A Question About Multiple Contracts

Ok, so I need to understand how something works. Our first (right now our only) contract was for 100 points at the Polynesian. I think we need to add another. (My DH might not believe that as strongly as I do.😚). The Poly contract was a resell contract. Let’s say I now buy a small CC contract direct from Disney. Those points should unrestricted, right? Bu I could combine both for reservations (at the 7 month mark) at any resort - except new resorts with restrictions? Am I understanding that correctly?

No, you cannot combine these points for a single reservation.

Best case, you can make one reservation for X days, and then use the second contract to make a reservation for the days that follow. However, you cannot combine these into one reservation. This means that you run the risk of having to change rooms, even if it's at the same room type at the same resort.

After making both reservations, I have called Member Services to have them put in a note that I want to keep the same room. It has worked but they also have emphasized to me that it's not guaranteed.

Yes, at 7 months your points could all be used at non-restricted resorts, e.g., everywhere but RIV for now.

I assume you purchased Poly after January 2019? If so, then you can only combine CCV and Poly at 7 months for all resorts except RIV and future ones.

However, you can use all the direct points at all resorts at 7 months including RIV.

This is only needed if contracts are different memberships. That means different UY, or different owners.

Contracts in the same membership can be used together for single reservations with no issues, if the contracts are the same resort, you can use all at 11 mo and different resorts at 7 months.

Direct points would be unrestricted and you would be able to use them at any resort at 7 months, including RIV and any new resorts.

If the direct points are the same UY and titled the same as the resale points, then they can be combined to be used at 7 months to book any resort with the exception of RIV and any new resorts.

Yes but the OP has 100 points at the Poly and asked about adding a small contract at CCV.

At 7 months the Poly points can be combined with the CCV points to book a reservation at any current DVC resort except RIV. Before 7 months they can’t be combined. As long as both contracts are the same UY and titled the same, they’ll be in one membership.

Correct but at 7 months all points in a membership can be used together. Doesn’t matter how many contracts you have.

The only restriction will be booking RIV or future resorts. Only the direct points will be good.

Other than that, Poly and CCV points can be used together in one reservation at 7 months since OP is adding on to the same membership.

Just to be clear, the OP did not state they are adding to the same Use Year (i.e. membership).

Others are assuming the OP is. I assumed the OP is not.

I think this is why we are interpreting the OP’s original post differently.

Definitely get the same use year, but if you buy direct, they will “make” you buy the same UY anyway. All dvc points are combinable at 7 months but only direct points will be able to book RIV. If you have different memberships (different use years), you could still transfer points between memberships. But I do not have any personal experience with that, and it sounds like a real PITA frankly. CC is pretty expensive direct btw, but I do love the resort.

Except you can’t add on a small contract direct unless it’s an add on to the same membership, which is what the OP wants

A different UY or membership requires 150. But, you are correct that if anyone wants to add on a new membership, then you can’t combine points.
