Why do you feel the need to compare Mexicans to pooping birds? Why not just come out with it and say you don't like them and don't think they should get the same stuff Americans do?

What about all of the American citizens who do not work and collect from the government and keep having children so they don't have to work and can keep collecting. The illegal immigrants that you are talking about do all the work that American citizens do not want to do.

As far as the schooling goes I live in an area where there are a lot if illegal immigrants and a lot of their children go to the school my children go to which happens to be an "A" school.

I wish there was as much outrage over companies like Haliburton getting billions in tax money and then moving their company out of the country as there is outrage over someone coming here to scrub toilets and actually enrolling their children in school while they're here.

Don't you know? There are a ton of illegal Polish and Russian here in Chicago that are doing construction without pulling permits. They don't pay taxes and ship the money back to the country they're from. It's unsafe, and they're taking away a lot of work from citizens who are now jobless. But we just want the Mexicans rounded up. The ones picking the veggies for the low wages. Because anyone who's against illegal immigration is a racist.

You know that alot of americans ( and canadians ) lost theirs jobs too to people whould would do the job cheaper , in unsafe and demeaning environmment? And this totally legally ? Yess , all the oursoucing of our good bought at Walmart , Target , Disney stores etc: We want everything cheap , so our good paying jobs are going or to the illegal immigrants , or to poor countries with terrible labor laws... In my eyes it is the same fight. You should see the subsidies Walmart ( the richest , biggest retailler in the world) receives from the governement , and maybe we would not be so arsh about people trying to better their life !

I don't really know about the rest of the country, but sure, most of the foreigners you see around here tend to be Hispanic.

I don't really care where they come from. I don't want illegals-- however well-intentioned-- mooching off my taxes.

This has absolutely nothing to do with my post. I'm talking about people doing trade work (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc) that are good paying jobs that a lot of people would love to have in this country. These are being done by Illegals. The unsafe part is the illegals don't pull permits so building inspectors don't look at the work plus the customers don't know that when they turn around to sell the house they have to get it up to code.

There are illegal doctors offices in the city, etc staffed by illegals who are doing medical work. There is a whole underground network. To say these people are all scrubbing toilets or picking crops that no one in this country will do is either a bold face lie, or ignoring reality. I see these people every day. I know people who do work here driving around in vans picking up other illegals to do tax free construction work.

*** Disclaimer: This is NOT directed to the OP, since I know they didn't write this.***

My issue is this: are people so incensed at illegal immigration that they are attacking language? What on earth is so wrong with having bilingual packaging that the author made an effort to mention it specifically? I have lived in a province my whole life that is the only officially bilingual one in Canada. I have grown up with bilingual packaging, and it hasn't harmed me in the least. In fact, while many of my friends were happy, overjoyed actually, to be making $11/hr in a summer job, I was earning $20+/hr because I am bilingual (BTW, my first language is English. I am honored to have been able to learn the French language continuously for 20+ years now). There are so many advantages to being bilingual other than the money.

Now, I admit that the bilingual situation is not completely rosy where I live. There is animosity because people think that people who speak one language get better schools, health care, etc. There are opinions that people who speak that language are trying to "take over", and there are fears that anyone who doesn't speak that language can't get a "good" job. There was even a political party in power here back in the late 1980s/early 90s whose job it was to appeal the official languages act of 1969 that proclaimed English and French official languages of business in the province.

I realize that my perception of the situation might be a bit skewed because I am Canadian, and we aren't (yet) experiencing the problems at the magnitude that you folks are down there. Due to the geographical situation, we probably never will. If I were in your situation, I would be ticked beyond belief that I had to pay God knows how much for health care, and watch my father die of cancer because we can't afford treatment, but some person who swam/floated/hid away in a crate and just snuck into the country is automatically given something that I have to work very hard for.

So, those are my comments in a nutshell. I'm not saying that people don't have the right to be angry. I'm on board with you in the fight against illegal immigration; there was a story in a Canadian national newspaper not long ago about how there are US brokers who collect money from illegal immigrants, help them fill out refugee forms, and drive them to the US/Canadian border to apply for refugee status. I'm totally against that. What I am ALSO against is a general backlash against people who speak a certain language and may be of a certain culture.

I'd better stop there...I could go on for hours...!

But it does have to do with wanting to pay less for jobs that are done. Illegal immigrants do these job for less than actual american or canadian citizen. Wheter is an employer wanting to pay less or us , custumer , it all boils down to this.

You say that your taxes pay for these people who free load... It is allright to dont like this. But what I personnaly find more terrible is when a rich corporation like Walmart is freeloading on governement subsidies ( our taxes) when it is only to better there allready very very fat wallet. I personnaly feel better to know that part of my taxes go to actually help people eat , go to school and be healthy. Is illegal immigration a big problem ? Certainly , but a bit of perspective is important. If we are willing to ask your governemnt to take action and cut the illegal from these services , we should ask them to stop subsidising the richest as well
