A SEVENTH ship coming to DCL!

By the time the new ships come out, the Magic and Wonder will be close to 25 yrs old.
But both have had a major dry dock replacing a lot of the "stuff" on the ship. Chronologically they're going to be "close to 25 years old", but they've had a lot of upgrades in the meantime.

There is some speculation that one of the new ships may be fitted for the Asian market.

With 2021 coming in 3 years (though could be a late launch and closer to 4), I would imagine designs for the new ship(s) will be out within the next 12 months. Curious to see.
They most likely have most of the details worked out. I would expect, if things hold true to the past, that the new ship will float out in late 2020 and be ready for a early (Feb or March) Maiden, with the other 2 following on a similar time frame. I would expect to see the first blocks or steel cutting in Late 18 early 19

I just want them to release those plans to US to see.

How would the fitting be different for the Asian market?

Maybe "fitted" isn't the proper term. Designed? maybe. Different decor styling. Different set ups in the kitchen area. And entertainment venues onboard.

I think fitted works too. I was recently reading about how Feng Shui was used in Hong Kong Disney and I would expect something like that on the ships too. Like the positioning of the beds might be taken into consideration.

Gotcha, that would be interesting to see how different that would be. I wonder though if the North Korea situation would dissuade putting a cruise ship in that region. I don't think people would want to cruise through a nuclear cloud if, God forbid, that ever happen.

If what I've read about Australians is true they are big on vacations and don't mind pulling kids out of school for vacations. I think for DCL to be successful in Australia they would need the families. It seems like from what I've read they could get that there. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone from Australia can correct me.

Yes we Aussies love our vacations. Pulling kids out of school is really no big deal here either. My kids miss 3 weeks last October while we were in the US and will miss 4 next April. We signed 1 firm took all of 2 minutes and that was it!
We'd cruise more often if Disney had a ship here part of the year.
Everyone knows of "Disney" but I'd guess few Aussies are aware there is a Disney cruise line though and few Aussies probably know the difference between DL and WDW. A bit of marketing would be required for a Disney cruise ship to be sustainable here. I have my fingers crossed it happens though :)

If that happens, a cruise might be the best place to be... they wouldn't cruise into the nuclear cloud, but away from it.

Do you think the shows and variety acts will be in English or another language?

I was going to say if a nuclear war starts, I don't think there is really any place you can go that's safe, so... :(

It definitely wouldn't be a good situation, but certain areas of the world have defenses that could help minimize catastrophic damage, the US being one of them. The irony is that the one person on earth that is testing these missiles and threatening annihilation all over the place, is located in a place that could not defend against a nuclear strike.

From what I've read about other cruiselines doing the China market, everything is in Chinese, shows, menus, signage, etc. I think that's part of the "fitting" @PrincessShmoo was talking about.

I am confused. Why would Asians want a cruise around the area they live? Isn't the point to experience different things? If everything is in Chinese, then that eliminates anyone who isn't Chinese. :hyper2:

Don't think so. Both RCI and NCL have ships home-porting in China and almost all the rest of the cruise lines (except DCL) already go to Asia. DCL would be smart to tie-in some of their Asian Disneylands to a cruise. Wherever they go, I'm just hoping that the new ships have some interesting itineraries! It's not the price that's pushing us away from DCL, it's the itineraries (or lack thereof!).

The Asian cruise market is also very dependent on casinos and smoking being allowed throughout the ship, so I am not sure if DCL is willing to fit it that much.

So was the American market before DCL. I think it will be a huge hit for families.

I don't know, I'm just going off what I've read. I know the Norwegian Sky and Bliss are going to be essentially the same ship on the outside, but because the Sky is the ship for China, they are drastically different inside.
