Twister was next on my list of things to do. I wasn't entirely sure what this attraction was, but I had heard good things about it. It's obviously based on the Twister movie which I enjoyed, so I headed in. It's a TON of preshow with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt talking both about the movie and about real tornadoes. Finally you get into the show area and they start the twister with winds blowing, fire, rain, it's pretty awesome.
I wanted to also do Disaster, but the wait was something like 50 minutes - NO THANKS! Instead, I headed to Amityville for some lunch at the Midway Grill.
I sat where I could see Jaws and the line didn't look too about - about 15 minutes - so I got in the queue after I finished eating. This is one of the things that I remember from Universal Studios Hollywood when we went there in the early 90's. It was a cute ride, but yet another one where you get sprayed by water! The "tour guide" was good at this job, so I think that made it fun.
There was an Animal Actors show at 12:45 During the opening, lots of animals run around the stage. The last animal that comes is a cat. He's supposed to run up to the top of the set and hit a lever on the sign. The poor kitty just couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be hitting. He knew that he was looking for something, but couldn't seem to find it. Finally, a trainer came out and helped him, but then he didn't want to go backstage again!
There were some cool demonstrations throughout the show, but it was mostly birds and dogs.
This bird showed everybody how he flies in front of a blue screen. They turned a fan on and it looked like he was soaring through the air when it fact he was pretty much staying in place.
One of the last animals brought out was a monkey who of course stole the show - very cute.
It was a cute show but I wish it would have been longer or had more animals/different content. It's worth the time though if you there.
ET was open, so I got in line there. It was a pretty quick queue. They ask you your name as you are getting ready to board and then give you a license which the loading Team Member scans before you get on. At the end of the ride, ET says your name...it's a very cute twist.
I wanted to do Terminator but the next show wasn't until 2:45 and it was only 1:30. Instead, I walked around and took photos. I got to the Mummy and the single rider line was open with no wait so I hopped in and took another ride - loved it again!
This guy was waiting outside the Mummy scaring people.
This thing must be used for some nighttime fireworks show?
I continued clockwise around the park with my picture taking stopping to ride MIB twice using the single rider line. This time I got to ride with other people which made it more fun. You can get higher scores I think if you are playing as a team.
My attraction of the day was Terminator 2 - 3D. Another very long preshow and the preshow room was packed. It's a combination of a live action show and a movie. They do a good job with it and don't make it seem too fake. The actors don't actually talk, it's the real actors from Terminator (Edward Furlong, Arnold, etc.) doing the voices and the actors just mouth the words and do the movements.
After Terminator I decided it was time to go. It was about 3:15 and I had done everything I wanted to do. I was tired and the walk back to the car felt like an eternity. All in all I had a good day at Universal although I don't know that I'll be rushing back anytime soon. It's just not big enough for 1 full day for each park, but it's a little too big for 2 days to be worth the money. But if I ever have the chance at free tickets again, I probably will use them.
