A Sensible Dinner - Pearlieq's Journal

You are so right Pearlie...just one day at a time!! We are our own worst critics so it's so easy to fall into that trap of "I have to do THIS much by x amount of time" and then we just wear ourselves down trrying to force ourselves to meet that goal. And it's only ourselves who are looking down on us. You've come up with an excellent assessment of it...got your head on straight!!

Feeling pretty good again this morning. I'm going to be going to Curves over my lunch break because my goddaugter has a softball game tonight we're going to see. Should be fun. We're going out for dinner after that--my first choices would either be Panera or Chili's. Hopefully one of those will work out.

10:30am

--1 LC Lemon Chicken

I was starvin Marvin by 10:00am today--breakfast didn't stick with me long at all. I'll be going to Curves in an hour or so, sometime after I get home I'm going to have turkey taco rollups, I think. That should have lots of protein and fiber to stick with me. I'll take along a couple of snacks to the game just so I don't get too hungry there.

2:40pm

--1 serving turkey taco mix
--2 low carb tortillas
--1/3 cucumber

Back from Curves. It was a good workout, but nowhere near as much fun as when my friends are there. I have to sit through one meeting before I can leave for the game--I packed peanuts & raisins to eat at the game tonight. Hopefully they'll hold me if I need them.

6:15pm

--1/2 oz peanuts
--1/8 cup raisins

I was supposed to get twice this but my little godson helped himself. Ignatz...

7:30pm

--1 1/2 cups chicken with broccoli
--1/2 cup white rice
--1/4 cup fried rice
--1 chicken satay
--1 pot sticker
--1 almond cookie
--1 fortune cookie

We went out for Chinese afterwards. It was a nice time and I feel satisfied.

Just keep going. I know your frustration with wanting to get done with this and be the person you know you can. I've been on this journey, ups, downs, for almost 2.5 years and from start day I really am down only about 27 lbs in 28 months. But, I have to remember I AM down that much.

Look at the small wins....you went to curves, you cleaned out the binge foods. Everything will happen in it's time.

Panera or Chili's both sound Wonderful!

Have a great day!

Hi Pearlieq!

Hang in there! Remember to take each day one step at a time and you will get back OP in no time at all! :cheer2:

You CAN do it pearlieq!!! :cheer2:

Slow and steady wins the race they say. Good for you in getting rid of the trigger foods. I am working on eating more whole foods and fruits and veggies. Just being healthy!!! Congrats on the good blood work. That is so important and a real important victory.

--1 light string cheese
--1 apple

I got woken up at 8:15 today (which isn't so bad, I was mostly awake, just kind of lounging) by the wife of a guy my husband works with. We've hung out with them a few times, and she's OK, just not really my type. She's a much more girly girl than I am, and we don't share too many of the same interests. I invited her to join one of our Bunco leagues and she accepted, let me reserve a spot for her, then kind of blew it off, without even a phone call. I haven't heard from her in a couple of months.

Anyway, I pick up the phone, and it's her inviting us to a Pampered Chef "party" she's throwing. Anyone who knows me knows how irritated I get at these "parties". Our neighborhood is saturated with them and it feels like a manipulation of women's friendships for a cash grab. The way I figure it, a party is when you invite me over for the pleasure of my company. If I have to bring my checkbook it's a sales meeting and should be labled as such. Instead you're made to feel as if it's a social gathering and that you're not a good friend if you don't go. And, of course, if you go you have to buy something, no matter how overpriced and useless it it. Sorry about the rant but these things really bug me! At least I told her I'd have to check with DH--hopefully I can find a way out of it!

12:30pm

--1 LC lemon chicken
--1/2 cup peas

I really like this lemon chicken meal. It's supposedly whole grain, though it doesn't have much fiber. I really enjoy the lemon glaze. It's a tough day at work today--I can't wait until I'm done with this. Lay me off already!!! I'm going to Chili's tonight with one of my friends. I can't wait--I've been wanting a bean burger for days!

4:00pm

--1 cup trail mix

I made my own blend of peanuts, raisins, and multi-grain cheerios that's pretty good, and under 200 calories a serving. I like it.

