A Smile in my Heart–Magical Week of Friends,Fun & Freezing-10/28-COMPLETE!

Great update! :thumbsup2 I'm glad Emily loved Everest, that's awesome! :goodvibes

I'm not sure, but those birds look just like the ones we get every spring. They nest around our house and dive bomb us everytime we walk from our front door to our car. They're nasty, mean birdies. They only stick around for a couple of months, but I have to watch my back everytime I leave my house because they try to attack me. :duck: I usually don't have a problem with birds, but those guys are EVIL!

I have to agree with you that the Imagineers did an outstanding job in Animal Kingdom. It is a stunning park and the details are amazing! I love to just wander and look at all the little touches.

And you are so not alone in your "distaste" for birds! I completely understand..no explanation necessary! ;)

Yay that Emily liked EE! And now that you've ridden, Michael can stop bugging about it....right??

i'm with you on not liking birds - they give me the willies. my friend's dad used to let their bird out of her cage when i came over just to torture me.

Glad you had a good ride on Everest and that Emily loved it! i could go for an ill-fated trek through Tibet right about now...

Well, it's unanamous. No one remembers the bird sanctuary except you Sara! LOL! I just asked Dave and he doesn't remember it either! We must have been booking it thru there! That pic of Hunter trying to open the tiger door makes me giggle. He's such a goof. Great update. :wizard: You're moving right along huh?:cheer2:

Your AK pics are great and I'm loving bouncing between your trip reports! Too fun! popcorn::

Another wonderful day! I agree with you about birds. Boy, they freak me out!

Look forward to the next update! popcorn::

Erika

Thanks Erika! Ick...birds....:scared:

The pictures of the tigers are wonderful! They are such beautiful animals :cloud9:

I hear you on the birds, there's something just a little creepy about them. Although I did do the Flights of Wonder show recently and I actually enjoyed it more than I thought. A few shrieks when the birds got close, but it was a lot of fun and really interesting! You should check it out sometime! Maybe ask a CM where is the best place to sit for someone who wants to be as far from the birds as possible. :goodvibes

Good idea! Maybe I'll just sit outside the theater! That'll work! :thumbsup2

Very nice AKL pics.

Birds whizzing by I don't mind. What comes out of them, when they just happen to be above you, I do. ;)

I find a lot of birds are mean....why is that??

Another great update! i love EE. the first time i rode it was in the dark.

I would love to ride EE in the dark! We went to EMH at AK in May from 5 -8 in hopes of riding it at night, but at that time of year it was just not dark enough by then. I bet it was a blast!

Oh sure...Michael totally stopped talking about Everest after that...:rolleyes1

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in my bird dislike!

:scared1: That's awful Sare! I would have de-friended that girl!

So when is the big day? Is it a Disney wedding?? :confused3

Great! Did I imagine it?? I know we passed the handouts for what birds we would be seeing (I thought Michelle picked one up), and no one remembers going through the chain-link door? :confused3

For some reason, I'm updating quicker. I think I must have more time on my hands at night....I used to chat a lot in the evenings, but not anymore...:sad1:

Your AK pics are great and I'm loving bouncing between your trip reports! Too fun! popcorn::

Yay! It should be fun to have reports to read that were from the same timeframe with some of the same people!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Disney.....i wish! It's October 2, this year... so soon and yet so far away! We're waiting to take our honeymoon next spring, prolly May 2011, and we're going to fly out west, take a nice long train trip, spend a few days in Edmonton, Jasper, Vancouver and Victoria, then fly back. It's not QUITE the same as Disney but it will be really spectacular, so that'll be good. i'm hoping to convince him we should go to Disney for Christmas in 2011.

Yeah, well not long after all that bird stuff, my friend's parents got divorced and his dad took the bird, thank goodness!

Glad everyone loved EE,
And Glad you had no headache afterwards
as always love the updates, keep them coming :goodvibes

I thought I commented on your last post...apparently not :confused3 So...here I go...again? hehe

I cracked up at the pic of Nichole and the kids on the bike :rotfl: Great shots!

I can not stand birds myself, so we have stayed away when in AK! EE is the BEST RIDE EVER! Even though I am still secretly scared of it, I love it all the same. I am so impressed that your kids were brave enough to go on it. How old do you think Abby should be when she tries it? She just tackled BTMR and Dino without a problem at all. My DH wanted to put her on EE, but I told him we should wait for a bit as to not freak her out.

What camera do you use? Your shots are just beautiful! I have a Cannon Powershot right now, but have been eyeing the Rebel.

Great update!!!!! Must have been so fun to be with friends and lots of kids to play with :cloud9:

Ok, all caught up now!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I LOVE THE POLY!!

Yes, I do remember your adult beverage....as I had a couple of sips of it myself! Yum! :thumbsup2

:drinking1:jumping1::drinking:

Sara

Isn't it nice when it all works out for everybody?? :lmao:

I graduated high school in 1992! :rotfl:

Sara

So did I!
Uh-oh, I think we just gave ourselves away! :rotfl2:

Bummer about the shuttle launch - they're always so darn unpredictable. We've discussed going to see one several times but you never know if you're actually going to see it or not. :confused3 We were at Kennedy Space Center in Sept. 08 and saw it on the launching pad though, pretty neat. We kind of saw a launch while at WDW on my bday also in 08. We were exiting Peter Pan and saw everybody just stopped and looking up and to the East, we saw it's trail- it was a nice surprise...to sort of see it, anyway.

I love the pics of all the kids! How fun for them! It's funny how kids can meet and in 5 seconds be bff's. Well, I guess DISfriendships are like that. ;)

I'm going to have to try that Adult Grilled Cheese I keep hearing about...hmmm. I'm already quite familiar with the Dole Whip...let's just say I may have had one this weekend and I may be posting a picture of it on my Dec TR. ;) I also may have had a certain Grey Goose adult beverage that I may also be posting a picture of. :rolleyes1

I know what you mean about Animal Kingdom; I find we sometimes have our most relaxing days there...especially if the weather is nice...because when it's hot there, it is HOT! (and humid!) ugh! (yes, I know I live in Florida, yes, I am a native, no, I don't like the heat or humidity anymore than anyone else does, and no, I am not used to it - I spend the summer indoors with the a/c!!! - and the spring, fall, and winter, except for this winter :lmao:)

Yay for Expedition Everest!! I'm so glad the kids liked it!!:woohoo: It's one of my favorites! Miren hasn't been on it yet, but she's funny about rides sometimes. She does keep asking about it though so I think it's on her radar.

Finally remembered my log in for over here!

I'm only on page 3 so I have osme catching up to do!

Sounds great, Sare! October is a great month to get married (our anniversary is Oct 26th)!

Maybe the bird was part of the reason for the divorce! :confused3

Thanks! Yeah, I usually feel my head knocking a little bit when I ride Everest, but not this day!

Hi Katie! Well, Michael rode it in Nov 2007 and he was 6 (4 months away from turning 7) and Emily just rode it last month and she is turning 7 on Saturday. The only other roller coaster she had been on up to that point had been Thunder Mountain (and not since Oct 2008 when she was 5), so this was big for her! She really loved it!! I didn't want to try Katie on it yet, since she is just 5 and I thought that might be a little too young - she might get scared and never want to ride it again! Honestly, I think she would have been fine, but I just didn't want to chance it this time around....we will be back! :)

Shawn has a Nikon D80 that he brought with him. I was just using our small Olympus camera. The Nikon takes lovely photos and I'm so glad Shawn is willing to lug it through the parks with him!

It was great having friends there! The kids all had a lot of fun with one another!

Animal Kingdom is definitely hotter during the hot months - with all that lush foliage it just really traps the heat! Blech. I think the reason I have grown to love it so much more each time is that its been during cooler months!

Are you going to update your recent trip within your December report? I need to get over there and read! Wish I had a Grey Goose Slushie right now....sigh....
How about "Couger Moms do AK"?
Is that your idea for a trip report title, hon? For mine or Monica's? Sounds like an "adult" film.:rotfl2:
Finally remembered my log in for over here!

LYNN!!! Holy smokes! Glad to see you over here! :grouphug:

Sara

Abby will be 7 in May. I think that is the perfect age!! Sounds like it is right in line with yours. We will be there in Dec, so she will be 7 1/2. Even better :thumbsup2 Do you let yours ride Rockin Roller Coaster? I have never gotten a chance to ride it, so I can not tell if it will be too much for a kid.

