Here's part of this I dont get. The excuse for not returning a cart is due to having kids- and not wanting to leave them in the CAR...

Here's how I see this.

Pull in to parking spot
unload kids
walk to cart corral and get cart
go shop

NOW your return- should look like this
Unload cart
walk to cart corral and put cart away
RELOAD KIDS into car...

RIGHT? So whats the issue with having kids? If you walk to get the cart WITH your kids, why can't you walk to put the cart back WITH your kids?

I have 2 DD's who are 15 months apart, and I ALWAYS returned the cart...they just went with me to return the cart, like they did to get the cart.....having kids is really not an excuse to not return the cart is it?

Great point :) I can't wait to see the replies on this one :)

I know, I've got a full pot of coffee ready...!!!

That's it! Plus, if you always park near a return, you can be just a few steps away if you need to put the kids in the car due to weather issues.

As I said, in the other thread I put the cart away...except for Aldis! There, the cart is grabbed up like hidden treasure to save the $.25! :rotfl: It's a hoot. People walk up to the cart, look around...and then grab it, looking like the won the Powerball!

Well, I do return the cart, and I've always left the kids in the car, but then I try to park really near the cart corral instead of right near the door to make cart return easier. But, that being said, the main reason I can see (and the reason I put my kids in the car first) is that I need the space under their feet for the food! We have a minivan and the food goes beside them and along the seat under their feet (since their feet don't touch the floor). If I put the kids in the car AFTER the groceries, they'll have to step on the food! No other way to do it in my car!

Well thats not the way I do it...I unload the groceries, load my daughter into her car seat..close and LOCK the car up and then return the cart...then UNLOCK the car get in and drive home...very simple and there is NO reason that you can't either do it that way or bring your kids with you to the cart corral.....its pure laziness not to return the shopping cart to the corral!

But, but, but... there might be a hurricane! Or a blizzard! Or a tornado!

I can't have them out in that.

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner! Pure laziness is it!! You hit the nail RIGHT on the head on this one!

I never park near the cart corrals for the fact that I dont hunt for a spot. I pull into the lot and park, if it means i walk, I walk...if i happen to see one up closer, well, I leave that for the lazy folk!

Thank you!!!
I never understood why someone couldn't leave their child in the car during rainy, windy, snowy weather to return the cart. What exactly is goingt o happen to the kids in the 30 seconds it takes to return the cart????? You are right...it's pure laziness and the kids are a convenient excuse not to bother to return the cart. I hardly think the children will vaporize in that short of time

This is also my method. I can't even imagine not returning a cart. It's even worse than not RSVP'ing. :sad2:

Hey--the best thing about grocery carts and kids--when the kids are old enough to have THEM return the cart!

I neer could understand that logic. What exactly is going to happen to the kids in that few seconds?
Afraid someone is going to steal them? Lock the doors, but really, what are the chances of that happening?

It's just a lame excuse is all.

No, the kids arent' going to vaporize. But people live in fear anyway. One thing will happen, and parent's freak, and stop letting their kids use a public restroom, walk home from school, or sit in a car for 60 seconds. I really think it would be sad to live with such irrational fears, let alone subject my kids to them around the clock.

I didn't reply the first time around, but couldn't resist today. I had 3 kids under 3 years old - I always parked next to a return cart spot. That way, I was never more than 3 feet from the car. I mean, it's not rocket science!!!

As a matter of fact, now that all 3 are in school full time and I usually shop without them, I still do it out of habit.

The Publix's in Sarasota Florida have no cart corrals...they have to be brought all the way to the front on the grocery store where they are kept in and outside the store.

I pulled a Tom Sawyer on my kids. "Look at how much fun I'm having! I couldn't possibly let you push the cart back to the store!" :teeth:

and also...my husband has about 6 kids working for him who are lot attendants...they often get sent home early and don't get to work their full shifts because they don't have carts to fetch. I guess he could save on payroll, fire them all and let the public do it for free!

I unload, take the kids to the cart corral, then load them in the car. Pure saftey reasons. If I load the kids first and someone approachs me demanding my car, my kids are in there and I have a big problem. if my kids are in my arms - "here's the keys - she runs great!". I try to limit the time (as much as possible) they are in the car without me or dh driving.

But yeah, return the darn cart.

I know that there is another thread on this subject and I admit I have not read it yet BUT is this REALLY that big of an issue? If you do or you don't ...who cares?! If you don't want your car hit with loose carts PARK WAY OUT! Shop at a store like Publix that brings your groceries out for you and takes the cart with them....no tipping allowed!

Most of the year in FL and TX the car is too hot to put the kids in without turning it on and starting the ac while loading the groceries. And having them stand behind the car is not safe...even with me there with them. People are crazy in the parking lots! So you are left with a running car with your kids in it....seems the cart isnt very important after all!

Parking lots can be very dangerous places. People have all kids of places to hide. And in the hot months in FL and TX youhave people trolling the lots waiting for people to leave kids and animals in hot cars. They will approach and "watch" you...very nerve wracking.

I usually shop where I can have someone bring my groceries out...I hate working up a sweat putting it all in the car. If I don't and a corral is next to me...sure I'll put it back. But other then that...if I don't doesn't make me a bad person....I just don't care!