7:30pm

--1 Guiltless Grill bean burger meal
--1/2 molten chocolate cake (just the cake part, only one small taste of the ice cream)

Yummy! We had plenty of neighborhood drama to discuss, so it was fun.

That sounds SO like me!! I feel the same way. After literally years of telling people NO, they've finally given up asking me. YEAH!!!! :cheer2:

Keep it up, it will get better. I won't have 'parties' like that and I won't go to them. I have a friend who sells weekenders clothing and she drove me nuts for about 2 years then finally gave up. Talk about overpriced!

Have a great day! Almost Friday!!

5/20/05

Haven't really been motivated to eat yet, but I guess I'd better get something...

10:00am

--1 Egg McMuffin
--1 Fruit & Yogurt parfait

A bit of a treat, but it was yummy and it's finally FRIDAY!!!

3:00pm

--1 LC lemon chicken (the last one... :guilty: )
--1/2 cup peas
--1 apple

This work day is crazy, but I keep hoping it's at least going to be done soon! DH is working all weekend, so I'm going to putter around the house and try to get the planting done. We might go over to my mom's on Sunday--we'll see what state DH is in.

4:00pm

--1 bag smart pop kettle corn
--1 T butter

A nice crunchy snack for my crazy-stressful workday! I'm going to have to miss Curves tonight, which I'm a little bummed about, but it should be OK. I'm still going tomorrow morning and I'll be planting afterwards, so I should get plenty of exercise!

7:30pm

--2 beef hot dogs with ketchup, tomato, and pickle

Yummy Portillo's! I knew I wanted some kind of fast food tonight--DH is working and I wanted a treat for dinner. This turned out to be the most reasonable option. I considered Arby's, McD's, Burger King, and Wendy's but didn't trust myself to get out of any of those satisfied for under 1,000 calories. I still have problems ordering just one sandwich. It was easy enough just to skirt the issue and go to Portillo's where I could enjoy a couple of yummy hot dogs without being temped to order fries (like I would at Arby's) or too much food.

Hi woman,

You are doing great. It is so good to find meals that you enjoy. I am the same as you about the pampered chef kind of parties. I hate them.

Keep up the great work, and enjoy your weekend.
Beth

Enjoy the weekend Pearliq and if there's any cool weather in Chicago, send it my way. It's 93 here and w/o refrigerated air, that's HOT!!! Especially for May!!

5/21/05 - Weigh In

324.0 - Down 5 pounds from last week.

I finally feel like I'm "back" but it's been the longest 2 weeks of my life. I've really got to figure out how I'm going to handle trips in the future, but for now I'm just happy to be back in the groove.

I've got a new clippie this week, which is always fun. It's amazing how excited you can get over a little computer image!

Daily Averages:

Total Calories: 2483
Total Fat: 83g
Total Carbs: 322g
Total Fiber: 37g
Total Protein: 127g
Total Calories Burned: 3598
Days of Exercise: 4

Goals for next week:

1.) Stay OP, recognizing that there is room from treats while being OP but not room for losing control.
2.) Keep fiber and protein at goal levels.
3.) Relax a little--the world will not end if I eat 2200 calories a day and only lose 3 pounds instead of eating 1700 calories a day and losing 5 pounds. This is not a race.
4.) Avoid eating out just for the sake of going out--pick restaurants that have good options for me. It's no fun to be at a restaurant where all you want is cheese sticks and a double cheeseburger and trying to scour the menu for grilled chicken and steamed veggies. I'd rather stay home or go to Panera or something.
5.) Make a point to get up every hour or so during the day and do something, even if it's just a couple of laps around the house.

5/21/05

8:45am

--1 serving homemade trail mix.

It's been a rough morning already. During the stress/craziness of yesterday I developed what I thought was just a crick in my neck. Unfortunately it's gotten worse and it stayed with me all night, so I didn't sleep well. It still hurts pretty bad now. I finally took some Advil, I hope it kicks in soon. I missed Curves this morning because I was in pain and exhausted. Now I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, I want to do with myself today. I feel bad about missing Curves, but maybe I'll still try to get the planting done.

