that have passed unrelated to serving our country, I pray you are filled with warm memories that lift the soul.
As for me, tomorrow I will be celebrating DS#2's graduation from college with those I love so very much. So... off to clean.

Good for you, Ruthie. I'm going to pass. After October, it will be a long while before we head towards Orlando. :worried:

I used to run, but that was years ago. Dh and I are walking, trying to get conditioned for our trip in 3 months. I'm working my way up, just covered a mile today. I'd like to do the C25K (Couch to 5K), but it will take me a while to work my way up to it. Not sure I'd be ready for a 1/2 marathon by February. Besides, DH and I are planning a trip in either February or March, just not sure where we are going - maybe Hawaii, or Sarasota for spring training. I would like to do a 5K with my girls sometime late this year, or early next year. My oldest is heading up a Cupid's Underwear Run in Baltimore next year. Its for a children's tumor research organization. She did one in February in D.C. this year. It was the first run she did after breaking her ankle last July. Both my girls are planning to run the Baltimore 1/2 marathon this fall.

Glad you are doing better!

LOL about the running.

I could not run if my life depended on it...like the old saying goes, you don't have to run fast to get away from a bear...you only have to run as fast as the slowest person... well, I would be that slowest person!

My husband on the other hand used to run marathons all the time. While we were in Germany, he discovered Volksmarches. They are supposed to be 20K walks through the forests and around scenic areas like the castles. He and a bunch of his friends decided to run them insttead. He became so addicted that he would do at least 2 a weekend, and sometimes up to as many as 4! He loved it!

Then we came back to the states, he retired from the army, got a job sitting in a patrol car for 12 hours a day and gave up smoking! He now is a roly poly man...but can still chase a runner down beter than the smaller guys on the force...it just takes him longer to recover than it does them!

My DIL wants to do the Princess Half...been trying my best to convince her she should...

Nini I would LOVE it if she would, let her know I am needing an inspiration partner we could motivate each other from now until then

My Dad was stationed in Germany during his Army stint early 1950's and spoke about the beauty of the country many times over my lifetime He would spend his off time doing pretty much what your DH did out in the countryside soaking up the scenic views mingling with locals He loved that country

We are planning (there's that word again you know how THAT usually goes) for Fred to be home mid July not sure exact dates, think starting the 16 th

I think what I'd like to do is have us stay on property make it feel like a real vacation for DH We only live 1/2 hr away, no reason the canine crew & Maxine would even notice we aren't here we could go back & forth I don't think a tractor (no trailer) would be a problem for parking there I've seen u-haul trucks much bigger but will have to check

I stayed at POP many times since it opened and have never been disappointed Always requested and got the 50's bldg, I'm not sure I would have the same opinion of it if I had been thrown into the perceived chaos and noise of the other areas I always got the request I believe though because I had back to back to back reservations and stayed just under a month Even had the same room for the duration end room first floor right outside the pool LOVE the 50's pool

I think when staying Value this is one of the best There is a lake right behind the 50's bldg & I would start and end my day sitting on a bench and taking in often overlooked creatures when on vacation and the sunrises/sunsets to me were spectacular when not inhibited by people, buildings, or yes even the Castle I loved the quiet of it all Here's some examples:
