Those who have reached goal weight after losing 50 or more pounds, did you have excess skin? I have 20 some lbs to go & my tummy is so flabby, but I know the muscle under it isn't as flabby. I just have this terrible fear of having excess skin.

Hi Magical Mom,

First off, congratulations on your weight loss so far. I know this is not the magical answer because excess skin is difficult to change. I have not lost all the weight I want. But I'll add and answer regardless. Flax seeds make a difference in skin's thickness and elasticity. You grind them in a coffee grinder. I take a 1/4 cup a day spread out. I took them for rosacea and PMS and noticed this added benefit! (1/4 cup is 245 calories if you are someone who counts...I don't but I was suprised to read the label).

Also, I noticed your love of crushed ice moniker. Do you know that wanting ice is a sign of anemia? Ignore me if you already know.

Once again, congratulations!!!! And hopefully someone will chime in for you.

I'm going to answer both questions posted. Craving ice is technically termed pica and can be a symptom of anemia. People with anemia might crave other non-food items such as clay or dirt. I remember as a very young child eating small pieces of plastic or crayons. In my case, it was a bad habit, and not a sign of anemia, because I wasn't. I like ice now, but, I know I am not anemic, and have never been my entire adult life. Amazing, but true. My last Hb level was 13.4, which is high normal.

As far as the loose skin is concerned, at this point I am about 15 lbs away from my goal. I have some mildly lose skin, and when I was at about 160 lbs (about 36 lbs wt loss), it was worse than it is now. I was very concerned at that point. But, as I continue to lose weight, the subcutaneous fat is decreasing, and the overlying skin is tightening up nicely. The exception is my breasts, which is the only place I have stretch marks/scars. They are making me crazy, but, I am dealing with it by wearing a tight fitting sports bra to sleep. It seems to have helped. I had even thought about using a wide Ace wrap to apply compression. Of course, I wear just normal bras during the day, so as to look normal in my clothing. I will give it time, and consider a breast lift if necessary.

Crush ice addiction is a form of pica (sympton of anemia). So is craving tires, dirt, deodorant, tree bark, etc.

My ferritin level was down to 3 in the spring but I am now on iron tablets twice a day & my H&H & ferritin are back up to normal.

Sorry for that. I should have wrote can be. Sorry.

Also, I'm no medical expert but apparently some women with "low normal" readings need intervention as well.
