A quick Hello from Perth

Just to say hi to all the rugby fans out there.

Had a great night out last night after Englands games vs the South Africans. I had to stay up until 3.30 in a desperate attempt to find more "Boks" that I hadn't managed to "commiserate" on their fine performance and unfortunate loss . It did seem that unfortunately a lot of them had chosen to go to bed early and there were a lot more English about than South Africans. Still I did manage to find quite a few of them .

I'm feeling a bit "tired and emotional" this afternoon (this morning didn't exist IMHO) but I think I'll be back up in time for the next game in Melbourne.

I don't know much about rugby although DH and the boys were glued to it but it's good to know we won what was billed as The Match!

Moved on to Melbourne now, we play Samoa on Saturday. A bit worrying as it's now the whole of Samoa, seeing as it only took the western part of Samoa to beat the Welsh a couple of world cups ago
After that it's up to Brisbane for a couple of games ( and a one week PADI scuba dive course on the Great Barrier Reef ) then on to Sydney hopefully to win the tournement.

How long did the flight take from Perth to Melbourne? You really will have taken in quite lot of Australia by the end of the tournament!!

Have a great time on the scuba diving course - I'm pretty sure you will!!

Thanks Tim for the correction, I collected my ticket for the game on SUNDAY from the stadium ( and oh what a stadium !!!) . It is a truly outstanding ground and doesn't look like there is a bad seat in the house ( unlike Subiaco in Perth). I understand the desire to get the game out to the non rugby areas and to share the economic spoils about, but rugby is not a great spectator sport at the Aussie football grounds as you're such a long way from the action. I don't know who was designating the seats as catagory a,b or c but they obviously had no idea of the game. You were paying top $$ for tickets at ground level where your view was blocked by advertising hoards on the side of the pitch "nearest" to you ( still miles away) and you couldn't see the markings on the other side of the pitch because the grounds have a camber on them like lawn bowls. Still Perth is a great city and I had a fantastic time there. Loads of English supporters there some in groups but a lot of "sad loners" like me, that couldn't find someone else mad enough to take all the time off work to go with them , so plenty of drinking buddies

Flight was about 3 1/2 hours Shirley. I'd definately say to anyone coming to Aussie take the time to visit Perth, it's very pretty and has lots to see and do there. It's such a huge area (Western Australia) that if you're into scenery and wildlife you could spend a whole holiday there and not even scratch the surface. For me it's a definate return destination, next time I'll rent a car for at least some of the time and travel about more. 10 days in Perth itself was no problems without a car, as it has a great public transport system and I always think it's a good idea to take the "tourist" tours early on to get an idea of what there is to do (you usually are able to pick up some history of an area from the guides as well which is helpful) , but in order to get to see a few of the things off the beaten track or at your leisure you need to drive.

Not so keen on Melbourne to be honest, maybe it's living in a big city myself, but I'd rather get out into the country, see scenic beauty and wildlife as opposed to throngs of people and skyscrapers.
