A Sensible Dinner - Pearlieq's Journal

Hi Pearlique.

We all have days when we struggle. We all ess up sometimes. What makes it different is that we keep trying. I think your plan for tonight is awesome. You can do this.

Have a great weekend,
Beth

Morning pearlieq! Just thought I'd stop by and say good morning and I hope you have a good holiday weekend.

BTW- no way I'd pass up homemade chocolate chip cookies either! Social gatherings with food are a killer for me. Maybe since you brought healthy food this time, the next time others might take your cue and there will be more and more healthy options :)

Glad your night went well! I'm sorry but diet or no diet, you should never pass up homemade chocolate chip cookies. LOL

Your muffins sound wonderful.............care to share the recipe??

Sure! I've seen these floating around the WISH boards, but I'll put them here in one place as well.

Angel Food Muffins

--1 box angel food cake mix (make sure it's a 1-step, just add water mix)
--1 20oz can crushed pineapple in juice

Preheat oven to 350. In a glass or metal bowl, fold the cake mix and the can of pineapple, undrained, together. Be fairly gentle while mixing--this is a light and frothy batter. Divide the mixture into 24 well-greased muffin cups and bake for 18-25 minutes. Tops should be set and golden brown. These are 85 calories and 2pts each.

Chocolate Muffins

--1 box chocolate cake mix
--1 15oz can of pumpkin (make sure you buy pure pumpkin, not the pie mix)
--3 eggs (or 3/4 cup egg beaters)
--1/2 cup water

Preheat oven to 350. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir until well combined. This is a rather stiff dough--it almost resembles a thick pudding when it's done. Divide into 24 well-greased muffin cups and bake for 20-25 minutes. These are done when a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean. When made with Egg Beaters, these have 95 calories and 2pts each.

9:45am

--1 chocolate muffin
--1 light 'n fit yogurt cup
--1 light string cheese

I've been up for a while, but not very interested in eating. So far today hasn't been quite as bad as I've feared. Hopefully I can get things done and get on with enjoying my weekend!

12:15am

--1 bean burger meal @ Chili's
--1 angel food muffin

I got to meet up with DH for lunch today, which was really nice. Now I have to try to focus on work again. Not easy, let me tell you!

4:45pm

--1 light 'n fit yogurt cup

7:30pm

--1 chocolate muffin

8:00pm

--1/2 medium cheese pizza

DH and I worked on the rocks tonight and sat out to enjoy the rain. The rocking is going so well--so much easier than the sod stripping. I love the way it looks--our house it light gray and the slate looks very smart next to it. I'm glad we did this. I think we're both ready to turn in pretty soon. I'm meeting my friend at Curves at 8:30 tomorrow.

Hello Pearlieq! :flower: I am back and just caught up with your journal. My you have been busy getting your yard into shape. Make sure you count that as exercise!

London was great and I am beginning to realize how hard it is to eat properly on vacation when you don't at least have a microwave. Sounds like you are doing good at getting back on track after WDW even with the slips here and there.

Congrats on getting down another 6 lbs! :cool1: Keep working at it and you will be packing up a few more clothes soon. Way to go!

Have a great Friday! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Pearlieq

I can't wait to try those muffins! What a great idea. I do a pumpkin spice cake that is similar. Its one spice cake mix, one can pumpkin and a little water. My kids love it and its healthy!

Here's to getting right back on track :wizard:

Happy Memorial Day :)

Sunny

Thanks for the recipes! I had seen a similar one for the chocolate muffins somewhere on the board but hadn't tried it. I have pretty much all of the ingredients, except the egg beaters, at my house so I may make some tonight. I hadn't seen the angel food recipe before and it sounds delicious! I love pineapple so I'm sure I'll love it.

Thanks again!!

Off to Curves!

12:00pm

--2 ww english muffins
--2 1/2 servings egg beaters
--2 slices 2% american cheese
--4 thin slices Canadian Bacon
--6 oz strawberries

It felt so good to eat after I worked out and spent about an hour or so working out front. It's almost done, and it looks really nice! We're going to a party tonight--the husband of one of the women in our bunco group had been deployed for almost 2 years. He's finally home and they're throwing a big party to celebrate. I know there's going to be pizza, but I don't know what else they're serving. I think DH and I are going to eat beforehand and I'm going to try to get through the party without eating. If I need to eat I will stick to fresh fruits/veggies and/or one small serving of something great.

