A SOARIN' question????

I have a bit of a fear of heights, so I asked for the 3rd row on purpose. The CMs were fine about putting me there and it worked out great - I loved the ride and wasn't scared at all. In fact we went four times, and each time I just asked for the third row. For someone who is a bit nervous about heights, the dangling feet are actually kind of reassuring!

I too have a fear of heights but don't mind Splash Mountain or TMRR for some reason because I feel safe. & hopefully I won't offend anyone but by accident ( I swear) I found out of if I have a couple of drinks before I can ride ANYTHING :drinking1 ! My DH thinks it's hilarious but he's gotten me to ride RNRC & TOT ! But I regress since I would like to be sober when I ride this ride would I freak out ? ! I still remember that old Disney ride (I forget) that your in a moving conveyor sitting down & you see the future etc & them BAM you're in space ! I totally freaked, I actually yelled at my husband "Don't Touch Me !" at the top pf my lungs because I was so scared :rotfl2: .& then there was the SM experience in which I yelled so many profanities at my DH I was mortified ( & I rarely curse) & when the ride finished the poor CM sees this pale faced lady hyperventilating. She actually helped me off the ride, held my arm & took me outside, sat me on a bench & brought me water ! So is Soarin for the scardey cat at heart but should I have a drink before & enjoy the ride ?? :rolleyes1

The worst seats would be at the far ends of the back row since you can see the curve of the screen. I found this more distracting than dangling feet since you see the screen and then the blackness off to the side. You have to make a concious effort to look toward the center of the screen so the blackness on the side stays in your peripheral vision.

Exactly how we felt about those seats. It was hard not to keep focusing on the big black curve

honestly, i thought it was the most relaxing, calming ride i have ever been on at an amusement park. i went on 6 times in a few hour period and felt more calm with each ride. the motion isn't too much, it's not too active, and the music could put me to sleep it's so peaceful. so i don't think you need a drink. the seats are nice and big - you just sink in to them and the rest is just like floating, i really think you will love it. i just bought into DVC so i can go on soarin as much as i want!! (well, not really but it's the first thing i thought about, lol) enjoy it!!

Dh & I just came from Disney. We had the 7 day land and sea and trying to fit everything in at the Parks kept us running. My question is Dh & I did SOARIN' and loved it but only was able to do it once. We were lucky enough to get front seats on the ride....my question is, (as dumb as this is) if you are seated in the back rows is the ride just as thrilling? I thought SOARIN' was awesome. :confused3

The first time we did Soarin' we were in the second row. It was eh. The second time we did the first row and it was AMAZING! There's a definite difference. We'll only wait for the front row now!

I lo-o-ove the front row. You do see the top of the screen, but that beats all those feet - especially the swinging ones!

But, geez, Soarin' is great no matter where you sit!
:goodvibes

The sides you feel the movement a bit better. We rode it a bunch of times and one of them, I just looked at what the machinery did. Weeeeee!!!!

There really isn't a truly bad seat in the house.

I agree. :) The first time at DCA I was very nervous about this ride and I requested whichever row is the lowest, which turned out to be row 3. I probably rode the ride 15 times on that trip, and after the first 2 I think we started asking for the first row. It honestly doesn't feel that much higher because it's dark anyway, but the way the feet dangle in front of you is indeed comforting.

Do NOT let the preboarding stuff that makes it seem like a thrill ride scare you, and even worse - do not let the somewhat fast but still smooth "swooshing" up motion before the ride begins scare you (this is when your theatre seats are lifted into the sky to become your glider).

The ride is so gentle and calm and beautiful - some of the preboarding and marketing stuff is very misleading. Don't be worried! It's awesome! I won't touch RNCR, TOT or even Space Mountain, but Soarin' is probably my favorite Disney ride, period.