Oh Sara you are making me just itch to go to AK!! :goodvibes

Your pictures are all so great... I agree too, there's just something creepy about birds. :duck:

Great TR- you are just moving right along! Thanks for sharing your beautiful family! ;)

Here are some of his pictures that he took on his trek to Asia.

Shawn always takes such great pictures!

We walked right on the ride and got on for our trip back in time!

184-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

I wasn’t sure if either one of us was going to like it! Well, we loved it!!

Oh, I'm so glad! :goodvibes I'm definitely a fan, myself!

Well, I’m not that great of a cliffhanger writer, (hey, I’m no KathyRN137), but I will put your minds at ease…..the verdict on Dinosaur was....

...picture inserted for dramatic pause....

189-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

YES, The girls LOVED it!

Hooray! Glad they didn't think it was too scary! (And thanks for the compliment...its such a shock to suddenly read your own name in a friend's TR!)

We exited the ride and took a gander at our ride picture. Shawn looks like he is watching TV, Michael and Katie look petrified, and Emily is totally not looking! Too funny!

P2070082-1.jpg

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Regardless, by 9:50 we had now been on Triceratop Spin twice, Primeval Whirl once, Dinosaur once and had fastpasses for Everest and fastpasses for another ride on Dinosaur! A great morning! :goodvibes

I'll say! Way to go! :thumbsup2

On our way over to Nemo, a CM had mentioned that this would soon be on Broadway! I haven’t heard anything else about that, but thought it was interesting. This show is so well-done and very beautiful. My only complaint would be that since they have to condense a long movie into a much shorter stage version (and add in musical numbers to boot) it can be confusing if you have never seen the movie.

Hmm. Very interesting rumor! I suppose a longer show on Broadway would allow for more of the original storyline to be told...

P2070084.jpg

(One of my favorite pictures of Michael and Hunter - no silly faces, no crazy faces, just nice smiles. Aren't they cute?)

I was just saying to myself, before I read your comment, "What a great picture of the boys... neither is making a silly face!!"

Hmmm....only 5 fastpasses.....

Well somehow we convinced Dave to take all 4 kids to ride Dinosaur. Yay Dave!

Dave, you da man! :thumbsup2

Emily and Megan were walking together and talking and it was too cute....

208-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

Awww! :cutie: :cutie:

Up next....Cougar Moms???

EXCUSE Me??! Oh, this oughtta be good!

Kathy

I forgot to mention that while we were eating at Pizzafari, Michael's tooth was really bothering him... Poor guy. I gave him some Children's Tylenol and we finished up eating and headed out.

Oh no! I hope it didn't continue to bother him all week! :sad2:

The other girls went with Nichole, Michelle, and Monica to grab the passes. Along the way they also caught some of Divine's performance. Drat - I was really hoping to catch that this trip.

Don't feel too bad, Sara. I've never been able to catch Divine in all my trips to Disney, either! :headache:

The rest of the crew was sitting off to the side in front of the Jungle Trek waiting for us and once we met up we decided to get a group shot of the kids in their matching shirts!

233-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

Wow! Great group shot... and that's hard to do with so many kiddos!

So then some of the kids and husbands took pictures of just us Moms.
In their attempt at impersonating a photopass photographer, they had us pose in our "animal" poses and this shot got dubbed the "Cougar Mom" shot!

238-Disney-02-07-2010-1.jpg

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I really enjoyed strolling through what felt like ancient Asian temple ruins - the Imagineers really outdid themselves at this park; and especially this section of the park.

285-Disney-02-07-2010.jpg

I absolutely agree... you could walk around Asia for hours! The Maharaja Trek is not to be missed!!

Gorgeous tiger photos, Shawn! Can't wait to see how you did with the Safari!
Wonderful updates, Sara! I feel as though I'm right there with the rest of you Cougars! ;)

Kathy

I'm so glad you are ahead of me so I can use your report to remember what we did when. Yay Dave on taking the kids! I love my hubbie. I guess he figured he'd avoid a lawsuit if one of the girls flew out? He'd sit by Emily on dinosaur instead of his own kid. He's so "go with the flow" we should have tried to convince him to take all 10 kids for the day so we could relax!