We're going over to my mom's yesterday, and that's always sticky since weight and food are such big issues for us. We're going to cookout, but it should be OK. Mom will make hamburgers, but she always buys the extra lean ground sirloin. I'm going to bring whole wheat buns, pita chips and hummus, and some of the light muffins I made for bunco. I should be able to manage OK.

5:00pm

--2/3 large cucumber
--2 healthy hamburgers
--2 small whole wheat rolls
--1 medium apple
--1/2 can green beans

In the end, the timing is a bit awkward and I think we're going to have to eat at the party. Luckily this is a hearty meal and we shouldn't be too crazy-hungry. I'm only at 1000 calories for the day, so I've got some wiggle room.

7:00pm

--1 square piece cheese pizza
--1 1x1 piece of brownie
--1 1x1 1/2" piece of lemon bar
--5 grape tomatoes

The brownie was incredible! One of the best I've had in a long time. The pizza and lemon bar really weren't worth the calories, but at least I only tried a small piece of each. It was a great feeling at the party--I could look at the buffet of assembled food and feel interested, but not overwhelmingly compelled to dive in. I don't even have words to describe how wonderful that feeling of control is.

8:40pm

--1 small cheeseburger
--1/2 cup cooked carrots

The party was kind of a snooze--people standing around drinking and talking in the backyard, so we cut out pretty early. We stopped for dinner on the way home at the restaurant I like that makes the yummy, reasonably-sized cheeseburger.

9:20pm

--1 angel food muffin

I'm done for the night now, and within goal for the day. Yay!

Sounds like you've been busy, but on plan. You go girl!!

I have NO doubt that tomorrow will be a breeze for you!

Good for you on the 1 lb. gone and the feelings of control. Isn't it great to look at the food at an event and realize that you don't have to eat it just because it is there! Great job! :cool1:

Good morning Pearlieq! A bit :cold: wouldn't you say?

You did an AWESOME job at the party! You deserve to be proud of the control that you have taken back in your life. :cool1: :cool1: It really does feel good to look at a spread of food and think "this is what I want, but that I can skip". I guess if we always remember to go for something that we haven't had in a long time or something new and leave the stuff we can get anytime, then we will all win at the buffet tables.

Have a wonderful Sunday and try to stay warm. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

5/29/05

--9:00am

--1 light 'n fit yogurt cup
--1 serving trail mix

DH and I are both moving kind of slow this morning. We're heading to my mom's around 1pm, but until then I think we're just going to hang out and relax.

11:00am

--2 servings turkey sausage
--1 chocolate muffin
--1 medium peach

I got the munchies again--probably not enough breakfast. Hopefully this should hold me until lunch. I finished the pita chips--hopefully they'll be a nice side dish with some hummus. I plan on having one hamburger, some fruit salad, pita chips and hummus, and some veggies. I brought muffins for dessert--there's 2 for each of us, so that should be it

1:00pm - 6:00pm

--1 cup toffeed pistachios
--3/4 cup grape tomatoes
--18 pita chips
--1/4 cup hummus
--2 5oz ground sirloin hamburgers
--2 slices American cheese
--2 wheat buns
--1 c. baked beans
--1oz potato chips
--1 c fruit salad
--1 angel food muffin
--1 chocolate muffin

So, this didn't quite go according to plan. It's not as hideous as it could have been, but the 1c of pistachios really was a bad move and had tons of calories. I really don't handle myself well with nuts, especially sweet ones. I'm not good at keeping those portions over control. I should also have skipped the beans and the potato chips, but to my credit at least I stopped with the potato chips as soon as I realized I didn't really need them.

I'm going to try to go without eating anymore today. I think I've had enough! I should be able to balance this out over the week.

Good morning Pearlieq! :flower:

Considering that you were at your mom's and there are lots of food issues, I think you did fairly well. It is really hard with emotions sitting right behind the buffet. But, I think you still showed control (maybe not as much as you would have liked), but you didn't keep eating the chips. That is a good thing. Keep up the great work you are doing and remember, next time, it will be easier.