1:15pm

--1 strawberry poppyseed chicken sandwich
--1 4" slice sourdough bread.

OK, tiny pet peeve, but why do they give you twice as much bread at Panera as they're supposed to? Not that it's a huge deal, but that peice of bread is 240 calories! I just can't bring myself to throw it away, so I enjoy it and just count the calories, but it would make life easier if they actually gave you the stated 2"/2oz slice of bread!

Off to the mall to do some walking. DH won't be home for a few hours and the mall just makes me kind of happy. I can't explain why, and I don't usually buy much, but strolling around is just fun.

6:15pm

--1/2 low carb bagel
--1 T light cream cheese
--1/4 cup sorbet

I got a little snacky--I'm going to hold out for dinner, though. Pizza tonight! I had fun at the mall--I found this gorgeous wine colored skirt at Marshall Fields that will be perfect for Christmas. It's a size 20, but I can squeeze into it now, which means it ought to feel pretty good by then. The best part was it was on the clearance rack for $13! I also picked up a couple of bras at Lane Bryant--as I get older gravity is beginning to assert itself, so I think it's time to make the changeover to underwires. I like how they keep everything high and perky, but it's pretty uncomfortable! Hope I get used to it soon.

7:00pm

--3 pieces medium cheeseburger pizza
--4 pieces medium cheese pizza
--1 Kozy Shack chocolate pudding
--1/2 cup chocolate whipped cream
--1/2 cup peach sorbet

Well I did have fun tonight, didn't I? Still, it didn't turn out too bad because I had a pretty light day.

Congratulations on losing another 6 pounds! You are doing so great. :cheer2:  Such an inspiration!

I hope that you feel better today. I don't think Curves would have been much fun with you not feeling well. Don't feel bad about missing....you'll be able to go again soon. Right now, take care of yourself!

Again, hope you feel better soon! :wizard:

Congratulations on your 6 pound loss, pearlieq! That is wonderful! You are doing great! Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

Wow! Congratulations on your awesome loss! You're doing great!

Congrats on your loss!!!

Hey, what do you put in your homemade trail mix? I'm thinking of making my own since I can never find just the right combination in the store.

5/22/05

9:00am

--2 pieces cheese pizza (I swear that's it!)
--2 servings light fruit juice

12:45pm

--1 1/2 cups whole wheat pasta in garlic cream sauce
--6 oz skinless chicken breast
--1/2 cup cooked broccoli
--1 soft breadstick

Olive Garden. I love the fact that they have whole wheat linguini you can substitute for the pasta in any entree. The chicken came with some kind of skin/breading, so it took me a while to get rid of it, but the dish was still very tasty. I skipped the soup/salad--I like them OK but they're not my favorites so I figured I'd just save the calories. I ate the garlicy tops off of two breadsticks--I love garlic! It was a very nice lunch.

5:30pm

DH and I went to pick up some things for the house--we're going to edge the whole house in gray slate and plant some yews in the front. I stripped the sod from the whole side of the house and got started on the other side. As DH said, I'm an animal!

8:00pm

--1 country club, no mayo
--1/2 lb strawberries
--1/3 large cucumber

Yummy dinner! I think it's going to take me a while to eat all of this, but it's tasty! Update: I actually wound up giving half of my sandwich to DH--I was just too full to finish it.

10:30pm

--1 McD's cheeseburger
--1/3 order small fries
--1 small ice cream cone

McD's run. I am irrationally proud of myself. Once upon a time, I could have easily put away a two cheeseburger meal with a sugar soda, nuggets or a chicken sandwich, AND the ice cream and possibly and pie or cookies. I would have to be in a pretty bad place to do that now. As it was I thoroughly enjoyed my treat and it easily fit in to my limits for the day. I'm so happy.

Thanks!

I've been tinkering with the trail mix a lot. The latest iteration is just Multi-grain Cheerios, peanuts, and raisins. It has that "salty-sweet" taste I love so much, plus good crunch from the Cheerios!