Have a wonderful Memorial Day! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Good Morning: I have been reading your message journals and I have been and done exactly the same thing several times in my life. Unfortunately and fortunately I decided to have gastric bypass surgery on January 19, 2004. Most people think that that was the easy way out, but actually it takes great willpower and a stong mindset to follow it through. My hightest weight was 300 lbs. I am only 5' tall so I pretty much looked like a munchkin. It has been 1 1/2 years and I am now 150lbs. It is a struggle every day to not want and eat what I used to, but my health has much improved and I am glad I took the step I did. :cool1:
I wish you luck on your journey. Just remember to be happy with yourself and not let anyone make you feel like a failure. :cheer2:  :cheer2:  :cheer2:

QUOTE=pearlieq]3/12/05 - Weigh in

352.5 this morning! :cool1: Don't you just love those big first-week losses!

What boggles my mind is that when we came home from Vegas, the scale said 368. I mentioned earlier that most of the gain was from forgetting my medicine for a week, but it still astounds me that you can lose 15.5 pounds of ANY kind of weight, water or otherwise, in one week. :earseek:

I'm counting my WISH weight from 360--that's what I was around when we left for Vegas. That's about 25 pounds down from my all time high. I've still got my personal goals:

350lbs by our May 1st Disney Trip.
300lbs by my birthday - Sept 21st.
260lbs by our March 2006 cruise date.

Goals for the upcoming week:

Add in any kind of exercise--even just 5 minutes per day
Go grocery shopping and stock the house with healthy foods[/QUOTE]

I have to say again that I admire you for recording (owning) the food you are eating. This is so hard, especially if you feel you ate too much. I did this when I was counting points for WW and I think it really helps to see triggers and to be accountable. I read the South Beach Diet book on the weekend and he talks about our food cravings. A lot of food just sets us up to crave other food... I am still looking into it but I think that I am going to go South Beach. Anyway, all that to say it could be an issue with the munchies. Have a great day. ;)

3/30/05

9:30am

--1 light 'n fit with fiber cup
--1 ww English muffin
--1 T light cream cheese

I wasn't really feeling like eating this morning. I managed to stay away from food last night, which was the first step to balancing things out. Today should be an OK day--no parties or anything to worry about. DH pulled his groin while we were laying rock last night. I'm going to insist we take a day off. He's actually still asleep, so I'm not sure what we have on tap for today.

12:00pm

--1 cup whole wheat pasta in garlic cream sauce
--3oz chicken breast
--1/2 cup broccoli
--1 1/4 breadsticks

Olive Garden--we split one entree and it was the perfect size. I really like this chicken dish. I'm going to have to figure out what to do about the bread though, I had to fight really hard to keep that under control. I think next time I'm going to ask the waitress to only bring 2 breadsticks.

3:00pm

--1 serving trail mix
--1/2 medium buttered popcorn
--1 box milk duds.

I went a little crazy at the movie theater, but not too terribly bad. If I had it to do over I would have done the same except for the popcorn. It was good but not really worth it. The Milk Duds, however, were a steal. The whole box, which feels like this huge, decadent serving, was 340 calories. All of the other candy had a minimum of 600 calories--most of them were almost 1000 for the whole bag. Not only did I get a wonderful chocolate/caramel fix, but I got to eat the entire box without having to worry about stopping for portion control. That was pretty cool.

We're going to have a pretty light dinner tonight--possibly sandwiches from Jimmy Johns. I need to stay pretty light to balance out today.

7:00pm

--Chinese buffet

Ugh. I couldn't even begin to record everything I ate, but it wasn't too pretty. I stayed as reasonable as possible and only sampled little bits of things, but it was still a lot of food. It was fun, though. Luckily back to the regular routine tomorrow. And, as is the goal this week, I'm done eating for the day!

9:00pm

--1/2 cheese pizza

This is another one of those moments that it isn't easy being 100% honest here...

I think you're doing GREAT!! You are not binge eating and that alone deserves congratulations! Hang in there, Pearlieq!! :sunny:
